Game comes out in 6 months, they don’t show a scrap of gameplay, even in the “extended look” videos, but they’re sure ready for you to pre-order the ultimate edition for $130.

“Live the intertwined stories of Naoe, an adept shinobi Assassin from Iga Province, and Yasuke, the powerful African samurai of historical legend.”

Yeah, no. Yasuke was kind of a circus clown. Oda Nobunaga was what we would now call a westaboo, obsessed with all things not Japanese. There’s a reason why he adopted muskets so quickly. He also liked western style of clothing.

So when a big-ass former slave showed up on his shores, he was delighted. Gave him a sword and essentially made him a retainer. He travelled with Nobunaga a lot but it was more of a “look at this unique kind of person that you won’t find anywhere else in Japan” kind of thing.

(I think. That’s what I was told but feel free to tell me I’m wrong)

I'm certain that Nobunaga was the reason why Japan eventually became obsessed with the west's cultures and such. Now its coming back to bite them.

To be clear, I haven't played an Assassin's Creed game since 3, but there's a small detail about this Yasuke I've noticed from the trailer that I think is getting overshadowed (hurr) by the popular complaints.

Think about third-person melee action games in general where it appears the common practice is apparently smaller than the enemies, even the basic ones. Call it Little Mac Syndrome. The gameplay reason for this is pretty obvious to me, minimizing obstruction of the player character so that opponents are clearly visible and prominent. Emotionally, there's also the David and Goliath sense of awe and empowerment in defeating foes bigger than yourself.

I've had the amusing thought way back at the time that your character in Sekiro must be the shortest man in Japan.

This Yasuke, on the other hand, appears to be a giant compared to all the Asian men he's surrounded by.

Obviously there's intentional contrasting gameplay styles between the big brawling man and the small sneaking woman, but I just found this as a curious design-effecting consequence of having the player character be a foreigner to Japan that nobody else is going to mention.

I’m really wondering where this whole narrative of Yasuke being a samurai came from. Who knows, I might be wrong, but I haven’t found any historical evidence that he even used a sword at all. I’ve never even heard of this guy until today.

It actually has been addressed by the people (rightly) pointing out that a huge black man in an Asian society can’t be a very covert assassin.

He apparently was given a sword and property for his service at Oda Nobunaga’s court. There is written record that he did fight for Nobunaga, even after his death.

They are probably making Yasuke a samurai because he was a property owner. Not to mention that there were loser qualifications for being a samurai at the time since there was a massive civil war.

The Wikipedia page for Yasuke is literally in the middle of an edit war. Theozilla, the retard trying to claim Yasuke was a samurai, is getting called out in his profile talk page.

See it’s times like these I understand why my teachers in school told me to never use Wikipedia as a source.

That doesn't explain Akechi intervening on his execution by calling him an animal and not Japanese, hence Japanese laws of wielding a sword as a retainer not applying to him. It was a death sentence if I'm not mistaken.

All the stories of him wielding weapons comes from Western influences and has largely been considered fiction. Hell, even the story of Akechi intervening is from a Western source. I mean, I'm sure Japanese scholars of today have been pressured to say certain things so they can look good on the global stage, but for the longest time there was fucking nothing from Japanese sources on this guy other than him being a pet that was - if given property - given a dog house to live in. Again, from my understanding.

Wikipedia has openly stated that they prioritise secondary sources over primary.

I think it's important for people to understand that the whole Yasuke thing is Afrocentric revisionism. The primary source of Yasuke is from the Jesuit chronicles and Jesuits are known to just... make shit up. A lot. Likewise, despite supposedly being a retainer for Nobunaga, a poet who would write about anything as evident in his haiku about his favourite sandels breaking, he never once wrote anything about Yasuke. Pretty much the only corroborating account is that one of the Jesuits had a black servant which was presented to Nobunaga's court as a curiosity. There is, of course, no evidence this happened.

Adding to that, the time frame of the twice supposedly meeting and Nobunaga being assassinated by Akechi Mitsuhide was three months. You're telling me a black guy from what is now Morocco, likely a Jesuit slave, who could speak a bunch of broken Portuguese, learned one of the most difficult languages in three months? Okay.

Now, compare that to William Adams and Jan Joosten van Lodensteijn who lives and died in Japan with plenty of honors, to the point that the district around Tokyo Station is named after Joosten's Japanese name in honor of him.

Fucking crazy white men., Why you create a game about killing folk? We niggas just go down to the corner and shoot off a couple. More gratification if you ask me. You and your fancy ideas about getting paid big money for knocking off some nigga, there be niggas everywhere to kill, why you gotta have a game about going to some far off land to kill a brother when the only good reason to go to another land is to fuck the women?

Can't wait until Oda's Nobunigga starts massacring Buddhists at Mt. Hiei who will be retconned into being heckin' problematic Christofascist Templar chuddenheimers, the rampage will start after some sohei starts fleeing the battle while yelling "Nigero!" within Oda Nobunigga's earshot, to which he will respond by saying "wachu say about me you lil' slant eyed bish?" This will justify his roaring rampage.

game is called shadows, the two protagonist are niggers. what they mean by this?
I didn't even watch the shitty trailer, are they really both niggers?
Well I guess at least we know Niggasuke won't be banging the other protag, they'll shoehorn in some BMAF fetishism somewhere though.
