Having a bit of a problem and just wanted to vent some frustration. I decided to start recording music again, purely as a personal hobby, but it's been so long I've either sold or given away most of my equipment.

Well anyway right now all I have is a cheap Westfield electric 6 string, a Sigma 4 string acoustic/electric bass guitar and a drum machine (it's a Yamaha dd65 digital drum machine). I've also got a cheap 10 watt BB Blaster amp and a Digitech BP50 Modeling Bass Processor. I've got a Sony digital recorder and I edit and mix it together using Audacity.

My biggest problem just now is I can hardly record anything using the bass guitar. I thought an acoustic bass would give off a lovely sound but the strings buzzing against the fretboard is making me regret ever buying one. I thought it was pretty cool, has it's own built in tuner and everything, but it's pretty much useless now. Even years ago when I was in a band I couldn't use it in the studio because of the same problem.

My other problem is playing the digital drums. I learned how to play drums years ago and I always used a regular, acoustic kit. When I moved house I could no longer keep the drum kit so I got myself a digital kit and my god it's awkward to play! The pedals are the most laughable pieces of shit I've ever used. Little buttons that barely respond most of the time. Also because all the pads are so cramped together I often hit the side of it and it doesn't register a hit.

Was getting back into this for fun and now I'm just experiencing frustration and the realization I probably need to buy an electric bass if I want to record anything. I also need to get an amplifier that is actually intended for bass guitars before I blow out this cheap little thing I'm using, and a guitar pedal or something would be nice too.

Time for another rant, or a continuation of this one. So I've been trying to order a bass guitar from Amazon, specifically this one from the Amazon dealer:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Epiphone-E...F8&qid=1478538940&sr=1-4&keywords=bass+guitar

Well, the first time they send me an Epiphone SG Special 6 string electric guitar instead of the Epiphone electric bass guitar. I was annoyed at receiving the wrong guitar, being excited to play the bass guitar when it arrived and felt the disappointment when I opened it.

So with having to return this guitar which is a pain in the ass, I sent a message to the seller and informed them of the mistake, and that I would like to return it and receive the correct item. I got no written response but a replacement was on the way, so I just sit tight until then.

Well yesterday it arrived and they sent the same wrong guitar again!!! I now have two guitars to return, and I'm so pissed off I just want a refund, I do not want to be sent the wrong guitar three times in a row!!!

God damn it, the universe is conspiring against me recording music for sure. It just wasn't meant to be.

I play guitar, bass, a little keyboards and percussion. Also sing and write my own material. Anyone else play? Feel free to post pictures of your instruments. If the thread goes anywhere, I'll post pics of my guitars and bass. I have a Stratocaster from 1984, one year younger than me. My live amp is older than I am, a 1978 Marshall 2150.

I actually have two guitars: an Ibenez and a Gibson. A friend recommended that i have one guitar tuned normally and the other tuned a half-step down. it's sounded great so far. I also have a low grade drum machine.

I don't know if this counts, but I've been experimenting a lot with FL Studio. I'd like to start composing my own electronic/synthpop/vaporwave/dubstep music. I've got a great voice and a fantastic sense of rhythm.

Yeah, that's pretty kosher advice. You'll be able to play most any popular song that comes your way. Ever tried C standard? You might have to get a guitar specifically for it (because of the very low tension a standard, E standard optimized neck would give you) but you can get some excellent definitions to your clean chords with the added low end.

Used to play clarinet, and now I play ocarina. 6 and 12 hole, although I only have my 6 hole with me up at college. I got the 6 hole from a street vendor in Hangzhou and the 12 hole through Ebay.

I play the violin, and I really want to learn piano.

Got my shit together and took a photo of my ocarinas.

I finally set up my recording stuff again. Now to get back in the habit of practicing every day so I can not fuck up when I record. Here was a thing I did to run through how my various instruments sound. In order: clean bass, overdriven bass, 2x clean acoustic, distorted guitar (it sounds like shit on the chords).

2010 Epiphone Wilshire Pro in Aged Pelham that's had Seymour Duncan P-Rails direct-mounted and control switches for them installed along with a Stetsbar trem, locking tuners, and the neck sanded from a gloss to a satin finish, the interior shielded with copper tape, and the push-pull function of the knobs allowing a full bypass of the them and raw pickup output when the volume knobs are pulled. Next, I'm replacing those knobs with chickenhead style ones, replacing the nut with either a graphite or roller style one, and replacing the pickguard with likely an anodized aluminium custom made one with a sparkle finish and etched artwork. The tuners are kinda generic and I may end up replacing them with some made by Gotoh. I had the option for Sperzels, but they were brushed nickel, and I prefer chrome, as well as the added hassle to drilling in new holes for them was just a task I was unwilling to commit to at the time.

I've got an early 80's Les Paul (not a Gibson, an MIJ "knockoff" that is likely better than an actual Gibson from that time period) and a newer Epiphone SG which is trash.

The Les is in the shop at the moment getting frets polished and some new hardware installed.

I play through an Orange Dual Terror and some various fuzz and overdrive pedals.

Am I stupid for wanting to get a guitar that I have no idea how to play, but the money and passion for?

Not at all. Only way to learn is to fuck about with one until it starts sounding right.

literally everyone starts that way, I got my first guitar cos I was obsessed with Blink 182 as a kid and wanted to be able to play along cos it 'looks cool', nothing stupid about wanting to learn no matter the reason.

Alright well now I don't feel so dumb for wanting to go down to the store for a guitar and an amp. Thanks guys.
