There was an interview I watched with some naive shitlib lady rep from somewhere near the Great Lakes. She was one of these crunchy believers in direct democracy, and so directly polled all the people in her district during Covid on how she should vote on certain things. One of the things she polled them about was billions of additional dollars in funding for Iron Dome after billions had already been approved. The response came back as an overwhelming 'fuck no, people here are losing their jobs and businesses, not a penny to other countries'. So she voted against it, immediately had three other Congress goons confront her about her vote, tell her 'who does she think she is, voting against Iron Dome?' and threatening her reelection prospects. She was primaried out next election season with huge funding pouring into her opposition. She talked about how once you go against them they might frame you as 'anti-Israel' to Jewish constituents, but for every other group they will fund a different attack vector that will resonate with that group that has nothing to do with Israel. The point is to make an example out of you. Unless you are in a very odd district and can get away with it, going against Israel even tepidly is a death sentence in American politics. Shit like this is why I almost roll my eyes out of my head when boomers scream about 'election interference' because Russia spent 100k on Facebook ads.
