Assassin's Creed thread

I barely play games at this point, I just collect them. Mirage was like $30 and Valhalla is $12 on sale. I still cringe at having paid full price for AC:NH in comparison. That said Valhalla's city building had me howling for quite a while and Odyssey was genuine enjoyable to 100%. People look at modern AC as "generic barebone RPG slop", yet they're the root of that entire movement.
similar case for me, but I stopped around origins because I still haven't played anything after black flag (after ubisoft's shitty launcher disabled cloud saves and killed my 80% save), figured why waste the money and potentially time? there's plenty of other stuff to play which I enjoy more (lot alone in VR for the "experience" alone). maybe get mirage as a throwback, but literal ubislop valhalla... nah

They gave out the details during a discord Q&A (yes, they are such colossal fags that they do a press release on discord).
reminds me they also killed their forums in favor of discord so their canadian troon jannies could groom easier...

can't wait for discord have a big scandal or other issues and everyone scrambling to go back to their own shit after companies get burned yet again outsourcing everything.

How is AC: Valhalla, honestly? Part of me was honestly thinking about giving the game a genuine shot; I've seen a few videos of it, and it doesn't look like the worst thing I've ever played. That said, I'm not the most familiar with the game; most I've heard on the story side was about Ubi shoving black people everywhere and concerns about Christian bashing, and the gameplay side was apparently a bit weird as well? I dunno, anyone got a good review?

Speaking of AC games, I was also thinking about grabbing AC3 again; tried it before, didn't get too far, but is the game worth grabbing again these days?

Valhalla is an absolutely terrible, dogshit assassination game. However, it is a surprisingly adequate Viking power fantasy and murder simulator.

As to 3, yeah its pretty solid. The HD thing Ubisoft did of it is good.

Power fantasy is more what I'm looking for, yeah; same reason why I picked up Black Flag as a pirate game more than an assassination game. How's the story? I know Reddit Atheists and woketards were creaming their pants over it, but how's is it actually?

Might give AC3 another shot sometime, then! Good to know!

How's the story?

Obnoxiously boring. I could tell you what little plot AC1 had despite not playing it in 15 years, I remember how grating Conner is in AC3, and can at least recall that one French guy with a British accent in Unity that referred to you solely as 'piss pot,' but couldn't spoil a damn thing for you about Valhalla.

Which is retarded if you think about it. Norsemen were as religious as their Christian counterparts, they only had different faith. That is that they believed in settling arguments with violence slightly more often and committed human sacrifice and slavery in greater numbers than others (apart from the Arabs). The weak ass Atheists and woke crybullies would be beaten and fucked until their spirits were broken completely.

Well, you gotta remember; the only religion that the Reddit Atheists and woketards hate is Christianity, since it's the "main source of everything wrong in the world" according to them. Every other religion is "clearly perfect and super tolerant and peaceful"... or was, until the "evil Christians showed up and ruined everything". Since Valhalla has your character raiding Christian monasteries and the main villain is an actual Christian king, apparently the game is a perfect example of how the woke view history; the Christians are evil, while everyone else is always good.

Seriously, these people are completely nuts.

Stumbled across an old Reddit comment from an Assassin's Creed: Unity regarding the backlash/expectation of female characters not featured in co-op.

Now that I think about it, AC: Shadows removing Yasuke from the game is extremely unlikely, technologically impossible since Yasuke is a core "feature" into the product. They could try to downplay that marketing but it's too little too late. In short of scrapping the whole product and starting from scratch, Yasuke is here to stay.

Resident Evil 5 had some niggers hastily reskinned to be white after that "controversy", still having African features and all. They could easily make "Yasuke" look like an actual Asian and re-record some lines, but they won't do that. Last thing a delusional leftist will do is admit defeat, so all they have left is doubling down, them removing all special editions or mentions of post launch DLC confirms that Ubisoft knows this is a tax writeoff at this point.

Did you read the comment I linked?

Do you know how expensive and time consuming it would be to recast, rewrite, rework a MAIN character in a massive game like AC: Shadows? That's not even getting into the marketing costs.

Remember how much it cost Ubisoft to release Skull & Bones because of three design chances over developments? (I'm taking the guy's word for it regarding development costs.)

It's also incredibly slow.
You don't get to play as a full fledged Assassin until you're like halfway through the game. The game has you play as Haytham at a theater, then a whole section on a boat to the new world, and then setting up the Order. Even when you're done playing as Haytham, there's still that whole section when you're playing as a kid and then as a teenager.

