Are we undergoing hypernormalization? - Insert doomer joke here

The word hypernormalisation was coined by Alexei Yurchak, a professor of anthropology who was born in Leningrad and later went to teach at the University of California, Berkeley. He introduced the word in his book Everything Was Forever, Until It Was No More: The Last Soviet Generation (2006), which describes paradoxes of Soviet life during the 1970s and 1980s. He says that everyone in the Soviet Union knew the system was failing, but no one could imagine an alternative to the status quo, and politicians and citizens alike were resigned to maintaining the pretense of a functioning society. Over time, this delusion became a self-fulfilling prophecy and the fakeness was accepted by everyone as real, an effect that Yurchak termed hypernormalisation.

"Everyone knew the system was failing, but no one could imagine an alternative to the status quo...the fakeness was accepted by everyone as real" does this ring any bells? the economy alone has already been like this for a while, 2008 at the very least, but in the mid 2010's everything went hypernormalized: gender, politics, culture, society, personal rights, privacy, etc...

We all know things are all going to shit, even most normies do, but nobody comes with a solution, at best you get the right pointing it out but their solutions tend to be half-assed, unworkable or is just going back 40-50 years as if some of this stuff didn't exist back then.

There's the documentary of the same name here, tho I find it to be mid and with some mistakes here and there.

But that's not attempting to maintain the status quo in the face of systemic collapse. That's overt radical change in an attempt to further destabilize the system and I don't see anyone putting up a pretense that everything is still normal and under control.

If trannies were everywhere and we had to ignore it and treat a man in a dress as if he were wearing a suit, that might be more akin to the "hypernormalization" concept, but what we're dealing with actually seems like the opposite. We're supposed to acknowledge and celebrate the deviance, not act as if it's not there.

words words words nothing ever happens
nothing ever happens chud.gif

There's an ever growing amount of normies and autists alike screeching into the Xitter void about how retarded everything is now, trannies, homless junkies, DEI, & mass immigration are some examples.

Normally platforms will just censor this and move on, but there's only so much you can choose to censor when a majority of your user base doesn't agree with the "new" status quo. Advertisers are doing everything in their power to try and keep online spaces one giant hug box pretending the world is fine (no hecking online hate criming, ok chuddy?), but it doesn't seem to be working when the largest social media platform is ALMOST allowing people to speak freely about how they feel.
New hate speech laws to counter this are a meme and western governments implementing them deserve to be laughed at and shamed, completely out of touch.
Does this mean the west has fallen?
We're all gonna make it.
The economy is probably fucked for a while doe.

Idk, there's something odd that's been going on though. Even many of the loudest lolcows have stopped mooing and fallen silent.

I'm unable to discern if what's happening is a good thing (that people are learning to master the new paradigm, and perhaps that a lot of the awkwardness of prior years was due to the destabilizing effect of the explosion of the internet which society is now adjusting to), or a bad thing (that people are so defeated that they no longer have the energy to do anything except keep their head down and walk forward in a straight line), or maybe a combination of both, but something's peculiar indeed.

It doesn't seem like hypernormalization or w/e though, it seems like people becoming jaded towards the circus for one reason or another.

They were trying to hypernormalize really nasty shit and it was going well but then, the lockdowns happened and it all went into hyperdrive.
What happened between March 2020 and September 2021 should have taken 10 years to implement but they rushed everything and now, a massive backlash is happening.
Literally, nobody except journos and college students likes degeneracy and crime being so widespread and as a result, """""far right""""" politicians are winning everything in Europe and several other places.
Hypernormalization failed and we're slowly going back to normal.

Most people don't understand how screwy the dollar actually is let alone how the Federal Reserve keeps up the delusion it's worth anything. There's not a lot of parallels between the United States and Soviet Union. There is very little that will disrupt faith in the USA and its dollar, not because people think the USA is perfect but because any alternatives worth believing in also exist within the borders of the USA.

not true but still widely believed. south park did an episode about this years ago, 'a little bit country' iirc.
if you dont like 'country' america there's 'rock and roll' america selling the same shite with a rainbow label.
it doesnt really fool anyone who isnt european but i suppose europeans are the retarded bumpkins of the world these days

Well yeah. That's why we keep pretending that pushing a button on Election Day will actually fix anything. We have to pretend that the United States is the greatest country on Earth (or if you're a commie, would be the greatest country on Earth if we were more like Sweden/Canada/whatever). Nobody wants to analyze the root of the problems and actually excise them, and those who do like libertarians and white nationalists and boomercons usually propose just as much delusional nonsense as they do concrete solutions. There's way too much utopian thinking on the level of the average communist that goes for magical solutions that magically solve our problems like "make a free market and legalize drugs" or "kick out all non-whites" or "reset society to the 1950s."

It's been this way since the Dotcom crash showed the cracks in the foundations of the economy we had been hollowing out since RINOld Reagan and the Democrats decided that making the line go up was better than creating actual, substantial prosperity for the average American. It's only gotten worse with trillions of dollars spent in the sandbox and on the military-industrial complex's bloated nonsense and the utterly reckless spending done under Barry Obama, Drumpf (Kushner), and PedoJoe.

I'd say no purely because it's getting more and more common for people to just openly acknowledge that society is fucked and check out or become extremists. I think we're actually in the early stages of an empire balkanization/schism, which is almost the exact opposite of hypernormalization.
In the short term though, we're experiencing something that does resemble it on the surface.

I would say, by the definition of hypernormalization presented in the OP, that would probably be best attributed to the “Nothing Ever Happens” crowd. Every possible “happening” is simply this folded into the normalization or discredited as a psyop/disregarded as a Not-Happening, therefore nothing happens and nothing will happen.

What’s being normalised is the idea that it’s (it being the immigration and degeneracy) always been this way, the eternal present, and that you have no power to change it.
The truth is that there’s an awful lot more regular decent people than there are satanic NGO enjoyers, and if we all stood up and said ‘stop’ and meant it (as in, we are willing to pick up the pointy sticks) then it would change
‘ Nothing will change until you change it’ is one of the better bits of advice I’ve received when I’ve been stuck in a rut.

(or if you're a commie, would be the greatest country on Earth if we were more like Sweden/Canada/whatever).
Countries which are not communist at all and even have tax exceptions for megacorps that you wont find even here, so they tax the shit out of the middle class instead.

Still, I seen commies becoming silent on those countries ever since all went to shit thanks to diversity. Turns out they liked those places more when it was nearly 100% white...

Nah I recall way more gloom and doom during the 00's with dubya and his wars, I was a teen back then and my school were retarded chickenhawk kids supporting the forever wars, retarded lefty kids ranting about an imminent draft, and then the conspiracy nuts who wouldn't STFU about peak oil.

The difference is that gender/race shit was practically absent back then.
I think we're actually in the early stages of an empire balkanization/schism
Nah that tends to happen when the country itself goes to shit in economical/administrative ways. By the time the balkan wars started yugoslavia was broke, they were up their necks in debt, couldn't even import fuel anymore, the currency was worth nothing, that's why everybody wanted to leave, except serbia.
