archive.today vs brave browser - Archive site redirects links to github issue

It makes sense it'd be a mega-autist considering some of his rather autistic actions. My speculation is mostly unfounded but his staying power is impressive for a single-man operation.

There's no rules regarding talking about who operates whatever website on the tech board. Halal refers to when a fellow forum user crosses into lolcow territory. It's fine if you don't want to blast his GitHub account out there in the public.

Apparently the archive sites can't get their BATbux, and are trying to force the Null approved™ browser's hand.

Just wanted to correct this, as according to the guy, he actually wants to opt-out of BAT but can't due to some bug on Brave's end and didn't get a response from Brave support. This was his way of forcing the issue.

BTW the site seems to work fine on Brave now.

Has anyone else using Firefox just not able to connect to any other their domains whatsoever? For like 4-5 days now only their onion site works for me. Maybe my ISP is banned, as it works on mobile? There's a picky prick screwing me here somewhere...

are you using cloudflare's dns? there's some issue between cloudflare and archive sites, switching to something else makes it work on my end as does using a VPN.

This particular issue wasn't about DoH, it happened even with other DNS providers.

No. Switching between between my ISP's DNS, OpenDNS, and Quad9 made no difference. My cell provider internet connect is unencumbered by the issue. Using a VPN does fix the problem.

Edit 2: Useragent change didn't seem to work, even after clearing cache and cookies. He is storing it via a cookie. I have an extension called EditThisCookie that allows you to block specific cookies. So I blocked the one he is using for this.

Leaving the domain set to any should allow it to work across all the domains he has for the site.

Edit 3 - Probably need to have script blocking enabled for the site as well. It doesn't indicate it's blocking any for me, but it might still be blocking the check.

As an update to this, apparently Brave has started just plain stealing BAT from anyone with a Russian email address.

This is bad behavior from Brave if true.

The crypto exchange they work with specifically mentions Russia as somewhere that you can have an account.

And even Brave's own statements say that you can receive BAT tokens if you're in those countries- it just can't be from the referral program (i.e. they get the same shit treatment as Null). Given his prior issues with the Brave folks I think it's safe to say that Mr. Volth was not referring people to Brave, fraudulently or otherwise...

It certainly sounds like something a clueless low level support person might do.

I don't find weaponizing the site to be that unreasonable. Maybe bumping the issue once after his email and then the issue were ignored would have been a good idea.

Putting a bulletin about the issue on the main site might have been worth trying. But why would he annoy people who don't use Brave, for a problem he has with Brave?
