You know, I don't think most people would actually care whether or not a person wants to have sex or not. I've seen some Tumblr aces claim that asexuals inspire more revulsion than homosexuals or bisexuals, simultaneously viewing them as emotionless robots and uninhibited, animalistic crazy people. I saw the article about it, but I was unable to recover it to verify how legit this study was. But asexuals aren't being beaten to death just for being asexual, nor are there laws forbidding asexuals to marry. Many could probably just go about their lives doing their own thing.
But they'd much rather make space for themselves
within the LGBT movement.
And by "making space," I mean complaining about hypersexuality in pride parades, "virgin shaming," and adopting the term "queer" for themselves, even if they aren't transgender or in a romantic relationship that would qualify as such.
A movement that is deeply rooted in opposition to police brutality, homophobic violence and the AIDS epidemic, all things most asexuals have not or will not experience because of their sexuality, is being essentially gentrified by people who aren't supposed to feel any sexual attraction at all.
@Ron Paul 2024 showed me an article about asexuals expressing discomfort at pride events being focused too much on sex that I can't find at the moment, but it's like, what the fuck were you expecting? It's fucking gay pride!
There's a similar push against drag queens from the tucutes, who find men in dresses extremely triggering and transphobic. Aces, whether they intend to or not, are playing a part in sanitizing pride and demonizing gay men.
Also have some Tumblirite going to a gay bar and being shocked that they won't concede to her demands to change things just for her.
And this F Plus episode about asexuals featuring a lot of Tumblr users talking about how oppressed they are.