I get their whole plan was to get you more interested in the character by showing you their life but man, it was slow as fuck. It didn't help that you were going from playing Ezio for 3 games, one of the most beloved gaming protagonists of his era, to Connor, who is more stoic and introspective. Even going from Haytham, who was inherently charismatic, made it tough. I did like their whole concept of "build up the antagonists of the game by making the player think they're your allies" but the execution was lacking and some of them were given like zero development or time setting up their deaths. I only remember 2 of them and that's because they're constantly appearing throughout the story. Meanwhile I can easily remember a target from AC1 because of the whole cutscene where he had someone's legs broken.

In Valhalla? There really isn't. You just run around killing the English and establishing your own personal settlement, with a detour into Wales for a short time before returning to killing English.

And then you take a trip back to the Viking lands to this weird fucked up Precursor machine with your boss dude and main homie, and then you head back to England to go back to killing the English.

I mean, technically along the way you solve various problems for prominent people, and you get to become more persuasive in dialog choices by beating people in flyting, but there really isn't much of a plot, either in-game or with the whole weird Precursor meta plot Ubisoft is jacking themselves off to.

It wouldn't cost that much to change his face and have some intern voice over his line, no. Maybe some other voice actors would need to come back into the office to do a few retakes, but again, that's not my problem, it's theirs.
This isn't the end of the world, a decent studio that has it's act together could definitely pull this off...then again, a decent studio that knows what it's doing would never find itself in a situation like this, either.

A decent game, but a huge piece of wasted potential imo. Connor is not particularly fleshed out and the ball only starts rolling near the end. I felt that AC3 really needed the Ezio treatment and Connor should've been given more iterational games to explore his character further, but that would've been better served with a more detailed and longer-spanning exploration of the American Revolution. It felt rushed for a setting and the timeskips don't do it much justice.

Also, the combat was ass. Going from Revelations combat to AC3 felt like a dramatic step backwards.

You can dual wield shields and make your own warband in this "phased" instance sailing up the river to assault outposts. It's a great game for being sub $15 on sale, it's just not a stealthy assassination game. I like the game for the sole fact you can immediately block mid-animation, meaning you can build into having an explosive parry or whatever, and suddenly combat just becomes focusing on blocking attacks til everything goes up in flames. Basically just replacing dodge with block. Usually games make blocking and parrying this iframe perfect low reward bullshit.

Thanks for the tips on AC: Valhalla and 3, everyone; I'll keep them in mind. Probably be a bit before I can pick either of them up, local stores don't have either, but I'll give them a try soon enough.

On another note; I've been playing more of Black Flag, and it's been going relatively well so far, but I've been having trouble with the movement. Normally it's not the biggest of issues, but when it comes to making more precise movements it's been a hassle; case in point, shanties. Chased that one in Nassau's swamp for a bit too long, the parkour is wildly inconsistent; oftentimes Edward will just stop and stare when I'm trying to get him to jump, and it's completely random whether he'll hop for the tree branch next to him or go flying off the nearest cliff.

The sailing portion of the game is going pretty well, though; MUCH better than it did last time. I've had a little trouble at points, but I'm making a lot more progress than I originally did; just got the Great Inagua hideout and I've already got a TON of upgrades for the ship. It certainly helps that I'm spending a lot more time on my ship this time; I just sped through the game as fast as possible on the PS3, so slowing down and putting in some extra work is making things significantly better. Also, the upgraded Jackdaw looks REALLY cool.

Aside from upgrading my ship, I'm also going to be trying to fully upgrade the hideout, get some good sword sets and pistols for Edward - currently aiming for the Pistol Swords and Golden Pistols, unless anyone has any suggestions - and complete all of the Fleet missions, which does provide some interesting gear.

EDIT: Also, how's the "Freedom Cry" DLC for Black Flag? I know it's more about slave liberation more than anything else, but is it a good "pirate" DLC? I've seen a bit of gameplay; the machete and blunderbuss look pretty cool, though I'm not sure on the sailing/piracy bits. Looks more like a "slavery bad" message game more than anything else.

The idea in Valhalla is there its just very poorly done. I do love auto sail and auto riding though.

With Shadows a plus is that we have Naoe. The downside is that she comes with jigaboo sword armor mcgee. I'm mote curious as to what historical figures will appear. We can expect Mitsuhide and Hideyoshi, Noh as well. Maybe Oichi? Oh and Ranmaru. God help us if they make him a fucking gross troon.

I mean, when I first played Samurai Warriors I had no idea Ranmaru was supposed to be a dude from how pretty they dressed him up. There's precedent for giving him the femboy treatment, unfortunately.
