Armed Protesters take over Fed owned Building

http://www.cnn.com/2016/01/03/us/oregon-wildlife-refuge-protest/index.html

Yep. Another chapter in the Cliven Bundy saga. Protesters have taken over a Federal building in Oregon, claiming the government is using unfair tactics to try and get them to sell them their farmland. Shit hit the fan when ranchers where arrested for arson. The ranchers claim they where doing it to kill off invasive crops and to prevent wildfires. The protesters think the arrest was the government trying to punish ranchers.

Shit gonna go down folks

That's not where the definition lies for that. The Gitmo prisoners are held indefinatly because the govt classified them on a mix of criminal and POW that affords the protections of neither. A citizen will get his day in court, the Boston Bomber did after all.
Remember Anwar al-Awlaki? He was an American citizen that got droned for being labeled a "terrorist" by bureaucrats. Sure, he was a terrible dude that deserved to die, but as an American who was not posing an immediate threat to the public, he had the right to get arrested and put on trial, and then sentenced to death by a jury of his peers.

Well technically you do under adverse posesion, but that's neither here nor there for this, especially since we're dealing with federal property.

Particularly because you can't adversely possess against the federal government in any event.

Also, if you are well before the adverse possession date, and you just march in with a bunch of guns, announcing you will murder any law enforcement agents who attempt to do their job and remove you, you're going to get shot well before that date expires.

I don't see why the Militia idiots are such a big deal.

Form a solid perimeter out of the range of their .223 clones, don't let them provoke your troops with potshots and their head-up-the-ass rhetoric, and then cut the power & water lines. Don't let anyone in or out. The "siege" will last as long as their MRE's will, then it's three days to death by dehydration or unconditional surrender. I sincerely doubt any of them have any real SRE (survival, Resistance Escape) training.

None of the troops/SWAT hurt, No wildlife killed, rednecks all arrested. Everyone goes home happy

Also, Twitter occasionally nails it. "#YallQaeda"

In other words, we should stop pretending it isn't terrorism when white people do it.

It's a wildlife refuge in the middle of a forest. I don't think it has a water pipeline, it does have electricity though.

Tbh though I don't see how this is terrorism, nothing has been destroyed, there are no hostages and they're not even near a population center. It's just a bunch of angry rednecks having their version of a sit-in because they broke the law and are trying some mental gymnastics to try and get out of going to jail.

It isn't terrorism, but it sure is trespassing -I've got no time for Tenthers -especially since they don't give a shit about most other amendments. They waved bye-bye to due process under the Bush administration with a smile (I guess they imagined the GOP would be in power forever?), and things were going wrong long before that.

Why haven't these dudes been shut down with extreme prejudice yet, but rioters in Ferguson and Baltimore got their shit pushed in? They all agree on one thing -they believe the law oppresses them rather than protects them, and now defy it. What reasons other than skin color would keep the authorities from attacking?

1) Isolation. Assume good faith and think in terms of preventing loss of human life, 1 guy with a molotov cocktail in a crowded neighborhood is far more dangerous than 5 guys with rifles in a wildlife preserve -drastic measures have to be taken to keep a part of the city from being destroyed, but you can sit out the guys in the wilderness. Hell, are there even any birds there right now, or have they all migrated south for the winter? Bundy's sons picked their "battleground" with care. The city-dwelling rioters knew that cops patrolled the streets and felt that was as good a place as any to confront them.

2) Firearms. Bundy in Nevada, his sons in Oregon, and those guys at SxSW all have one thing in common... they had firearms. Not improvised weapons, not mere rage, they had firearms that could reliably disable and kill other armed men. So... if you want to be taken seriously in America, you have to have a gun and be prepared to use it. Fuck that's depressing, but in world history, rarely do words succeed without being backed by force.

I love how these dumbfucks will champion the amendments (the second and tenth in particular), but ignore this little part of the second amendment:
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state...
If you're going to use the amendments as justification for your actions, you at least have to play by the rules set forth by it! If you want to fight the ability for the government to take your land, then you need to fight for regulations (uh-oh, big government!) on the use of eminent domain. Trying to threaten federal agents with firearms won't do anything aside from getting you a free ticket to Leavenworth.

Aside from the National Guard, I've never seen a way to register a militia with the state or the feds. I've always wondered how feasible it is to create a well-regulated militia that falls under the Second Amendment. I guess nowadays, the NG is the only option for militias.

Here's all I've been able to gleam from what I've read from various sources.

The whole reason there's a protest and people are raving mad is the government arrested a man for arson for burning grazing land (that he had rights to) and a bit more (that he did not). He served his time and is currently 73 years old. They want to put him back in prison for a longer period - for the same crime (but changing the name of it, to put him in again). After being released. And are also claiming trespass and that he has no rights to the land. These people aren't threatening anyone with guns at the moment, it's just an armed protest, quite literally, and they have said they have no intention OF violence, but if someone acts against them with violence, they will.
(POV 1 - from some of the people there and from other stories and responses from some of the people in the protest)

White terrorist patriot groups are holding a federal building hostage. They have guns. The FBI has been authorized to handle the situation.

(POV2 - CNN)

WHITE PEOPLE ARE EVIL AND MUSLIMS ARE INNOCENT.

(POV 3 - MSN)

Patriot Group is defending freedom and right wing is awesome, we don't know anything about it.

I've said this before. As soon as the "God, Guns, and Jesus" crowd walks into an airstrike, the sooner we can make real political progress in this country.

It doesn't help matters that sane religious folk - 99% of them are lumped in with these exceptional scum (to go off - subject). They're asking for it, at this point. Whatever Apocalypse they're waiting for... It's never coming.

@Doctor Professor Timon - So... As long as nobody tries to shoot at anyone, we have nothing to worry about and everyone who isn't part of POV1 in your comment is a moron at best, exceptional individual at worst...

Understood!

The Hammonds have already turned themselves back into police custody. But people are still protesting because they think it's wrong to do that to them.

I'm keeping up with the event in real time.

I have friends that are openly hostile to the Bundy Boy's asshole agenda and are still talking about how mandatory minimums are wrong and need to be eliminated.

They had grazing rights, not the right to destroy all that land. They were covering up evidence of poaching. They never even served the full minimum sentance of 5 years, that's why they're gong back. They're criminals and so are these redneck fucks who think they're a militia.

When a sentence is rendered and served, it's done. Legally, I'm not quite sure a court can just pull you back after time was served and demand you serve more.

The judge that gave a sentence below a minimum should have been disciplined instead, although mandatory minimums are ass. They were convicted under a "terrorism" law passed after Timothy McVeigh that stated any fire started on federal lands was "terrorism". The Bundys absolutely have a lot to complain about, legitimately.

They really can't. Double jeopardy. After it's been legally fulfilled and the person's been let out, they've paid their dues according to the legal system. You can't charge them for the same crime under a different name just to try and send them back. Hell, China doesn't even do that.
