I met a GG fan in real life recently. Tattoos, enby, piercings everywhere. She was playing their music full volume for a toddler, a song about forklifts that had fuck after every word.

Just kind of makes me sad, its a young Arin, wonder how he would react to it now?. Interesting he thought so little of the Achievement Hunter Minecraft Lets Plays, strange how people shit on them at the time, after the time, current time. Yet still one of the most consistent and cool things they did, I mean it really was just Achievement Hunter City with Geoff and Gavin so 100% vested into it and forcing their friends to come play.

IF I recall correctly, you used to get a payout on youtube per view of a given video, which led to the rise of things like response girls.

When they shifted later to paying you based off of engagement, that's what maimed animation as a career on YT at the time. Your videos for that needed to be at least 10 minutes to make any significant amount of money and well, animation is a time consuming process. You're never gonna be able to consistently pump out a 10 minute animated video enough to make a living.

Thankfully it is a bit easier these days since you have stuff like Patreon/Subscribestar but that change absolutely fucked over every animator that posted on Youtube.

See, the flaw in your argument here is 'solo animator'. By the 'end' of Arin's animation career, he was not a solo animator. If you look at his Starbomb videos or whatever, the stuff that's actually done in his style, he oversaw the direction or whatever and contracted an animation studio (think it was Studio Yotta) to do the actual work. He had a team of people

Under those circumstances he could have easily turned Sequelitis, which was his game criticism series and of which the regular episodes were easily ten minutes or more, into a regular series. It's not like it was difficult animation work to do anyway, it was basically video game footage (most of which he didn't even create himself) and video clips interspersed with what's basically storytime animation. He could have done that regularly and at least kept the goodwill of the fans, if not made some money. Unfortunately for him, two obstacles stood in the way
1) Lazy
2) He went full retard. First specifically with his video on Ocarina and his 'Oh, it's bad actually' level criticism, and secondly more generally when people watched him play video games for a living and realised he was a fraud. He'd call for stuff like intuitive game design over hand-holding and then promptly demonstrate exactly why game developers feel the need to tell you how to do something fifty bajillion times.

Is this really not as well known anymore. I remember seeing this a long time ago. Kind of thought this was the initial reason so many people gave Arin shit over GG to start with. A hypocrite from the very start.

This faggot's only real accomplishment in life was creating the first video essay on vidya, and then instantly proving why no one should ever listen to a video essayist about anything. I still cringe when I hear some retard quote him on Super Castlevania IV needing to ditch the sub weapons and focus more on the acrobatic whip sections, because by God if those weren't the worst part of the game.

To be fair, I've always found the alt weapons completely pointless in Castlevania IV. Unless you're in the NG+, which I can never be bothered to do for Castlevania or any game that doesn't have a save feature

Konami's brilliant solution for this, starting with Rondo of Blood, was to make the whip controls shit again
