Yeah it's a shame. He was basically the third Grump, then Kevin, I think it was, wasn't bad either. I can't remember much of the SuperMega era but I think that's around the time they stopped being so creative tbh.

Kevin was fucking godawful. You have Barry, who was a self-taught editor with good comedic timing, then you hire on some fucking ching-chong who wants to edit movie trailers. That was the hard pivot back to cut-in/cut-out style editing and when they had to rely solely on Arin being Cory Spazkid without the charm because that transition also happened to coincide with the ragebait Battle Kid series where Arin decided to go on a spree of insane improv stories and thought that the reason people loved it and thought it was funny was because he was getting mad at video game.

Yeah people were pretty hard on Kevin at the time. I remember them playing that diving game and rantgrumps being mad at Kevin for not editing anything in during an "imagine spot" bit by Arin. He started getting a reputation for being lazy after that IIRC.

Yeah he also just straight up made a lot of mistakes for a channel with over a million subscribers at the time. Videos with no audio, audio out of sync, and to top it all off, not editing out the time they doxed the guy that wrote the Sonic Adventure guide. How he didn't get fired sooner is a mystery to me.

See, a big reason this "accusation cycle" from internet people is such an issue, is because there is nothing to learn from. On any side.
As I pointed out, if you know what you’re doing is wrong and you do it anyways, there is no learning involved.
Same goes for the internet. The internet calls itself out all the time, but as a whole, it’s like celebrity gossip: there will always be a customer base. Rubberneckers and gawkers know they’re part of the problem. They do not care. Just blame the publisher, right? The media and the public are yin and yang, perpetually blaming each other in their symbiotic relationship.
Nobody is ever willing to admit they all play a part in an endless cycle that affects people. It’s chain of people who do what they want because it feels good.
That’s why all these “Now what did we learn?” articles and videos are especially condescending.
If there is no motivation to change because playing dirty gets you immediate results, why the hell would you stop? This is why those who got fame and fortune from the internet turn into monsters so quickly. Many of them never had to get a job, or hadn’t worked for very long. They were essentially “nobodies” who were otherwise never going to be famous, or if they were, would work their hands to the bone in the entertainment industry for years before seeing anything for it. Average people who looked at their future and saw about about fifty years of trying to stay afloat.
Internet celebrities skipped all that shit and went right to the benefits of stardom. Anyone with a brain knows that’s like a hit of meth.
This keeps happening because their peers look at all these cases that pan out the same way and see collateral for when they want to hit the red button and blow shit up because they’re in a rough spot. I call it, "using Aesop's fables as a playbook".
It's especially easy to do in groups of people who all act and think in ways they understand are outwardly "controversial", to advertisers and the public. They all have plenty of blackmail on each other. Who chooses to use this information for personal gain will tell you what you need to know about them.
I like to give many of them the benefit of the doubt purely because I can see them lose themselves to money and fame in real time. I play the long game to see what these lapses in judgement amount to.
Nobody ever “learns” to not hit below the belt until they get their dick kicked in.

If someone says “Holy shit, don’t say that”, they mean they don’t want to get in trouble, not because they think they’re above anyone for calling it out.
They also just say things. They are direct. “I don’t want us to get in trouble for saying this.” “I don’t want us to get demonetized.” This is an important distinction. Everyone knows when they say something bad. Their audience knows. But if you jerk people around and act superior, it’s like lying to a child. You lock eyes, both of you telepathically unanimous on what is going on. But you decide to tell a blatant lie. “You didn’t see this, nothing happened.” The child isn’t stupid, nor do they buy it. They just think less of you now.
Oneyplays has nothing to hide because they don’t lie. People find the fact they’re quite open about their use of censorship for the sake of money refreshing. It is. They’re consistent in expressing their views, and this unwavering honesty is rarely seen in internet personalities.
Game Grumps cannot handle this. They cannot simply trim the edges off their dark sense of humor for the sake of making money without being sanctimonious on false pretenses. Calling back to the fact these people are all of similar tastes, you can now see how his behavior creates an endless circle of self-important backstabbers.
Supermega pulled a Game Grumps. Arin threw Jon under the bus this way, and has handed the sword to Matt and Ryan. Notice how all the “edgy” personalities like Jontron or Oneyplays aren’t in hot water nearly as often as their cohorts (despite having plenty of “dirt” )?

This tells you it was a conscious, deliberate move. Every time a channel suddenly announces they’re “denouncing their ways”, notice they felt the need to announce it. To any reasonable person this is odd. They built their audience with this comedy, clearly everyone was okay with it. To SJWs, the siren song of unwarranted apologies and guilt is irresistible.
SuperMega made the formal decision to step into the ring. You decide to make things harder yourself when you willingly immerse your career in a volatile crowd interested in nothing more than to rip each other apart in a game of social justice chicken.
If you’re an edgy person and decide to market yourself as someone who despises everything the real you stands for, you’re building a public persona and career on shaky ground. You will break character eventually, and your legion of hyenas can smell fear.

They were now independent of either and could take their channel in either direction: Align themselves closer with the backstabbing, self-serving Game Grumps and go down that dark path where you lose all your friends. I didn’t mean for this to turn into a whole ass article, but I think it came from my surprise that all this drama exploded at once. I was surprised at first, but then I really thought about it. Anyone could’ve seen it coming from a mile away.

Was watching Jontron's magic short bus episode and god, I have so much respect for Jon. He had all the pressure in the world to sanitize his content and become a boring fuck like Arin but never gave in. To this day people still whine and call him a Nazi for a "debate" he did nearly a decade ago but he isn't afraid to make edgy content. I think if you are popular and likable enough you really can't be cancelled. Jon's likely untouchable within the LA/NYC scene and still pulls in a million views an episode.

Funny you should say that. I was looking for the dramatic "future of Supermega" video and was pleasantly surprised to find a video with a lot of hits denouncing Lex and her cronies. All of the comments were supportive. They were also stating the obvious, but it still restored a grain of hope in me.
It took a million years and a heap of ruined careers, but these leeches got too bold and too greedy and are beginning to get noticed. Too bad it practically had to be spelled out.
