Can someone sell me on this game? I don't think I "get it". It seems fine enough but what's the big appeal of this game over say Tarkov?
better art direction/maps, you can play like your Kevin Mcallister with all the traps and tech you can deploy, the ARC force you into sometimes teaming up or you can use the ARC to force someone out of cover or even kill players for you.

its a very dynamic game.

More approachable than Tarkov. You don’t have to be sweat lord supreme with the optimal loadout to not suck. The AI isn’t as brain dead and can even be a challenge on solos. Gun fights can be interesting and not always whoever shoots first wins

they are if you are retarded and have no ability to plan ahead, in pure just gunbattles, you'll lose every fucking time if you shoot last and both of you don't miss, the TTK is very very fast in this game, and if your at 10 hp its multiple items to get you full healed and shielded, well over 10 seconds of effort.

the real trick is never getting in a position where just blasting each other is the outcome, bombs, traps, barricades, doubling back on them, smoke+tracking nade... all of these can win you the fight effortlessly, however for every second you fight that guy, an oppurtunist is likely waiting for you to move in to loot.

since its third person, plenty will be peaking and stealthing just out of sight. or even above you in some maps like Stella.

This is honestly one thing that really puts me off in third person PvP shooters. I much prefer first person for the feel and you don't get the free over the shoulder peeking. It often forces stalemates where both parties don't need to make any move because they can both see everything from behind full cover. Neither is able to make a move without a suicide charge. I guess in a way this is more casual friendly since it removes uncertainty. Does ARC do anything to prevent stalemates or help flush people out of cover? I think the usual answer is grenade spam.

Shit tends to move too fast for that to be a problem, and the (generally excellent btw) map design helps ensure that if you're being a coward in an active firefight you'll probably wind up shot in the ass by a third party. Grenades are very effective if you have them and tend to be weird or utility types like stuns/remote c4/an exploding gas trail thing rather than the conventional sort which makes that more interesting, but the game's movement is the more general solution. At least in short-range fights there tends to be a lot of diving/sliding to catch people from odd angles, even after running directly at them, the moment they take cover. Which works because the weapons are so lethal.

But if you're not really into third person combat I wouldn't worry about being sold on ARC. After 50 hours I think I'm completely done with it, and I spent half of that wishing it was first-person because it kinda clashes with the cool part, which is the ARCs themselves, in terms of situation awareness. The game had a pretty unique feel closer to launch when people hadn't figured everything out, but it seems to have settled into sort of a colourful hyperactive tarkov-lite thing.
I wouldn't recommend it to anybody in its current state unless they think the full-on deathmatch PvP looks super fun, it does that part great. Everything else seems almost pointless since there's no reason to drop with more than a free kit for that (and even if you do, nobody else is, so the looting aspect becomes basically just for heals).

So my buddies and I are thinking of getting this game, how is the cheater and sweat situation? As much as I love extraction shooters its no fun getting domed by an aimbotter or ganked by someone with 2000+ hours in the game.

I’ve run into one cheater so far, not too bad and if the game finds out then you get your stuff back. The game can be pretty sweaty tho but not as bad as most shooters.

Rats tend to congregate around a few specific areas and you will learn to read the people. Just note that not everyone is on full KOS mindset so don't be afraid to use the emotes and mic to resolve situations.

I've ran into more rats than cheaters (0 cheaters). But if you're playing with buddies it'll mostly be pvp. I've run into one PvE lobby with squads. Would love if they fixed that shit.

20000000+ hrs bs is non existent in the game. If you get shot first in close quarters you're down even if you have good guns. Stronger shields mitigate that and you have a chance. They're worth it.

Run pve solo for grinding guns and loot and fun.
Squads for pvp fun.

Is the expedition actually worth it?
Trials are fun, easier with squads.

if you smoke nade fast enough, you can disengage.

I carry smoke nades and door blockers, its more effective than nades, you can smoke, run through a door block it, and completely heal up and have a plan.

any location you are going to could have niggers around the corner, have your smoke or rattler/stitcher/bobcat ready, as they have fast enough TTK to headshots that you can win even after getting hit first.

the true way to avoid being hit is walking to your location when you know its an area with people/loot/extracts, you will make the minimum amount of sound and be able to hear the maximum amount of player noise

I do feel like the heavy shield isn't good enough to justify the movement penalty compared to the medium shield.

And the legendary weapons are complete garbage to justify the energy ammo cost, max 5 stack and having to get some from a harvester. It feels like this game's balance and grading with weapons is all over the place. If I had to tell which guns are worthwhile.

  • It would be the Anvil, Renegade & Hullcracker for PVE,
  • Torrente, Stitcher, Bobcat, Rattler, Tempest for PVP (Stitcher and Rattler coming with free loadouts and extremely easy to make justifys it)
  • Venator, Vulcano and Osprey for both. (Osprey naturally for getting Trails done with attracting air enemies and sniping raiders in the open)
Arpeggio is outdone by most weapons due to the 3 round burst not being strong enough against raiders and any other medium ammo gun being better.

Bettina isn't great for a heavy ammo weapon. The fire rate is too low that you don't get enough damage from it compared to the Anvil and a medium ammo gun with better fire rate.

Burletta is okay as an alternative to the stitcher but I would not rely on it for PVP.

Ferro is outdone by the Anvil plus it has no scope compared to the Osprey, Plus having to reload it every shot makes you wide open. Good if you get a headshot on someone by surprise but that's it.

IL Toro is okay for shotgun and can do decent damage to raiders if in close counters but for dealing with Arc it's not great.

Kettle is just a worse Burletta with a long reload time.

And the Hairpin. The most worthless gun of all. The fuck do you mean Stealth? Stealth in this game isn't much of a factor other than waiting and camping. Players can lower the foliage to low so they can see you better, By the time you shoot someone with it, it's a bolt action so it will take a bit of time to able to fire again and the damage isn't enough to justify it. Arcs will still know where you shot them from and than there's the fact that you may get a server icon which indicates there is player activity nearby which pretty much gives the other player more warning..

Shame the dupe glitch got patched, I was having fun chucking ducks at people before filling the area with blaze grenades and showstoppers

I think its a lot more chaotic and fun than something like Tarkov, and unlike Helldivers, the gameplay loop feels like it has a lot of range, especially if you play solo sometimes. There's a lot of funny moments with people, but also very strong atmosphere when alone, and a satisfaction that reminds me of roaming around in Fallout, but with way more possibilities of what can happen, because raiders are real people. Helldivers might have more going on for weapons and action, but it lacks in other ways like exploration and scavenging, and Tarkov is more competitive with some lite milsim influence, but there's a lot stuff that happens in this game because its setting and ridiculous situations that emerge owed to both the raiders and the mechanics of specific ARC and what they can do (those are those drones). Sometimes you cooperate. Sometimes you're sneaking around to survive. Sometimes you smoke someone because they sound retarded. Then add in a rocketeer (ARC) to complicate things and try not to lose it all to rats! :story:

It's a great game.
