So I honestly came on this morning to see if there was a nice summary of the Raging Raul vs Shadiversity drama that started back in July because I only ran across a taster of it the other day and thought it was hilarious. Since I haven't been able to find anything, I'm really happy that I get to contribute something! Here's what I know.
In case you don't know about him,
Shadiversity, or Shad M. Brooks, is an Australian YouTuber that mostly does HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) content of highly dubious accuracy and quality and frequently pisses off the HEMA community. He's been accused of joining the "manosphere" lately with some of his other content - it seems he gives a lot of his takes on games and movies now - although the few clips I've seen from his podcast before this Madge Miguel situation were either pretty harmless or very based.
Now, we begin with Irate Inigo's video reviewing the Barbie movie shared above. At about
10:48, our hero specifically brings up "that one guy that has that, you know, that does swords and stuff" and, in the usual high quality YouTuber move of sharing a video from your phone showing a tweet on your dirty monitor, shares the villainous tweets with the audience:
After spending some time shitting on Shad and his thumbnails, our hero then spends some time... mostly agreeing that the film "loses steam" because it became so heavily laden with the whole "patriarchy, patriarchy" thing. An interesting plan of attack to be sure.
Shad catches wind of this and makes a very level-headed 22:20 response video on his
KNIGHTS WATCH channel where he details a bit about why he makes thumbnails the way he does when he loves or hates a show or movie, reasserts why he and his wife hated the Barbie movie and think it's a terrible message for the world, and specifically also calls out our hero for branding himself as ANGRY JOE while hypocritically telling others to not be ANGRY and also not being ANGRY himself.
A strong response. Can our hero recover??? Well...
Seems like Pissed Pedro has chosen to deploy the same comment-chimpout move he's tried on others over the years, with the same result as ever: Earning that L. 295 replies, and it's difficult to find a single supportive one. Oof.
The villain Shad sees the opportunity created for him, and capitalizes on it, gaining hundreds of thousands of views to his channel in the last month because of this idiotic internet slapfight with a 1:06:08 video:
The strategy is a bit too heavy-handed for my liking, but our villain picks apart everything our hero said in his comment, piece by piece. Is it possible that our hero has learned a lesson? Or maybe has thought of a winning tactic to use?
...Nope.
