Armored Core

The complaint is more being forced into meta builds instead of being able to experiment and take down bosses non linearly.
Wasn't most of the old AC team working on DaemonxMachina? Or was that just one of the major guys? I know the dude behind Macross wrote the story.

Either way, I think there might be some growing pains is what I'm trying to say. You got vets that remained trying to teach newbs to design AC, but all they know is Dark Souls. You're gonna have to compromise somewhere, unfortunately.

Of course, a day into release Vaati makes a video trying to clear Chapter 1 with no damage. I got a giggle when he mentioned that he's had access to pre-release and feels that the game's difficulty "eases new players into it".

Those of you that are having trouble with Balteus: turns out Assault Armor fucks its shit up. Yeah, you'd have to spend most of the OS chips you get from the arena so you can have two charges, but being aggressive and AA'ing the shield away helps keep its stagger up.

You can't just hide behind your guns and missiles, stay aggressive, stick to it like glue, slash it when you can, and it'll go down. If you're having trouble with the flame attacks, bait them into the air and you can punish while it whiffs. I picked a vertical missile launcher, one of the plasma ones, the burst rifle you get for free, and the starting laser blade alongside Assault Armor and got it.

Slightly late, but I finally did it. I played through every previous Armored Core game. Besides PSP ports, that is. I 100% completed about two third of them too. That took around 250-300 hours in total. Was it worthwhile? Probably not.

Armored Core: Verdict Day

Good, a proper import save feature this time. Especially nice to have since it seems to be much harder to make money and buy more parts in VD.

A couple of big changes stood out to me. First, the map design is much more sparse, going back to wasteland environments like in previous games. I imagine this is mostly to do with the maps in AC5 being expensive to make. This makes for more room to maneuver horizontally, but less structures also means less launch points for airtime. And less ways to divide foes and take cover from enemy fire. This is especially a problem for team AC battles as you will likely be forced to engage both enemy ACs at the same time when they were easy to divide and conquer in AC5. This game is definitely more so meant to be played co-op.

Which brings to the other big change: AI teammates. Definitely a big help to get through all of the missions, and I only used the default tank AI teammate rather than getting into AI builds & upgrades. Somewhat reminiscent of Formula Front. It seems that S-ranking is meant to allow for having an AI teammate too as long as total damage/ammo expenses can be mitigated, which is nice.

Hardcore Mode seems like an interesting way to add longevity to the game for the dedicated. But that's definitely not something I'll bother with. I'm also surprised that the online servers appear to still be on. Not that there are any players, of course.

The story got worse, though. While factional corporations did return, they lack character and are pretty much irrelevant as all attention is put on rogue robot ACs and the enigmatic, villainous Foundation that's pretty much the continuation of AC5's monolithic Corporation. Besides that, all the Ravens mercenaries just boast and fight over who has the biggest warrior peen. I've also already known from a long time ago that the final boss is essentially a dark White Glint, a full-sized Gen 4 NEXT.

Now I can finally get on with AC6.

Balteus was a total cock flattening experience, took probably about 30 tries and a couple different builds but it was very satisfying to finally beat him. Only other boss I've had trouble with is that stupid spider. Anyone having issues with it just needs to equip something with good flight or tetra hover to avoid that brutal melee.

I spent a lot of time fucking with gun/blade builds and plasma builds and that stupid little wave cannon everyone says you're supposed to use because its part description says it's for taking down pulse shields. I ate shit at 20-30% HP every time until tried the following build: double missile launchers (the eight-cell vertical ones), double machine guns, the quickboost-optimized booster, and arms and FCS optimized for close range accuracy. the philosophy is pretty simple. stagger is king on bosses because of their stupid giant HP pools, and because stagger procs interrupt their attack patterns, making the fight more survivable. you need quick, consistent damage to maximize stagger build and capitalize on the damage bonus period. once you get his shield low, reload your MGs to refresh the clip, and pop his shield with a missile volley, then stay on him and don't stop shooting. you need to stay pretty close because the MGs will ricochet otherwise. I ate it a couple of times due to bad dodges on his bazooka and fire attacks, but once I got a good attempt in, he went down pretty easily.

