Part of this is a reaction to the addiction to sex and fetishes many on social media seem to have, but it also is fueled by theories about pornography corrupting minds (with some evidence). Andrew Torba of course is good at latching onto trends and opportunities in that crowd even if he can't implement them whatsoever, just look at the idea behind Dissenter or announcing services after ban waves.

Those are the exact opposite arguments, but you're trying to frame them like they're the same thing. Besides, rulings of the government at the time said that cannons and puckle guns were A-OK for private ownership, meaning citizens were fully expected to be able to buy and use military grade hardware.

This is a good point. The whole reason Desmond's antics are tolerated is because until a pedo gets caught actually violating him (and it's obvious there are sickos with deep pockets throwing their cash around to block investigations into that) the government has deemed what's going on perfectly moral.
