I'm not sure if anyone here noticed this but semi-popular Youtuber GillyTheKid just randomly posted this meme fairly lightly poking fun at Arin and, he urged people not to run with it but, people have just fucking run with it super hard.

I'm anticipating a forced apology after some Game Grumps ninjas attack his home
Can we talk about how a bunch of sonicfags blame Arin for "making" people hate Sonic instead of accepting that Sonic is just a shit franchise?

SuperMarioBro enjoyer btw

I hate to side with autistic Sonic fans but they're super right. Arin would constantly insist that the Sonic series is bad and anyone that enjoyed it is wrong and his fans would eat shit up like mad. He would specifically avoid the good Sonic games and/or only play the worst versions of the good Sonic games to reach that goal, like when he played Sonic Colors but specifically the Switch version after hearing how much of a busted port it is (that ended up not working out anyway because Sega fixed that version and Arin was disappointed that the game was good and thus had nothing to riff on). As ever, it worked because Game Grumps fans will just regurgitate every opinion Arin has and be the very best at hating things without playing them. It didn't help that Arin sucks ass at kid's games.

I'll throw myself under the bus and say I was one of those idiots before I played Sonic Adventure and loved it.

I hate to side with Arin and his autistic fanboys but I think he may be right. Even the best Sonic games are very much style over substance. They look good, they sound good (Sonic games have great music) but they're not particularly well designed.

To say Sonic was never good, I think, is very wrong. I'd say the truth is that Sonic was never up to par. The original sonic was great for example. Visually it was superior to the Mario game that came out the year before, Super Mario World, sure. And to its credit Green Hill Zone was and always will be a blast to rush through, however it's bogged down by things like the second zone forcing you to stop and ride slow moving blocks. Sonic games have high highs and low lows both as a franchise and as individual games, they're fun, they're good, but they're inconsistent and always lagging behind the very plumber they tried to outshine.

As another example consider each one's first 3D games, Super Mario 64 features just Mario platforming through 3D spaces, while Sonic Adventure tries to tell a story and features several characters, who you have to play as each to get the real ending. If they all played like Sonic it wouldn't be so bad but if the knuckles levels weren't bad enough one character is literally just a fishing minigame for the entire playthrough (???)

So, I'd personally say that sonic games were always enjoyable, even good, just subpar in a genre that was for the longest time dominated by Nintendo.

I unironically enjoy the Shadow the Hedgehog game.

Arin is a no-talent, cherry picking faggot that deliberately avoids the better games as another previously stated, but even outside of Sonic - his takes on absolutely everything and anything related to games are absolutely garbage, just like his taste in that fetal alcohol syndrome-sufferer that he thought was marriage material.

For every good Sonic game, there's two that are mediocre at best or just plain awful. It's an absolute roller coaster of a franchise and I couldn't imagine being a dedicated fan to one where the next game is pretty much a coin flip on if it'll be great or basically unplayable.

I tried to replay Sonic Adventure 2 a while back, let's say a year ago or two years ago. I was replaying it because I wanted to 100% the game and get the fully 3D Green Hill Zone you get as reward for 100%ing the game

And...I gave up. I honestly gave up. I got to thinking 'how did this game occupy so much of my time as a kid'? The game, outside of the Sonic and Shadow levels, is shit. Honestly, complete shit. Yet, even in the Sonic and Shadow levels, the game is just broken. The camera is garbage, when you're trying to lock on to enemies it doesn't lock on properly and you end up in the water or some shit, and if you're trying to switch rails while you're rail grinding it really is a coin flip to determine whether you're going to actually switch rails or jump to your death

The original Sonic Adventure isn't much better, and the two games are considered two of the better ones. I'll go as far as to say the 2D Sonic games aren't that much better, either.

Arin's opinion on Ocarina and other games might be straight up hipster garbage but I think Sonic may be one of those instances where a even broken clock is right twice a day

Sonic Adventure 2 was shit but the chao garden was kino. I once saw a video that expressed this very idea, that the truth of SA2 is that the levels are just minigames you play to gather items for the real game, the chao garden.

I'd actually unironically buy a modern day sonic game if they brought it back. Fuck, I'd buy a standalone chao garden game.

While Sonics history can be a bit spotty in terms of quality, saying it was never good is retarded. Sonic 1/2/3/And Knuckles were all awesome games.

I think Arins disdain of Sonic just gets played up because Sonic 06, a genuinely bad game, was basically what put Game Grumps as a channel on the map in the first place. So he chases the other bad Sonic games in an attempt to recreate the magic of that particular LP. Which he never will because Sonic 06 is uniquely bad and Dan isn't funny like Jon was.

Maybe, I really don't remember. Wasn't ProJared exonerated of that or did the pedo accusations stick?
He was innocent of everything but sexting fans via his 18+ Tumblr. Which, that's a little weird but not illegal.

Give us a new fucking Chao Garden, Sega. That was one of the best parts of Sonic Adventure 2.

Good news for you guys. Ages ago I saw a Kickstarter for a game that was a spiritual successor to the Chao garden, and it was successfully funded:
Kickstarters go south all the time, I know. But they seem to be making good progress on it:

Wrong
Sonic 1/2/3 are very well made games. The people who say stuff like this have never played anything other than 3d sonic games.

I think that's debatable. The soundtrack is fantastic, the graphics are good, but you have to admit that it's counter-intuitive design to make a game based on going fast but then making the player have to slowly and carefully navigate platforms and often punishing them for doing the selling point. Sonic should've never been a platformer, imho. Also the bonus levels after the first game can go fuck themselves.

I've played Sonic 1, 2, 3 & Knuckles and CD. They are really not all that. They are style over substance, there are tons of better platformers out there

That’s like saying racetracks would be better without any chicanes or tight corners or maybe any breaking zones at all.

Sonic 1/2 are very well designed. Normally in those sections where moving quickly isn’t as expedient, thinking quickly is. And the quicker you can think or react, the quicker you can move through it anyway.
