Andrew Torba / Gab (Gab.com / Gab.ai) / Dissenter (dissenter.com) - An incompetent captain sinking millions of other people's dollars.

Why don't the Alt-Tech Video Platforms just fork PeerTube? If they did, they would be Peer-to-Peer and have Live Streaming, HD Uploads, and Subtitles.

Won't be surprised if Gab TV will be the first one to fork it.

Peertube has a lot of problems. It's fine-ish for archiving, but atrocious for discovering new content. Gab TV is a lot better than Peertube in a lot of ways, at least insofar as it's complete, obviously Peertube is further along in development.

They have no reason to use Peertube for anything. Pretty sure Gab is done pretending to be open source anyway.

I really wish someone would fork Gab and rewrite the backend infrastructure so it's more stable. Then, release it as a Fediverse Software.
You wouldn't need to fork Gab for this, necessarily. soapbox.pub is already the 2019 version of GabFE running on Pleroma. Tooter.in is a social network for India based on post-federation Gab, less brand-specific version of their interface. I'm not sure if they're bound by the software license in that part of the world but they might provide source code and it would just be a matter of re-adding ActivityPub.

Or if you're looking for feature parity, Misskey has it and more. They don't have working groups but it's in development, that's what I host my Fediverse node on.

But do I get a CEO who will tweet Christ is King well wearing a green hat MAGA hat that says Make Speech Free Again.

As a tradcath boomer from St Mary's Kansas that is all I need. Now let me tell you about how the gay modernist homofacist commies took away my birthright latin mass.

Torba just posted an update for Gab's Security Breach Investigation
The personal information that could have been affected includes your Gab handle (i.e., the URL at which your account profile is available (e.g., www.gab.com/xyz)); your Gab display name; your email address; a hashed version of the password that you use to access your Gab account; and your Gab user identification number. If you chose to verify your account by going through our verification process and submitting a picture of your driver’s license, passport, or other identification document as part of that process, the information on that document (including your date of birth) may also have been affected.
It turns out wow that they mave have leaked more than they intially reported a few weeks ago.
We have taken steps to prevent an attack in the future, as well as made additional improvements that strengthen our cybersecurity protections, including changing administrator passwords on affected systems, employing multi-factor authentication on administrator accounts, implementing steps to migrate our platform to a new back-end infrastructure, and deploying an endpoint monitoring solution.
I wouldn't count "changing administrator passwords on affected systems" as "additional improvements". That's typically the first improvement. And "endpoint monitoring"? So are we supposed to assume they weren't keeping any access logs? I'm sure a new back-end infrastructure will fix the incompetence.

We already knew about the ID leak from the Sparrow mosaics. Particularly noteworthy is they've always claimed to delete those ID's, but judging by the number of total pro users (about 20K IIrc) it seems like they never did.

Re: Endpoint moderating, I assume they mean that they're going to do a regular audit.

"New backend infrastructure" will help them in the sense that they're going to ditch the AGPL so they can't have their code examined in real time. But Gab's developers are the ones who introduced so many insecurities into Mastodon to begin with. It'll probably be the same as it is now, but security through obscurity and whatnot.
Pretty sure Gab makes you submit a selfie while holding your ID, which makes it extremely hard to see the text on the ID.
How would that make the text hard to see? It just depends on the camera.

The hackers said they only have 831 Verification Documents, which means Gab prob did delete most of the submitted IDs.

Maybe they were looped for the mosaics, pretty sure there were more than a thousand.

An update to the Texas GoP, they apparently voted to delete their Gab account for antisemitism. I don't think there's an official source on it, but they haven't posted since the disavowal.

Gab said they will switch to their own Infrastructure, called Hydra, within 90 Days

Hail HYDRA!

Sounds like they rolled their own elastic computing solution. That release has more promises in it than Cyberpunk had pre-launch.

They've said this at least 3 times prior over 2 years. I can't take it seriously anymore, it never happens.
