Anyone else sees Nintendo as predatory? - And other large game companies as well

Why though wasn't the gamecube good

The controller is an abomination, didn't have that many noteworthy games, and was the only console of that generation to not embrace online multiplayer. The only part Nintendo really knocked out of the park was that the Gamecube was a stellar schoolyard weapon. What could be better than a cube with a handle on it?

Respectfully disagree with you on the games part albeit the controller part i agree as someone who loves the ps2

The Switch has proven to me they're no more competent than their competitors in any area other than marketing. While a handheld/home console hybrid is a neat idea, the inflated prices of their controllers since launch, major drifting issues existing on every controller they've manufactured since 2017 and their refusal to acknowledge that, and a lack of any sort of quality moderation for their digital games store is ridiculous. They also removed any personality from their System UI that used to exist and it now basically just looks like mobile Xbox. Plus multiple of their franchises have begun to lose quality and fast.
I agree with all of those, and also the fact that there's barely any third-party titles. While I've seen some great work done to get AAA games on the Switch (Doom 2016 and The Witcher 3 come to mind), there isn't enough of those out there due to how underpowered the system was from the start.

IMO the biggest issue with the GameCube were those stupid Mini-DVD discs that Nintendo used. As games got bigger, third-parties didn't bother with trying to cram their games on them, causing a lack of support.

They were just hit with another major joycon lawsuit btw.

I'm going to guess that the switch revision or the next system is going to have to do away with it entirely.

They could just put in a normal joy stick without the bullshit. I mean, they know how to make them, they invented thumb sticks and every one they've released OTHER than the Switch one has been fine.

My problem with the Gamecube controller is that it has no L2 and select buttons, thus creating decades of bullshit that still exists today (had to buy a pro controller because joy cons make my fingers ache and the GCN adaptor just won't cut it with the missing buttons.) Those cheap fuckers, they knew there were going to be PS2 ports, why didn't they have enough buttons for them.

Also, back on the drift issue, those law suits are why they aren't saying anything publicly. You won't hear any mention of drift, other than return policies, until they are resolved.

As much as I like their products and grew up with them, they're a business first and foremost; they're just protecting their brand (ie: not letting anyone but themselves and whoever they hire use their stuff) and any copyright holder has the right to do that.

When you play in a predator's territory you can't be surprised when you get fucked raw. There's a very simple solution to this but I'm afraid its beyond the grasp of spergs.

I have a hard time believing nintendo will actually go back on their "no issues here" approach. They've still got billions to burn. How much can these suits really take out of them?

Well for one thing if it's proven that they willingly sold known faulty equipment the switches would be taken off the market by legal means.

Also how the memory cards were laughably small until they finally released the 251 and (somewhat rare) 1019-block ones

Opinions on the Gamecube are like a litmus test, nobody on forums outside of Smash fags cared at all until the generation that played it as young children grew up. Go back to like mid-2006 and the mantra of the Gamecube was like "well, um, it has smash, and OH the Wii is gonna have backwards compatibility! so you can play smash on there too"

even Celda: the Wind Wanker had mixed opinions, the artstyle really did put a lot of people off and the sailing seemed to just kill the game off for a lot of people that otherwise enjoyed it. And that's one of the more well-known games for the system.

like I swear, everyone who now talks about actually enjoying Sunshine either grew up with it or transferred over from the Berenstein universe or some shit because nobody liked Mario Sunshine when it was new

Yeah this is pretty much true. Gamestop reduced all used gamecube games to 90% and tied a BOGO to them for months and it took a full year and a half to finally get rid of them all.

Like before the sale I had like 30 Gamecube games, afterwards I had close to 200.

Zelda anthology that everyone praises, Toysrus was selling them for 10 bucks you didn't even need to buy anything with it since they were just desperate to get rid of all the shelfwarming stock.

Fire Emblem was discounted to under 20 bucks as well.

Didn't Nintendo ask them nicely to not use that program and instead try to figure a different way? That it uses plagiarized code?

Supposedly, if I remember right, the lawyers suing Nintendo got a hold of their patents and design documents regarding the Switch controller and found that they cut costs by using an inferior material that wears down significantly faster. No other major company uses that material solely because it's shit. Fuck, I don't think third party peripherals use that stuff.

If your first instance when it comes to Nintendo being predatory is them sending a C&D to some Meleespergfags who admitted they don't have permission to host their shit Online tournament because they want to use a modded emulator and there's no way to know if the contestants are using a legit copy or not, instead of:

  1. Their shit quality of Mario 3D Collection compared with other game collections especially it's barebones;
  2. Broken Joy-Cons they still have not addressed;
  3. Shitty Online service that you have to pay for;
  4. Limited time offers for certain games to get quick bucks e.g. Mario 3D Collection, Fire Emblem NES
Then I bet you don't even care about Nintendo being anti-consumer or predatory, I bet it's all because you can't watch your Fox wavedash fest tourney anymore for now.

Nintendo betrayed their own customer-friendly PR when they started C&Ding ROM sites - stifling many nostalgic franchises that would have perpetuated interest in Nintendo's newer titles is the biggest corporation-level case of shooting-yourself-in-the-foot I have ever seen. These communities were fucking harmless, even beneficial to Nintendo with their whole "let's just reboot the same franchises in every generation haha we are so cute" shtick. But no. Japanese exceptionalism means if they can't make a profit on obscure nostalgia titles, they'll bloody well stop anyone having fun with them.
