Welp... Here it is, the playthrough that nearly got Arin assassinated. As far as I saw, he barely talked about how he trended (he talks about it at about 2:30) or why he did... but he did do that thing internet famous cows do all the time where they go "I hope everyone that hates me watches me and gives me ad revenue". I'm not fucking watching past 8:40 btw, especially after that painfully unfunny joke Arin makes right before then using his fucking Sonic voice :cryblood:

Arin did nothing wrong, he did everything correct.

Though tbf Colors' writing and Grumps' humor is a match made in heaven; I can't tell where the cutscenes end and their commentary begins.

That was one of the great things about their dynamic imo, the fact that they'd actually fight each other on things. I think that's also why people idolize the Jon era, and why the rage compilations get so many views, because it had that kind of high energy that most people don't seem to get nowadays.
The big difference between Jon and Danny, aside from him being a passive bitch, is Dan isn't a gamer. He's a middle aged man who briefly played NES games as a kid then played Morrowind in like 2004 then didn't touch games until GG. He can't challenge Arin on his horrible gaming hot takes because he has none of his own. You don't got any real views from him on games he just does his fake enthusiasm bullshit and reaffirms whatever Arin says. I don't understand what strain of autism allows people to find the fake laughter and Arin's rage interesting or amusing at all. His fake "nice guy" persona was completely ruined when he was outed for the fan fucking drama.

Jon on the other hand was an avid gamer and had clear views on games so you had actual conversations between the two. He had insight and knowledge on games that allowed him to argue against Arin. They interacted like human beings and got into arguments sometimes but were good friends. This made things interesting. That being said I'm glad he left. His projects are getting 3 million views a video and he has his own studio going. The comedy between him and Arin would have grown stale just like it did with Danny.

Pottery.
What, he's only doing one video on it? Not a whole stupid series?
No it's a full series, they've just stopped numbering videos to appeal to the algorithm. ...Never mind how they had a Patreon to try and mitigate that, but c'est la vie.

Does that really work? Because I know for a fact that when I watch a video that's part of a multi-part series I get recommend the following part and then other parts of the same series in the homepage

No it really REALLY doesn't. That's why their numbers have stagnated unless it's an "episodic" game like Wheel of Fortune. And even then that's only an additional 100-200k views at most. Hence, again, why they finally opened up a Patreon after years of railing against the mere notion of having one to convince themselves that the haters are wrong and that this is the "true golden age of Game Grumps."

And for anyone who doubts that, literally Arin's stated reason to do this playthrough was so those same "haters" would hate-watch it to bring in more views.
And it's not working.

Hell, less and less people are watching Mario RPG every day even despite that. It's why they ended up deciding to move down to one video a day, every day now. The main issue isn't the amount of videos a day or even the way the videos are numbered or marketed, although that certainly doesn't help matters: it's content overload, plain and simple. People are experiencing burnout from the show, but rather than improve the quality of the show itself, they just seem intent on chasing trends and reworking everything around it despite that. Because getting rid of the fluff and actually playing games they like is too much work.

I knew it. They don't look at all into how the algorithm works. I noticed they started putting numbers in the thumbnails of the Mario RPG series after 14 parts but not the titles. And the funniest thing about it is that despite this tiny bit of effort it still got less views than the previous part, and they are only on a steady decline. Maybe if they, i dunno, numbered the actual titles and not just the thumbnail it'd be recognised as a series by the algorithm.

Lemme tell you, if Arin is banking on the hate-watchers then he's lost them straight away by straight up telling them he'd get ad-revenue from them. I think this series is gonna backfire and instead of being about the game being glitchy, it'll be about Arin being inept and making up bullshit excuses that the game's designed bad.

To give Dan the slightest bit of 'gamer cred', him playing the Space Quest games solo a few years back was probably some of the last content on the channel that I unironically got some enjoyment out of. Setting all of the weird shit he has done aside, if he had his own channel doing this super chill style of Let's Play with guests that aren't the violent assault of spergery that is Arin, I would probably watch it.

