Shinji....is his mom meant to be sort of an antagonist? Or she's with him spiritually speaking?
Both. He's only compatible with 01 because his mother's soul is in it, but she's also a representation of Shinji being unable to let go and move on. He desperately doesn't want to get in the damn robot because yes he's a high schooler scared but it's also him unwilling to confront his mother's soul. Proof that she is in fact dead. Gendo certainly couldn't and look what happened to him. Nigger made daughter wife clones and used everyone around him because he couldn't stomach the guilt or responsibility he has for her death.
Was Kaworu meant to be a one off or did his popularity actually increase his role in media following EoE?
He's meant to be a red herring. He's Adam reborn- the final boss (but not actually). Unlike Lilith (Rei) who would trap humanity in a dream because of her "love", he sees that the beauty of people is that they are awake. It's why he latches to Shinji in a very gay way, trying to help him and ultimately letting Shinji kill him.

Just saw the latest frieren episode and enjoyed it

Im really hyped for the Golden Land Arc unfortunately it won't start until next year.

I have some Evangelion questions musings etc.

Yui dies in a freak accident. Her soul is in Eva 01, Asuka's mom in 02. Naoko in 03 (?)
All the trauma that happens to Shinji....is his mom meant to be sort of an antagonist? Or she's with him spiritually speaking?
EoE aka depression the movie. Its believed Anno did it because of the death threats and shit. However glimpses in the final two episodes hint that everyone is pretty much gonna die anyway. People point to Misato's death as proof that the show isnt 'just another mecha' but the show proper already proves this. (Asuka bathtub suicide and mind rape, Naoko vs Rei vs Ritsuko vs Rei clones, Kaji's death, etc)
As for Rei, she's the poster child of the franchise but in EoE she's technically the antagonist (?) next to Gendo in that her form is created when the world dies and.....yeah my brain is gone. I can't comprehend it.
Rebuild ends more positively except Misato died......

Oh god I'm terrified at what Yoko Taro will do.
What, are you blaming Yui for what happens to Shinji because she kills herself on purpose so that her soul can be inside the Eva and make her husband and son suffer because she really really doesn't like her dad?

And Rei isn't exactly the antagonist with regards to Third Impact since she's more of a tool for Gendo/Seele, even if the latter tried to use Kaworu to get the result they wanted. Rei didn't have any intentions regarding Third Impact, but when the time came to perform it, Rei was too attached to Shinji and thus would prefer to fulfill whatever his heart desires. At that point, that was to erase everyone because he was completely unstable thanks to how everyone he cared about was either dead or dying by now. The giant Rei who appears is actually Lilith, of course, the same ginormous being that was sealed in the depths that Kaworu found, after all, so if you want to prescribe antagonism there it should really be her you should be talking about.

Anything else you don't comprehend?

That is unfortunate but I really respect the studio behind Frieren for committing to the bold decision of a 10 episode second season in order to deliver on that arc.

A lesser studio would have either stretched it out with filler content or rushed to get it done early. Staying true to both the pacing and quality is worthy of praise, even if it sucks to have a short season now.

I'd only be interested in Taro Eva if they went to 11 with the mental fuckery, or actually let Shinji grow. Yeah Shinji is a hedgehog or whatever but a true hedgehog could never do the synch fight with Asuka, he'd just be sad all the time and the world would end because he could never do anything. Shinji gets some genuine victories in the show, but good or bad he never really learns any lasting lessons from any of it until it's time to nuke the world. The excuse of "he has issues, he can't grow" is a crutch. This isn't much of a problem for Asuka because Asuka was capable of acknowledging her problems to her friend and does nothing but lose as the show goes on... but Shinji?

Shinji saves Asuka in the volcano like a Chad, she smiles at him, not even getting jealous, but it's never brought up again. Why? Because it can't be brought up again because Shinji has to be hedgehog boy. Shinji and Asuka get into perfect synch with each other and defeat two Angels, but they don't grow closer towards each other? Not even a little? There isn't one moment later where Shinji thinks about that? Shinji quits being an Eva pilot, makes the choice to come back himself, but ultimately learns no lesson from it? It beggars belief that he'd even be able to tie his shoes with how self-loathing he is, not one moment of triumph is mentioned again. If you're not going to let characters suffer and grow then just make it an angsty EoE-tier director's cut every episode. If Taro is doing it I want it to be a never ending introspective nightmare "Shinji jerks off on Asuka wtf" fest where characters get mind raped on the instrumentality train.

Finished Fate/EXTRA Last Encore.

It was better than when I first watched, context matters a lot and this series is one example of how many series dont work via "it must stand on its own", this series only means something with the context of Fate/EXTRA and other fate stuff.

Which ties to today's episode of fate/strange fake.

As usual Twice was my favorite character and Leo and Gawain were amazing, in the end I was rooting for Nero and Hakuno to actually lose lol.

The best fights were also in these 3 episodes that still wasn't amazing but way better than before.

Curiously, I believe Twice was right, this timeline Humanity has no hope and should be extinct. The reflection of Leo and Twice in the end kinda felt empty platitudes to bring in after 1000 of a hellish existence on the real Earth.

Twice being also a Dead Face and being a spiteful ghost of his own NPC is such a brilliant take. The guy who wanted eternal war just got tired out of waiting and gave up, the curses that he causes to surge formed a second twice and was trying to kill all humans of that god forsaken earth, a true curse.

And Hakuno and Nero were easily the worst parts, not even Hakuno dead face, but Nero has so many moments of empty dialogue that doesn't reflect that she was a shit person.

And in the anime he was planting vegetables, deepest lore lol

So they killed the hype then? The series will be done by 2030 at this point. Its over...
For real, man..
Even the voice actors onstage said all they got was a vague answer when they asked the producers about the release date.
So every stage will have its own release date?
They only talked about the 2nd stage during this event, no mention of stages 3-9.
What I'm really wondering is why did they spend 4 years working on it if they're gonna pull this dumb move? At least give us a date, dammit.

Mikoncels such as myself will have to make do (sufffah) with Foxtail and it's abysmal fucking pace.

I'm getting an Endless Eight vibe here where it's not Netflix but the producer wanting to split it off to per stage release because "it's a race".

New Rayearth trailer.
New Nanoha trailer.
New Sword Dad trailer.
The Nanoha trailer is just schitzo, looks like they spliced scenes with the characters into an entirely different edgy anime with shotguns rather than beam wands.

Original Sword Dad was fun, but like all isekai (and idol anime), it's only interesting when the main characters are underdogs.

Rayearth is pretty pointless when the original exists and probably looks better. I don't remember much of it besides the plot twist and the second season becoming a mecha anime.

Fox tail gave me more Tamamo content than EXTRA itself tho. The only thing I liked more to know was about the time Twice was Caster's Master.

Also finished the final strange fake episode and imagine people who started with this even when everyone (but Gigguk) said that it was ok to start and gets spoilered for the entire Fate/Zero lol.

Also Van-Fem just chilling in his boat and talking with Flat on the phone.

Very kino ending to the show. My funny little man is dead, and that makes me very sad. But I know that it will lead to perhaps the best battle between jobbers- Enkidu vs Thia. Also the Dorothea and Van Fem bit was hilarious. I imagine that's what it's like when you dead name a Troon.
