Armored Core

I hope I can get Gen 5 to work on emulator, but I do have discs for back up. I'd just rather not have to pull out and setup my PS3.
EDIT: Oh yes, emulation is not going to happen.
Verdict Day fixed a lot of the damage Vanilla 5 did; and sad to say, you're not missing much. There were interesting parts of 5, where you could use your map to set waypoints and mark things; be a little more tactical and what-not. But, and I'm not lying when I say this; about 60% of the game was tied to their online servers. There was a guild option and a ground war / territory take over aspect, you could even get one human to act as the operator and do call-outs over voice chat while everyone else runs the mission. There were those giant city sized mechs (I forget the name) that would randomly appear, and no, there was no single build powerful enough to take them down; you had to work as a team. These were tied to a sever clock and different ones would show up at different times, so it wasn't something you could just grind. And I don't remember how many, but certain pieces of hidden gear that you can pick up in missions; they wouldn't appear if you're connected to the server. The game had a lot of interesting things to try; but their servers were one of the many games hosted on GameSpot and went down when the company did. You try to start the game up without being online, and you're playing maybe 30% to 40% of it at best... which is like, 11 or 13 missions. Yes, I'm serious, that much of the game was locked behind all the online shit.

Verdict Day went back to the more traditional solo experience, but otherwise is uneventful.

Would be rad if they could do that with 6. I've been missing Chromehounds for so long.

I watch trailer, and all I can think of is all of the hard decisions I'll be making as to what gear to use. Im excited to play

Never played any of the Armored Core games but since Elden Ring was my first Soul's like game that I actually loved I'm willing to give this a shot. What the best way to described the Armored Core gameplay?

Some of the games are slow and ponderous like Mech Warrior. Some of them are fast and anime like Gundam. None of them are "Soulslike" so if that's what you're expecting this probably isn't for you.

Oh, I know. But since From Soft was able to make an amazing game with Elden Ring I assume they can do the same with what ever gene Armored Core is going for. I just don't know what gene it is or how it all plays.

So AC 6 is going to be go fast mecha gundam game and looks fun as hell. There is going to be mech customization (you decide what goes on your robot and how it plays) and you have to take into account ammo costs and things of that nature. The old ACs I would call almost simulator like but this one is definitely shaping up to be an arcade shooter. If you like giant robots in any way it will be a fun romp I'm guessing. Don't expect it to be as long as Elden Ring. Don't expect co op or anything like that. What PVP there is will probably seem like an afterthought.

Joshua O'Brien is highlighted in AC4 as a renown pilot in AC4, so I figured he'd upgrade his White Glint in the sequel.
The final mission in 4 has Joshua getting blackmailed by Omer Science into attacking Anatolia, so the protagonist basically had no choice but to defeat him. I guess you could interpret him taking up the mantle of White Glint as a way of paying respect to Joshua

The simplest way to explain it would be mission based combat.

You're in your home base, nest, whatever it's called; here you can buy parts, customize your mech, read emails, and whatever else the game lets you do. You go to the mission select screen, get your briefing, and go on your mission; shit doesn't always go as planned.

How the game plays depends on what version of the game you're playing, as they all play a little different with how clunky or smooth the game runs; the older games were clunkier. But mainly, you have boosters that can let you fly; different generations handle this differently, AC4 and Another Age gives you infinite hover/flight if the mission requires it, where older games would let you fall to your death/out of bounds. It should also be said that AC4 and Another Age are a lot more fast action paced compared to the other games. Outside of that, things can drastically vary by mission; you can be in narrow tunnels, out in a forest, in a city, high in the sky, navigating a canyon, pulling guard duty, etc. The environment can also sometimes work against you / interfere with your visibility or lock-on. There's also the enemies you encounter, sometimes you don't know, sometimes reinforcements show up, sometimes the reinforcements is another Raven; and how they behave, all depends on how their AC is designed. Which is why you may have seen people talk about the level of customization and builds; you can have a favorite type of build, but sometimes a mission will require something else and you'll have to rebuild your suit.

Just from what I've seen in the trailers; the game definitely looks slower than AC4/AA, about on par with AC3 or AC5. But movement and everything looks a lot smoother too, no jank or clunkiness, or at least a lot less of it.

THE PODS FROM AC3rd GEN ARE BACK THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!
Man, all those new parts looks great. Hopefully I can put together something like a full Getter trio with matching weapons for each of them. Haven't seen a missile weapon that fires one slow fuck-everything nuke yet so I'm still hoping it's there in the game. Also Grind Blade lite my beloved.

Big mechs shoot other big mechs. Don’t go in expecting it to be anything like souls, which is why I’m not a fan of armored core. I’m only interested in AC6 because it looks like a fun action game. If you’re going in for the same reason then you should be fine.

Pretty much. You should also expect a similar level of polish like with what's been coming from them for a decade (unless something has gone horribly long).

Don't think "Souls with robots" think "From Software game with robots".

I've secretly gotten all of my work for the rest of the week done and made sure I don't need to be on any job sites tomorrow and Friday. The plan was to drip feed relevant documents over the next two days to arouse no suspicions while sitting comfy in pj pants and staying up all night, but the game won't be available until after I'd be out of work anyway.

Yeah, I suspected later on in 4A that Joshua is the final boss of AC4, but that just goes into my complaint about the confusing way AC4 gets its story across, beyond Fromsoft's characteristic manner of vague storytelling.

On a related note, I appreciate when pilots have relatively normal names. It's better at creating a recognizable distinction between the names of pilots and their ACs, especially for the ones with little to no story presence.

Online pre-order unlocks at 9PM tomorrow. I may have to wait until Friday; otherwise I'm gonna be up all night, and even if all I have to do is call in to work, I'll probably forget.

Given I'm on Linux (popOS), it'll be interesting to see how it works with proton. If there's any major issues I can always boot into my Windows install.

Last AC game I really played was AC Last Raven. Skipped over the new ones since I didn't have a new gen console.

Since this bitch is coming to PC, my body is ready.

You can fucking drop kick enemy ACs, and that's fucking cool.
