I wouldn't call it a successor, if anything, it's like LBRY's centralized counterpart. LBRY still exists but for decentralized purposes.

I don't get it either, there exists less suspicious alternatives with better looking UI and only requires an Email at most.

Odysee is basically the front end for Lbry or more accurately Lbry.incs hosting. Everything you upload to Odysee is published to the Lbry network, which is a decentralized peer to peer network that runs off of a blockchain. The content is downloaded from seeders just like a torrent. You can host files yourself on the Lbry network if you have the Lbry app.

In fact if you log in to your Odysee account from the Lbry app every video you watch through the app is saved and hosted to your machine by default. You have to go into settings if you want to turn this off.

I'm guessing Odysee can "delist" videos they don't want on their service, but these videos will remain on the Lbry network as long as there is someone to host them. Anyone could realistically create their own Odysee that searches through Lbry content, the code is open source so anyone can build a Lbry app.

Probably trying to get their guys to run for office. There's certainly enough anger at ordinary GOP people for at least some seats to flip to them. Whatever happens, Torba is a sperg. But that's still preferrable to Dorsey and Zuckerberg running things.

The problem is Dorsey and Zuck showed their hand, there was always room for manipulating the narrative pushing certain stories up while pushing other stories down.

but you have to be subtle you have to let things play out and know the limits of what you can do.

The blatant partisan censorship turns people off. I can see why people would "move" to another platform and that moving destroys the network effect these companies sent billions to capture.
