If you don't want to install anything to your computer, or you're using a shared computer, you can use tailOS. It's designed for the average person to be able to use it. It doesn't install anything to the computer's hard drive, and it's resistant against malware. All you need is an old USB thumb drive (or buy one from the dollarstore). Tails only requires a few gigs to run, so you likely have some old, useless USB in the back of a drawer somewhere.
- Okay, go to https://tails.boum.org It's okay if it redirects you to https://tails.net/home/index.en.html (they are in the process of switching over).
- Scroll down and select to "Get TailsOS." The download link will be under that heading.
- FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE SCREEN. Seriously... there are even pictures if you jamble up words.
If you want your drive to have more than one function, you can use ventoy instead of an etcher program to put the .iso on the drive, but that involves a few more steps (it's still easy, as even THIO JOE on YouTube has a kindergarten level tutorial on ventoy).
Once you've flashed the drive (the instructions are on the screen - WITH PICTURES, so you shouldn't fuck it up), you use it by turning off your computer, plugging in the stick, and turning on the computer.
IF your computer's boot order is to read your hard drive first instead of reading USB sticks first (I'm not going to tell you how to change that, as you MIGHT actually break your computer while fucking with the BIOS without knowing WTF you're doing), you can load it once your computer starts up:
If you have a Mac... you'll have to poke around as I've never used one so I can't give step by step instructions off the top of my head, but it can't be that hard.
If you have Linux... you already know how to do all of this shit, so please comment and correct any errors I may have accidentally made in writing this out
If you have Windows, you can click the Window icon in the bottom left corner. Then "Settings" (the gear) from the list on the left.
- Select "Update & Security" near the bottom middle of the screen.
- Select "Recovery" from the list on the left of the screen.
- At the bottom of the screen, find "Advanced Startup" and click "Restart Now".
- The screen will go blue, and select "Use a device".
- At the next blue screen, select "EFI USB Device"
The computer will reboot into tails (or ventoy will load and you select tails from the list of .iso files you have on the drive). To go back to Windows, reset or turn your computer off and on again.
Seriously, the people who push the farms off of the clearnet are persistent and will keep trying. Tails is good if you don't really know what you're doing with computers, and you want something that doesn't need to be installed on your computer. It has keepassXC to store passwords, persistent storage, etc. Save this in there: kiwifarmsaaf4t2h7gc3dfc5ojhmqruw2nit3uejrpiagrxeuxiyxcyd.onion
And let's be real: the club ain't as much fun if all of your friends are stuck waiting outside with the bouncer.
