Yeah, I think Dobson's the only artist I've seen that actively wants to be mocked/criticized. And at the same time, doesn't. You just can't win with him at all.
Also, this Izzy fellow seems like he could be in a league of his own.

Why is he announcing something, that takes - in his own words - only 5 minutes to draw? Will the inktober-police take him away, when he makes more than one per day?

Right. I honestly don't know what to say about this. Personally, I find his statement, "these drawings aren't really ME, you know?" most incredible. Of course they're him! He drew them. As has already been pointed out, anyone else would take the praise they received with a good grace and then get on with creating more works in the same vein. Or if they really felt they were being praised for something that ran counter to their own basic style, sensibility, whatever, surely they'd at least take a moment to try and work out exactly what it was people liked so much and see if it could be successfully integrated into their regular work? See if it really was as non-negotiable a matter as they'd originally thought? Well, of course not. Much better to stick out your lower lip and say, "but that's not what I wanted praise for! Why aren't you giving me awards for my lesbians!"

Seriously - looking at this new drawing just makes me think the same thing I've been thinking lately - I so wish Dobson would go back to his anime roots and forget about trying to draw in a more "Western" style. And yes, he should take it as good news that his anime-influenced stuff is superior. After all, I understand anime is what all the cool kids (read: weeaboo spergs) are into these days - Dobson's got a far better chance of gaining a new fanbase with works in that style than he has with a style that reminds me of nothing more than a sort of poor man's Dave Hopkins.
Speaking of which...it's this weird anime hate-boner of his that makes me think Dobson is suffering some serious confusion over exactly what his motives for drawing are. With the exception of today's shocking turnaround, he refuses to draw anime-influenced stuff...because? The students at that college anime club laughed at his fave film? Or is there more to it than that? Whatever it is, I bet it's a damn fool reason - one that has nothing to do with the aesthetic merits/non-merits of anime as a style. And certainly nothing to do with whether Dobson's actually, you know, any good at drawing it.

Took the words right out of my mouth, this is exactly the problems Dobson has, he is unable to accept other people's advise nor has the capacity of introspection to recognize what he is doing wrong and what he is doing right even when the clues are there. He's literally been given a road map telling him, "yes this is the way you should go, take it and you'll get recognition for it." But instead he, yet again, stubbornly decides that nobody is going to tell him how to do anything. He'll do it his way, at his own pace, fuck your advise and praise, he wants praise on his own terms.
No wonder he can't work in a team environment.
