You will need to remember that ALL pit-bull type dogs are descendants of bull-and-dog fighting dogs. They were bred to kill and love fighting and have a high pain tolerance. Some of these factors may have been weakened once they weren't specifically selected for those exact traits, but that kill instinct is too dangerous to play russian roulette with in any pitbull breed. Therefor they are inherently more likely to attack than even a rottweiler. Rotts will attack a human because they perceive a threat, not for fun/ hairtrigger like a pitbull. Rotts were bred specifically for livestock and cart pulling. They were never bred for fighting. Pitbulls were only ever bred for fighting up until very recently. Those deviations in genetics are not old enough to consider any pitbull safe.

I don't see this as a valid reason to treat these breeds any differently than others when gathering statistics. But every single one of these studies does. To the point where there could be a video of a dogo argentino attacking someone, and all you'll see in the comments are people talking about how pitbulls should be banned. I think these inflated sensationalist statistics have actually led to a feedback loop where these dogs get bad reputations, and so unreputable people get them, resulting in more unreputable outcomes. There is a drug dealer who lives near me who owns two of them. I'm certain he got them on reputation more than anything else.

We had a pitbull/lab mix. She was one of the sweetest most cudly dogs I've ever had. However twice she attacked another dog and literally went insane. They all have it deep within them.

Also, regarding the laws, the UK has had breed-specific bans since 1991 that ban four specific breeds; the Japanese Tosa, the Dogo Argentino, the Fila Brasilero, and the Pit Bull Terrier. You've probably never heard of the first three, and the reason why breeds like the "American Bully" even exist in the first place is to get around shitbull bans, so this new change is more just enforcing the original law than adding anything new.

This means that whether a dog is prohibited under the Act will depend on a judgement about its physical characteristics, and whether they match the description of a prohibited "type".

I understand a lot of the hate Pitbulls get, and I think the majority of the frustration is directed at the people who bred them into these insane killmonsters and the ones who blindly defend them online. A lot of that seems to appear as, or convert itself into, hatred of the actual dog. At the end of the day it's just an animal so I can't bring myself to share those feelings.

I definitely have full disdain for the dogfighters and literal scum who bred these things specifically to fight or kill other animals and have very little respect for the people who relentlessly defend them online despite their clear and present unpredictable hostility and capability of causing harm and serious injuries or even death. Those people always seem to be a certain "type", too, so they make themselves even more unlikable. They are inauthentic people nearly 100% of the time.

There's a reason we don't keep pet hippos or pet grizzly bears or pet king cobras outside of special and highly controlled scenarios. as an aside I personally do not agree with zoos or other captivity options like that as in an ideal world I'd obviously prefer animals to just be free. I would say to others to just try their best not to hate the dog itself. Place those feelings where they belong - on the ones who have the ability to know better.

I get the stereotype and I think it is warranted in most cases. I just can't bring myself to fully get onboard with this because the best dog I ever had was a pitbull/dobermann mix. He was so loveable, intelligent, and very loyal to the family. He would drag his chain to me when he wanted to go for a walk, when my niece was a baby he would grab the walker with his teeth and drag her around the house. He also for whatever reason fucking hated niggers, like really hated them. He was the most mild mannered dog I have ever seen but when a nigger would walk by my car or if my black friend came over to the house, he would go nuts.

Dogo Argentino descended directly from the pitbull. People can call it a separate breed but it is a larger pitbull that is white. You can mix a bunch of bullshit into your breed (the original dude did but it's still a pitbull... Just a mutt of a pitbull. You could enter a large non-argentino pitbull into an argentino competition and it would skirt by without issue if not for paperwork lmao. A pitbull mix in the shelters is still a pitbull because of the headshape and body shape. Headshape is specifically tied to a dog's neurological function.

All pitbulls, including argentinos, are more dangerous due to their brain than a normal dog. It doesn't matter what mutt breed they are (eg. argentino). They're ALL susceptible to unpredictable violence.