so far this strategy has been effective on all the other bosses up to and including the sea spider. right now I'm using double gatling guns and the shoulder grenade launchers. firing both grenade launchers at once is about 50-60% of the stagger bar alone, so all you have to do is keep the guns on em until the stagger bar gets to about half, and then blast. double gats do stupid amounts of damage especially during stagger. alternatively you can use the grenade launchers and then finish off the stagger bar with the gatling guns while they're reloading, so you can get a volley off during the stun. their burst damage is insane even without the stagger damage bonus. both ways get the job done easily. you can use this build for AC fights too but taking random shots with the launchers is a gamble - the AI likes to ESP quickboost out of the way the second you fire an explosive weapon. the gatling guns stagger ACs pretty easily though, so if you're smart about staying in your most accurate range band, you can proc stagger pretty quickly, then immediately blast with both cannons and watch an ass-puckering chunk fly off the enemy AP bar. note that you need tetra or tank legs for this or the animation lock will fuck you.

I killed the stupid Baletis boss finally. Found that by grinding the arena to get chips you can unlock some moves which bring down his shit easier. It's still bullshit soul mechanics in an AC game and gets in the way of what could have been a great game. The boss which was a giant stompy thing for example was a great level. 1v1 combat with cunts isn't

Okay, beat the first real boss. It was pretty bullshit since it felt like using fighting a super mecha with a regular mecha, ie none of the established rules applied to it since it had infinite ammo, a billion rockets and could spam moves with no recharge (including massive flame swords). But the shield was the worse thing by a mile, especially since the guy auto shields when he reached half health for MUH DARK SOUL SECOND PHASE, so you might as well reset if you didn't get him to 60% at the first chance. Probably could have saved myself time by using actual improved parts rather than the default. The charge blade is shit compared to the usual one since enemies move by the time you finished charging, the bazooka is fun but too slow and easily avoidable and the missiles barely tickle the enemies.

Besides that the game is pretty fun until now and that boss was a wake up call to get the autism going and speccing a mech with actual AP. Just a question though, does the shield reduces from impact damage or regular damage?

In Souls, the whole game is training you for the bullshit bosses. Up until this level everything is fairly easy and you're just having fun blasting away, then BAM! ACborne, don't forget to look at the internet and check out the META build, and 'GIT GUD'.

The pulse gun (the thing that shoots little cyan bubbles) is supposed to rip through the shield. Your mileage may vary, because I never used it. I got him with a linear rifle + starter sword and double shoulder-fired missile launcher build. It seemed to me that the missiles did a lot better at getting his shield down than my rifle did, though the sword was better than either. I did try out a couple of other builds and I do think impact damage does more than kinetics.

Edit: The assault armor ability, if you have it, seriously damages the shield too.

I'm really enjoying 6 so far, but the stagger system feels really out of place with how vital it is combat. I know the AI could always cheat in AC but the c1 boss being able to pop a shield or attack when staggered was just goofy.

So does this game run well on the PS4? because my computer is old and almost certainly can't handle it, so PS4 is the only other option.
I've been playing it on the PS4 (have a PS5, just, haven't unboxed it) and I haven't noticed anything too jarring. It looks nice, it runs smooth (even with bosses shooting at you), and so I imagine the main detrement is load times (unless you have the gear to monitor the framerate).

The first boss is pretty annoying until you can relatively predict it's movements. I will say if the ability to adjust mouse sensitivity is on PC that is OP as fuck in this game.

Got the game today, played through the tutorial, spent about 3-4 tries getting used to aerial combat against the helicopter boss, killed the helicopter boss, did the first two missions after that.

So far I'm enjoying it.

I fucking 100%ed Last Raven and even I find the boss design questionable.
This shit is awful. The fact that I beat it doesn't put it in the same county as excusable.

Excusable has filed a restraining order, and your dumb ass will never see her again.
