To me, it’s just more evidence that she’s perpetually mentally stuck in middle school. She’s always talking about haydurz and boooleeen and those are middle school concepts. When you become an adult, you have the means to address it. Not whine about it, but take it for what it is and move the fuck on.

I think she's also heard it all a million times before, so it doesn't hit home. She's probably been told she'll get diabetes and have a heart attack since she was 16. And, in her mind, because it hasn't happened (yet), it means she can ignore it the next time.

You see this when something new pops up, and she does seem scared by it. The first time she finds out she could have a blood clot, she got mad because people were scaring her by saying it. Then she goes to the doctor, and because it wasn't a clot, that fear is immediately cast aside forever. Or sleep apnea. That was scary, but her incredible power of denial managed to suppress the fear within a few days, and now sleep apnea/sitting up when she sleeps isn't an issue.

It's probably a lot more complicated than this, and I definitely agree she lacks the cognition to realise what a big fucking deal eg. diabetes can be. The denial is fascinating to see in action.

It’s like when you drive a piece of shite car and every single day you think, “I need to get a new car, this one is a piece of shite and it’s going to give out suddenly one of these days.” But that didn’t happen yesterday or the day before, so you put it off and keep driving. And every day you drive it and nothing happens, other than the door sticking a little now, and the rust creeping up the side and the seat doesn’t adjust any more and the speakers are rubbish after a while and the fabric on the ceiling starts to droop but it RUNS and you don’t want to think about the enormous cost of fixing it up or replacing it.

Then one day you’re driving in four lanes of traffic and the engine gives out and you swerve to get off the road to safety and you end up slamming into a lorry in your blind spot and the very first thing you think as it happens is “FUCK FUCK FUCK WHY DIDN’T I REPLACE THIS GODDAMN PIECE OF FUCK CAR.”

Except your body is not a car and you can’t survive it giving out. So I guess I don’t know what AL is thinking.

I do wonder if a lot of her behaviors have been learned from spending many years in the system as a foster kid. She probably learned to manipulate her social workers and teachers from a very young age; how to say the right things to please the adults in her life, or get them off her back, or ingratiate herself into a situation. I don't think she reads other people particularly well because she has no interest in anything or anyone other than herself.

I particularly see how she probably learned to manipulate social workers with her whole pattern of "disclosure". Not only does she want to deflect criticism, she wants to be rewarded for being "brave" enough to share.

People getting annoyed that you won't take responsibility for anything? "Oh, I was raped."
Anyone making you uncomfortable because they appear to be withdrawing unconditional support and criticizing your behavior? "My so-called family stopped talking to me just because I'm unattractive."

It's strategic victimhood.

This is something I really don't get even though the way you explained it is good. Watching her videos she always acts like she is a dainty little flower, pretending as though any amount of food is enough to fill her gargantuan stomach and she gets "soooo so full!!!" from eating half a plate of shrimp and then as soon as the camera's off she probably shovels the rest down her gullet. Best example is Making her girlfriend quit her actual job to be her food fetcher by probably acting pouty and "lonely" when she gets home from work and casually mentioning how she feels depressed when the house is so quiet. That's most of her manipulation, some of her lies are kind of sort of the truth because she TECHNICALLY didn't outright say/do XY or Z, she just manipulated things to her advantage. It's borderline abusive, but considering how she acted when Becky ate some of her cereal she probably does cross the line into abuse.... she kind of knew what she was doing, but it's not like that type of thing works on adults who make their own choices and do what they need to do without worrying what everyone else thinks.

Amber is the bully in middle school, Becky is the shy pushover "friend" she keeps around as a punching bag.

Hell, I'd say usually people who are less intelligent tend to be more manipulative. It comes naturally. They don't plan it, they just want to get what they want but without having to directly ask or cause any conflict. People like this want everyone to change their behavior so they can feel flattered, and they never consider another person's wants or needs.

Someone like Amber, slower people, or adolescents can only really manipulate people with the same mental capacity. Someone more intelligent can manipulate a wider range of people and outsiders might not even see it happening.
