Are possums even real? I see them everywhere on the internet yet as I roam the desolate wastelands of eastern Arizona I ain't seeing any- no possums, no signs of possum activity or civilization. Am I doing something wrong? Am I looking in all the wrong places? There are just no possums to be seen and it makes me sad

Yeah it's a rare sight to see Possums, raccoons, or skunks where I am.

I even drove around late at night and early morning to see if I could find any.

Yet Deer are pretty common and Bats can be seen every night with ease.

I've interacted with many at the wildlife clinic and I can confirm that:
-they have way too many teeth. Far too many. And every one of them hurts.
-their main form of self defense is diarrhea

I think possums are neat.

I saw one on my driveway one night. I thought is was a massive turbo-rat at first.

Yes, they are all over the woodlands of Eastern America. I once saw one take 12 shots from a pistol before dying.

I unintentionally seeded a symbiotic relationship with a (opossum) recently. He started eating cat food on my porch and when I'd leave the house early in the morning for work, he'd flip out and run off, usually leaving the bowl of cat food spinning like a top on the porch.

But after several weeks of this, he warmed up to me. Now, he just looks up at me and slowly walks back under the house. As if to say "alright, alright, I'm going"

Still never seen one "playing opossum"
The more important question is, do they really hang by their tails upside down from tree branches like I've seen on the TV? I've never even seen one in a tree, they live in holes usually don't they? What's up with that?

I saw a skunk in my yard with its tail raised. I thought I was staring at its asshole and I would be soaked in delicious skunk specialty but thankfully it was it's face.
