Are You Afraid of The Dark? - I wanna celebrate and show love to one of the few good things Canada has ever given the world, and that is this cheesy ass 90s kids horror anthology series. Thanks Canada!

Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark were somewhat after my time. I remember seeing a few and not being impressed but I might watch that pool monster one.

What I did watch as a kid was Eerie, Indiana. The one I remember the most is where the kid could hear what dogs were saying. Not really scary, I just remember the dogs singing about bones.

Yeah Eerie was a sweet show, not exactly scary but weird comfy show

Submitted for the approval of this thread, here's the full episode of one the episodes I had taped on VHS back in the day
The Tale of Locker 22
Amazing episode with fun characters that ended bittersweet
If you don't learn from the past, you'll be doomed to repeat it

I watched a few episodes on a DVD mailed to me by my cousins sometime in the mid to late aughts. I remember this one episode about dolls that freaked me out.

The Tale of the Doll Maker maybe? It was kinda creepy but also kinda bleh.
Not a terrible episode at all though. I'd reccomend it.

I have a constant fear that something's always there.

It was the best of the kiddie horror shows. It was like -when it first came out- we all thought "it can only get better from here!" Well, no. All of following kid horror shows sucked by comparison. The only other one worth a god damn was Eerie, Indiana. NB4 some faggot cocksucker appears ree'ing "That episode of Goosebumps scared the piss out of me, man!" Fuck you. Goosebumps sucked. If Goosebumps scared you it was because you were a retard toddler. That simple.

Best episodes: Deadman's Float, Tale of Quicksilver, Tale of the Nightshift, Tale of the Nightly Neighbors, Laughing in the Dark (it was a genius decision to never actually show the clown), Tale of the Midnight Madness, Tale of the Super Specs (largely for the ending), Tale of the Lonely Ghost, Tale of the Frozen Ghost, and Dark Music.

Not exactly the scariest thing ever but a couple of episodes got close to that and could be considered close to the level of -say- Tales from the Darkside. That kind of thing. It was dark enough that horror fans used to the tits and gore on Tales From the Crypt could still enjoy it.

There was a reboot mini series and I watched an episode or two. It was actually pretty good.

Edit: if you want to be a 90's nostalgia fag then you have to pair a double feature of Are you Afraid of the Dark with the Zeke The Plumber episode of Salute Your Shorts.

This episode scared the shit out of kids and this segment was edited down during re-runs.

I wasn't as much as into Are as my dad was I think? I don't dislike it but my dad is BIG into anthology horror stuff, like he marked out as much as me at meeting Bill Gaines back in the day
I recall a few like, one that ended with a giant pinball coming to kill him that was kinda lame, and a good one with glasses that let the kid see shadow people and then they realized he could see them

One of my favorite episodes was Tale Of The Midnight Ride. I know it was just a 90's version of The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow, but I loved the Halloween night vibes.

Ah, this and Goosebumps I watched all the times as a lad. Though Are you Afraid of the Dark blows Goosebumps campy ass out of the water in truth.

A lot of classic tales to remember. Dead Mans Float, Pinball Wizard, Laughing in the Dark, Station 109 etc and so on. I can't remember the exact title but one I'm very fond of is the episode where there was a demon in this kids basement that comes out when music is being played. The kid ends up feeding his fucking bully to the demon and the demon rewards him with a new bike, promising him more if he just keeps feeding him. The episode ends with the kid smiling devilishly as he plans to feed his sister to the demon as well.

I think I liked AYAOTD a lot because it had a good amount of bad endings like that. Showing that not everyone got a happy ending or that every kid wasn't virtuous was really cool to me.

The Tale of Station 109.1, absolutely a beaut of an episode. Not only was Gilbert Gotfried in it, but the older brother was Ryan Gosling hahahahaha he's literally me!
Thank you!!! THANK YOU!! You revived a memory that desperately needed it. I remembered the episode insofar that you would hear Gilbert Gottfried before death - which if it were any other platform than AYAOTD, would be hilarious - but not this time. Nah, utterly frightening.

Great thread. Time to revisit some good trauma!

I didn't like it as a kid, because I expected it to be scary and none of the episodes I watched ever scared me. Same with Goosebumps. Though I was watching X-Files and Unsolved Mysteries every week so maybe my tolerance was too high. I wonder if I'd appreciate it more now.

on the subject of kid spooky shows, I generally like that Christmas episode of the RL Stein one that isn't Goosebumps where the angel makes them poor because they were dicks

Jesus, that fucking soy pretend-surprised face. Well, it really has been going on for that long.

No, the doll I remember the most wasn't a girl, it was some doll with like blonde or white hair. Upon further thought I don't think the episode was ABOUT the dolls/doll? they were like important, but other shit happened.
