Assassin's Creed thread

Syndicate actually. There was a leak right before Valhalla came out that involved devs complaining about corporate intervening and preventing them from making games with female protagonists.
>Syndicate was suppose to have equal parts of the Frye Twins but corporate told them to focus more on Jacob, so he was the focus of all the promotional material and he's dead center on the boxart while Evie is in the background. The story focuses substantially more on Jacob as well
>Origins was suppose to have Bayek die early on and have you play as his wife, like Haytham/Connor in AC3. Corporate came in and told them to keep Bayek as the protagonist, hence that weird ending with Aya being the one that killed Caesar and starting the Brotherhood
>Odyssey was suppose to only have Kassandra as the only choice, corporate came in and forced them to include a male choice. They just grabbed the villain and swapped the characters. Ubisoft Quebec still SEETHES nonstop about this one and mentions Kassandra being the canon choice every chance they get despite 2/3rd of the playerbase picking Alexios

As the leak didn't include anything about Valhalla since it came out around that time and the "canon" choice is female Eivor and male Odin, I'm willing to bet corporate intervened again and they just asked the Odin VA to do more work since he has the same VA as male Eivor. Syndicate being the initial part of this shitshow leading up to Shadows is fitting since they're both made by Ubisoft Quebec. Yasuke was 100% done out of spite to convince people to prefer their female protagonist and to get back at corporate for forcing a male protagonist.
It just shows how shit their tastes are. Bayek was a great character, and Alexios had a way better performance than Kassandra and makes more sense in-universe. Hell, they're not even content with ancestors since they replaced Desmond with that annoying brown mary sue bitch.

Can't speak as to Eivor because that game seemed like shit, but totally fits the escalating levels of seethe.

Here is your historically accurate game, bro

I'm curious about these singleplayer battlepasses. Are they actually in the game, and what the hell do they offer?
They cut out armor and weapons that were going to be in the game and charge you premium currency to unlock it. This is something I would usually absolutely put on blast, but Ubisoft niggers deserve to be broke and Ubisoft themselves are desperate, so now I want them both broke. Goes to show how down-bad Ubisoft is right now.

Stuttering Craig posted the credits of Assassin's Creed Shadows, and holy shit, the credits are over 2 hours!!
Jesus fucking Christ. Fun fact: Duke Nukem Forever, a 2011 game, has an achievement for watching the game's credits all the way through. Fun fact 2: They last for a little more than 10 mere minutes.

Two fucking hours of credits is what defines visionless, soulless corporate slop. Ironically, with so many people involved, this is a game BY no one, and FOR no one.

One million players surpassed.

Yeah that's complete bullshit, I don't care what metrics they're trying to pull out of their ass because that figure makes no sense, Steam is the biggest gaming platform and if the game was truly successful the player charts numbers would reflect that but they do not, there aren't magically 960k extra people playing this pile of shit on consoles. Same thing happened with Troonguard where they initially tried to pretend like it was a hit and we all know how that turned out, this game doesn't even look like its going to reach Troonguard's numbers:

This is what an actually successful AAA game looks like:

This intro is is such slop already, watching Synth play it. How is some negro slave speaking fluent Japanese anyways before he becomes part of the Nobunaga's court, is this even historically accurate or even more propaganda?

As someone who has only put in time on Black Flag, are the 1st two games worth a lark today?
Honestly yes I’d say they are worth a look, though AC1 is a tough playthrough these days. So I’d say give them a shot but don’t be afraid to just skip over AC1 if it starts to bore you and just move on to AC2 and if you enjoy it, Brotherhood is a fun time too.

I usually come in these threads (I did it with veilguard and KCD2) to drop some speculation or wisdom on whether a game is successful. So I'll butt in here and provide my unsolicited take.

Originally I believed the game wouldn't sell 'too bad', but I'm not sure now.

There's going to be a lot of cope from the usual suspects who are saying "Theres more console users" or "Theres more people on Ubi+".

The condensed console user base may have 'some' merit, but the Ubi+ PC player base is just not true. The vast majority of people (normies) will buy a game they want on Steam. While there are always other alternatives to steam, they have a fraction of the user base. Usually that fraction would come from another big launcher like Xbox, battle.net, or epic - but I doubt the ubisoft store accounts for much.

Being generous, id say about 20% of the pc player base would play it on the ubisoft store/launcher. Look at Starfield. It's the definition of a gamepass game but still sold gangbusters on Steam.

The thing with AC shadows however, is it has to sell better than "good". The game most likely cost a metric fuckton to make with all the delays and marketing revisions, and its coming after a string of ubisoft flops.

The game can sell 3 mil on the first week and Ubisoft is still fucked.

Question for the thread: do you use Ubi+ or know anyone who does? How often have you seen it come up in discourse? I don't know anyone who uses it and I've never even seen it mentioned in casual on-topic conversation among friends. Ubisoft is like the fucking Nickelback of AAA developers.

Watching the Synth stream right now. Can I just say that I fucking hate the fake Asian proverbs that this game keeps spouting constantly that are supposed to sound deep but are actually just absolute nonsense?

"Man who spend day scratching bum have nought at nightfall but stinky finger."

"The man that holds two fish cannot hold his bladder."

What. Are you fucking serious? Those are on the level of schoolyard racist Confucius puns/jokes.

Wonder how soon people in Japan will take to the streets baying for Ubisoft to be publicly executed.
