The definition of immunity is "the ability of an organism to resist a particular infection or toxin by the action of specific antibodies or sensitized white blood cells.". The vaccine does that. Yeah, but the mechanism they function by is also important. Flu, as you mentioned, mutates year by year and there are many variants of influenza which each have their own ways of binding to host cells. Influenza goes through a lot of mutations per year but there is typically a dominant strain, hence why the flu shot tends to be effective for a season for most but doesn't work for everyone.

Covid hasn't went through such a ton of unique mutations. The mutations it has gone through, namely Delta and Omicron, have each pushed it further down the threat list. This happens often - a virus will evolve and mutate in such a way that it either becomes so lethal it's not transmitted as efficiently because it kills the host too quickly, or it becomes more transmissible yet not as lethal.
This is a good thing, and odds are that if we see any more coof mutations they'll be down the same path.

We may still be at an impasse regarding our thoughts on the overall efficacy of the shot but I will agree with you that it's still valuable for old people. Age does a number on the immunoresponse and by the time older folks immune system activates it might be too late, so antigenic immunotherapy can benefit them even on the subscription plan model by keeping their immune system in a relative state of readiness.

Yes, I meant young adults (such as the people who predominate on this forum), rather than children (especially those who have yet to reach their teens).

While serious complications regarding Covid in young children is admittingly rare, complications from the vaccine, such as myocarditis, are rarer still and the vaccine is still beneficial in preventing myocarditis rather than causing it. The only way I could see something like a vaccine not being recommended for children is if the pathogen in question is not contagious and/or widely-prevalent enough at the present; then the (very) rare risks from vaccines might (and even then I have my doubts) be worth passing.
