Then I read that the director apparently hired a hentai animation studio to animate that ONE scene ... Fucking gross and a complete betrayal of the horror of the original scene.
Bruh, are you for real? Why in the world did Studio 4°C feel a need to let some other lowbrow studio take over for that scene? Was this the director's idea because he wasn't comfortable directing the scene? Let the assistant director do it, then, faggot.

The memorial edition sounds like a cheap, lazy cash-in to begin with because no one wants to adapt more of the manga anyway, but holy cow. I don't even remember the movie trilogy screwing up that scene in such a way, but it's been a long while. Maybe there was some flushing if only because heat, but still.

I can also see it happening because Miura is dead so he couldn't object to it, which is doubly-insulting if true.

What's crazy is that this adaptation covers the "Wounds: Parts 1 and 2" chapters, and those sex scenes are so much more subtle than the Eclipse scene. So it's really offputting (to put it mildly) to me that they decide to get so much more sexually explicit with a rape scene instead of an actual sex scene? Just a weird choice.

The manga handled both scenes well if you ask me. I've always thought that the scenes with Guts and Casca are the yin, and the Eclipse is the yang. Love vs. Hate and Sex vs. Violence. The manga does NOT blur the lines between sex vs. rape ... It's not subtle about that distinction at all, lol.

Apparently Miura once said that the regretted adding as many rape scenes early on as he did in the manga? If that's the case, then that makes the Memorial Edition's "interpretation" of the rape scene during the Eclipse that much more disgusting.

Very subtle.

That would explain Casca reciprocating.

But yeah the memorial addition also had some bad sound mixing compared to the movies, since it was obviously rushed/redubbed to take advantage of Miura's death. I like 97' because it had tact, the scene only has the Behelit Theme playing and Guts screaming.

Yeah, I noticed how terrible the sound mixing was. I could not hear a single damn thing Guts was saying during his "declaration of war" moment especially. Frustrating.

Some people knock on the 97 anime for its "outdated animation," but fuck it ... It had so much more tact, style, pacing, character development, etc.

The final scene of the 97 anime is so disturbing and horrifying because of so many elements. In manga, you kind of have to "show" what's happening ... In animation, you have many ways to depict a scene in addition to visuals, and the 97 anime did it so damn well. It's oddly quiet in the 97 anime because it primarily focuses on every character's facial expressions: Casca is in physical pain, Guts is in emotional agony, and Griffith eyes are full of sinister hate. All of that, with the moody and eerie soundtrack, makes the scene so much more impactful.

In the newer anime, there's big and bombastic music being played, gross sounds are dialed up to an 11, Casca's moaning is louder than everything else, the animation choices are really in poor taste, etc. It just doesn't work at all, in my opinion.

Speaking of Manga, I've caught up with multiple after having let my reading list sit for a few months and build up. Dandadan passed 200 chapters, still fun. Spy X family is still solid.

One thing I've noticed is the manga sites I used have slowed way down since that major DCMA strike on Mangadex. It kinda hit every site. None of mine got hit, but it's rough seeing how slow the updates have gotten.

@WelperHelper99 I think you are right that Clevatess is going to be awesome. The second episode was fantastic, and I can't remember the last time that a full anime episode felt like it was 3 minutes long. Poor Neru Q_Q

Was really surprised the female hero wasn't raped, though her just fucking killing herself was a great surprise, and made me really respect that she is absolutely not fucking around. I am really hoping Clevatess slaughters all the bandits horribly. I cant help but wonder if the tear jerker Neru is going to suffer some kind of horrific fate in the future regardless, but I am definitely along for the ride.
Holy shit that was a tearjerker of a story. Really hope she gets her body repaired by Clevatess.

This season is a banger. I feel like the last two years were a draught.

Thing is I have no fucking clue how Clevatess got picked up. Manga wise, it has 28 chapters out since 2020 i believe. Its pretty slow in terms of updates. But someone in charge of picking adaptions read this and went "we are going to make a fucking masterpiece out of this little guy". You don't see this often. It isn't a big story but they are pouring budget and talent in like crazy. I fucking love it man. Love that shit.

Never trust Western manga sites when it comes to length.

I just checked and there are 50 chapters in the Kadokawa website [though chapters 46-50 are hidden from guests], with chapters 37-50 being two-parters. So that's 64 chapters. More than enough content for a season or two.

The scanlators need to pick up the pace then, good lord that's a backlog

Not just that, but it appears there's more money or clout or whatever involved in translating That Time I Fell Down A Well And Entered A World Where I Fucked My Sister or whatever than the actually cool shit coming out.
And after Mangadex fell, Mangakatana has been pretty good overall for me so far.

watched freiren a few months ago and enjoyed it nice cozy with enough combat to keep me entertained and good choreography for said combat but I've seen clips of the dub and it being praised from "one of the good ones to one of the best" I'm not one for the sub vs dub to each his own I personally can't take anime seriously in dub bar a few but clips I've seen of the dub range from bland for freiren to cringe for others i.e the scene with the carriage falling.
Any thoughts?

Also anyone heard of or read Babel?

Most western voice actors suck imo, including Frieren dub. Often times it feels like they choose the most generic average sounding people that don't fit the character at all
