Armored Core

Certainly seems like the feeling from the most vet Armored Core players.
idk man, there are others that have the "yeah it has camera lock on and a couple of souls like features, but it is still stays true to the AC series" opinion

Not saying those don't exist, but this channel in particular really went full tailspin on AC6 the more that was revealed. Though AC is a bit of a strange beast when it comes to "this is an AC game", 1 to 3 seem pretty consistent, but 4 went full gundam and 5 was a weird mish mash. So right now the identity is pretty muddled. And well, people my hate it, but From has been doing Souls games for almost 15 years and it would be delusional to not expect them to apply some of the lessons they learned from that.

I'm personally hype as fuck for AC6 and I honestly hated keeping shit in my sights with the non analog control system now that I played AC3 recently, but I'm not surprised there is a bad case of the grumbles from some of the old guard.

Series notorious to have total shit controls on their first games are going to modernize said controls for the next release. You need to be a complete retard terminal autist to think it's a bad thing.

It's like people reminiscing from the times you jumped with the dodge button on Dark Souls.

Story trailer just dropped.

Seems like we’re playing as a soldier uploaded into an AC as a part of some Human Plus program equivalent. That’s probably the justification for the inevitable soulslike death mechanics. The trailer also shows some equipment, including a back mounted shield and the return of the venerable vertical launch missiles. I like the mech designs for VI so far; I was never a big fan of the direction IV took with the NEXTs.

Saw that some of the ACs arms got blown off by certain attacks and I really hope to god they bring back part destruction because it looks sick as hell. Also 6 + 2 + 1 = 9. Food for thought.

Part destruction is one of those staple mecha mechanics that sounds cool on paper, but is often frustrating in practice. It’s fine when you’re controlling a squad, but alone can leave you gimped for the remainder of a mission because your legs or main gun got blown off. Can create some good memories, though, so I’m keen to see it done well.

I did start thinking of ol’ Nine Ball while watching the trailer, what with the AI controlled enemy mechs, and the transhumanist elements reminded me of Project Phantasma. Story is never at the forefront of these games, but we’ve got some interesting subjects to work with here.

Since souls style death mechanics are in, I wonder how they’ll handle corpse retrieval. Maybe instead of losing your collected resources you instead have to pay credits to deploy a new mech, and can’t use the old one until you’ve recovered it. That could be interesting.

They ever going to explain why they are fighting there? I take it that the planet is not literally called "Rubicon" (because that would be too original for today) and is really just a continuation of the storyline on mars?

Press releases have said that we're fighting on Rubicon because of a miracle material called Coral that was found on Rubicon III. The explosion and funny firestorm at the beginning of the first trailer is a result of an out of control chain reaction involving it that consumed the entire system, and now it's popped up on another planet in the Rubicon system, so we're heading over there to see why it's surfaced there, maybe how to stop the cataclysm from happening again (I'm pretty sure there's going to be multiple endings, it's been a thing with AC since Last Raven), and get paid in the process.
No AC2/AA continuation, I'm afraid.

But can I customize my mech's genitalia for full expression of it's gender identity?

Yes, options include Howitzer shells, ballistic missiles, plasma, and various calibers of good ol' led.
No amount of mecha sex jokes can reach the level that is Zone of the Enders and its cockpit location. Even the female mechs have giant throbbing cockpits.

It's a fantastic mech beat-em-up with just the right amount of Kojima insanity. Worth getting.

The human centre of gravity is located in the pelvic region, so there’s actually a practical reason for Jehuty’s metal codpiece. Then on the other end of the spectrum, there’s Brain Powerd and its coochpits. Still, they’re very funny.

I'll admit I preferred the ability to fly to different areas in the first one; but that aside, the second is better in every conceivable way. It did what a sequel should do, and did so amazingly.

I'm not disagreeing with you, because physics and shit should be considered to a degree when it comes to mechanical shit. But when you do shit like add obvious feminine features like breasts to your suits (Neith, Nephtis, Ardjet); it's a little disconcerting to also give them a massive phallus.

I see the incredibly slow trickle is sill going on, though looking at my backlog, even if I push AC6 to the top I don't think I will be "prepared" to get it day 1. Will also be better to give it some days in case the day 1 is a shit show. Elden Ring had some hiccups day one I remember.