The hilarious thing is that they can't even do what every other channel does to boost views, collab. Everyone from Arin's past either hates him personally with a passion, or finds working with them to be such an exhausting and unprofitable affair that it simply is not worth it. All that is left is uninteresting, personality-void yes men or small channels that are simply not worth collabing with (in Arin's hyper inflated ego-driven mind).

Even when Arin tries to do the logical thing and expand outside into new groups not associated with his personal life or directly under his employ, it ends disastrously. Always leading to Arin getting his shit kicked in because he acts like an aspie and the people Arin collabs with are so huge, and frankly don't care about GG's audience, that they don't put on the kids gloves when they clap back. That or Arin gets butt hurt because he actually has to play with people who *shocker* are actually good at video games and beat him into the dirt consistently.

Arin's ego simply can't handle any of these outside/new creators constantly throwing him back in the mud where he belongs, be it through navigating social dynamics he sucks at or beating his ass at games (which he also sucks at). As Arin has demonstrated time and again, the only thing he cares more about than money is his own fragile ego (and being a lazy fuckwit).

Hey now, you stop. Arin WILL get that RedLetterMedia collaboration he's always wanted. He just needs to try even harder!

I think the theory is they're trying to make each video look like its own standalone thing to try to get randos to click anyway. Most LPs get good views on part 1, half that on part 2, then just sorta balance out to a much lower figure from part 3 on, which makes sense because it's asking for a lot of people's time and no-one's gonna see a video with "Part 23" in the title on the sidebar and check it out randomly.

If you dig a bit deeper I think the lack of longform evergreen content's the problem. For most channels the day-by-day performance is a balance of the most recent video subscribers are watching, and a specific handful of old videos that continue getting views. The problem the GameGrumps channel has is if you sort by most viewed videos the majority of them are animation videos under than 8-minutes long that are unable to run midroll/endroll ads, so they need to rely more on the new video of the day's views to cover for it. Hence the desperate clickbait.

The other thing is that Arin forgot the unspoken rule of show business:

Be kind to the people you meet on the way up because you'll be relying on them on the way down.

Arin really has locked himself out of communities both above and below him by consistently being a twat. People in mainstream entertainment won't care for his schtick anyway because he's the loudmouth guy who says fuck a lot so his only real options are either the odd tumblr cartoon here and there or being brought on board when a director wants an "influencer" to be hip with the kids. People with smaller but more dedicated followings have seen how he treated his old Newgrounds buddies as disposable for the sake of optics.

Every channel's going to hit its peak eventually, and your two options are to either grow old with grace, start treating it like a hobby project again and maybe engage with the now-smaller community a bit more so the content can be tailored specifically to them, possibly crowdfunding if the reduced ad payouts don't keep things moving; or to desperately cling to the numbers you're used to with clickbait, sponsorships etc..

...Putting it like that, GameGrumps is basically the YouTube channel equivalent of a 50-year-old divorcee who smothers herself in makeup and gets fake tits trying to look young again.

LS Mark is back again and this time he was asked on stream what he really thinks of Arin.

Now, what is interesting is who he was joined by. SonnyTM, JohnnyUtah, VeronicaAndJelly. I know the least amount about SonnyTM, but I know he was on a couple Oney Plays episodes. JohnnyUtah is a prominent Newgrounds name, Sleepy Cabin host, and I'm going to assume now ex-friend of Arin. And VeronicaAndJelly is Oney's current girlfriend. They have a couple things to add as well.
Veronica recently said she wasn't seeing anyone anymore and talked about dealing with people that don't accept any love and help. In a subtle manner though. Idk, I'm trying to autistically grab the right pieces from my memory. She smokes like a couple of packs a day though and still looks beautiful BUT I imagine that shit will come tumbling down the line.
Sorry if my formatting is off, first post ever.
