If you ask me, they shouldn't be allowed to have children. We didn't give people a choice to have the smallpox vaccine -- why are we allowing people to have a choice now? Unless it's a medical reason (there are people who cannot be vaccinated), then fuck 'em. Your kids are the ones who are going to suffer. It's fucking child abuse. I just remember that one woman saying she didn't get her son a tetanus shot after he cut himself on a fence because "his immune system is strong". What kind of parent risks her kid dying of lock-jaw? Tetanus is an extremely painful way to die.

Oddly enough I have a relative who died of tetanus in the early 1900's from a vaccine he was given at school. Yet I'm all for vaccines.

Gotta remember - just because one person got hurt from something does not mean everyone else will. One mistake does not deserve a knee jerk reaction of barring something altogether. Also, I am sorry for your loss.

Probably has something to do with the fact that we keep widening the umbrella under which we define "autism". Used to be that you had to be freakin' Rain Man in order to be called autistic. Now you get put on the spectrum if you get fussy about how your sandwich is made.

This may not be far off from the truth. I seem to recall a link between lack of parental interaction and autism. Turns out using the television as a baby sitter leaves you with messed up social skills.

There are many social disorders caused by a lack of parent-child interaction, but most evidence of autism-spectrum disorders has genetic roots, and certainly not vaccines.

ADD is a load of bullshit too. Sure some kids are extremely hyperactive, but most of the kids that were diagnosed with ADD and put on Ritalin were just normal kids. Children are by nature very energetic, and it's not natural for a child sit still in class all day. I'm not saying kids should run completely wild, but if a kid is restless in class, it's because kids would rather run and play, and maybe that kid needs more physical activity outside class instead of sitting in front of the TV for hours on end.

Not to powerlevel, but ADHD can actually be fucking horrid in adults too. I know a handful (including myself) of people who have ADHD as adults, and while a lot can fight it off and be normal, a lot can't actually function day-to-day without medication. I should know

I just finished reading "Deadly Choices" by Paul Offit (probably the leading expert on vaccines here in the U.S.) It made me hate anti-vaxxers so much more.
One thing he did write about is that this isn't a new thing -- when the smallpox vaccine came out, people were terrified of that too. (Although at least then there was the excuse that vaccination in general was a new invention, as opposed to innoculation, which could be fatal) People nowadays however have seen the results, so there aren't any excuses. And another thing is, that when there HAVE been vaccines that have shown to have negatives side effects -- the original rotavirus vaccine, for example -- the FDA swiftly banned its use.

ADHD definitely exists, but it is, or at least was definitely overdiagnosed as a fashion diagnosis, and medication is overprescribed for it largely to make money. What is particularly bad about that is that the amphetamines usually prescribed for it have very bad effects on people for whom it isn't appropriate. It's basically a drug of abuse.
Another issue is that while amphetamines have the paradoxical effect of seemingly calming down those who actually have the disorder, they don't particularly enjoy it and therefore, have strong motivation to sell it to people who actually do enjoy it.
The autism spectrum is similar in that it's very fashionable to diagnose practically every kind of unusual behavior as being on the spectrum now. It's also one of those disorders where a lot of psychiatrists specialize in it, and specialists have an unfortunate bias toward diagnosing everyone with whatever it is they specialize in.

Hopefully the public supports her efforts--it's not like the children's wellbeing should be put before outrageous, disproven beliefs!
It's simply horrifying to see how uncaring some parents are toward their children and how inconsistent their logic is. If the doctor treats the child for the flu, all is well. If the doctor tries to administer a routine shot they kick and scream.
If anti-vaxxers distrust doctors so much why do they accept their autism diagnoses?
