An update to dislikes on YouTube

If the problem was mass dislikes on COVID videos from mainstream news sources, they could just disable voting on those.
If someone destroys evidence, then during the trial the jury is told to assume the evidence they destroyed was the most heinous shit imaginable. In much the same way, when someone disables ratings on a video people naturally assume the worst. If you want to make videos appear better than they are then immediately making everyone assume the worst isn't how you do it. Nuking everyone's dislike bar is how you do it. Of course people will still assume the worst on Joe Biden and COVID videos, but now when they want to hide dislikes there isn't the big red flashing "ASSUME THE WORST WITH THIS VIDEO SPECIFICALLY" neon sign that is disabling ratings.

Is this the eventual fate of all monopolies? You've got a solid platform damn near everyone is using... and you can't help but change things in stupid ways until you lose your user base?
Yes, at least in finance capitalism* where companies are ultimately controlled by rich stockholders. If a company maintains a comfortable monopoly their stock prices won't increase and the stockholders won't make any money, so companies are constantly driven to find ways to be more profitable. The clueless stockholder suits don't care about the quality of the product, they care about wringing every last drop of profit from the company, and they're willing to gamble on potentially destroying a company and losing its monopoly because if they don't then their stocks are basically just big inert bundles of cash rather than an appreciating investment they can make money from.

* Before some retard calls me a commie, there are lots of different types of capitalism, you don't have to support finance capitalism just because you don't want a socialist welfare state. There are plenty of capitalist models that aren't just billionaire welfare pyramid schemes where every good product you like will eventually crumble to shit in the endless pursuit of maximum profit. Wake up and stop simping for Jeff Bezos.

Youtube's user base isn't going anywhere. You can't make two billion people move for shit. It doesn't matter what youtube does, because you don't follow youtube, you follow a channel on youtube. That channel isn't leaving yt because that's where all the viewers are. The viewers aren't leaving because that's where all the channels are. Yt can do whatever the hell it wants.

Even if a handful of channels make alternative accounts on other platforms, or a few people leave yt altogether and make a channel somewhere else, it doesn't matter. All the other shit is still on yt and you'll never reach a critical mass of emigration.

YouTube is literally destroying its own tools to self-moderate fake news and conspiracies. GG no re Susan
That's the point of the change. Youtube don't want users to self moderate, youtube wants to moderate for them.

The main YouTube site removed the dislikes, but the invidious client still has them. So they're just hiding the dislikes, they're not fully gone. (You could probably still get them on the main website with inspect) But they're still gonna lose their value regardless because normalfags aren't going to know.

The API is going to remove dislikes on New Years 2022. Almost all videos still have them as of now, Nov 11 as hiding dislikes is opt-in for creators for now.
