Arin has always been a clout chaser, trying to be speschul.
Exactly. I was a big fan of gamegrumps from Day 1 until 2020 or 19...he always had a try hard attitude or contrarian opinions
He would always do this thing where his cohost would mention a thing and then Arin would be like "oh yeah that's like a xyz". And then the other dude would be like "what do you mean?". And then he had a chance to explain what the xyz thing was to seem smart. It was cringe. I remember him doing it a few times but a specific example was him explaining a zoetrope. Another time when he was explaining how a vinyl record works
And for the contrarian side, we have his opinions on zelda: ocarina of time. For those that don't know, this is rated one of the best games of all time. And even back at the start of gamegrumps he was saying it was a shitty game. It seemed very obvious to most he was just having a negative opinion of it because it is almost universally praised even 30 years later, and he wanted to seem cool
It's a gay way to live life but then he made this long ass video on all the reason it was objectively bad. It was never "I just don't like this" it was centered around thin thin reasons he didn't like the game but framed the arguments around being objective and not his opinion. He also compared it to other zelda games that have the same exact issues, or praised other games doing things he gave ocarina of time shit for
In the end, he made a long video to back up his ocarina of time hatred, and it was laughable because every complaint was Cherry picked, or not even a problem with the game, he just sucks at the game. For example, he complained about having to wait on enemies in combat and thus it wastes your time. If he payed attention to the game he would know it gives you stuff to mitigate said waiting
Almost all of his complaints him blaming the game for him being bad at it and basically not knowing how to play it
