I do agree that it is admirable they just made a group effort to make some sort of effort fanfic instead of making dumb petitions. The ending of this series was terrible and I can't blame any fans for trying to make a better fanfic (hell I wish this was more common, imagine a well-written group effort fanfic for ASOIAF), but I can't help but think that the AOT Requiem people are going to go too far in the opposite direction, making Eren into some super-deep edgy Chad character, instead of a traumatized teenager desperately trying to do what he thinks is right. There has to be a middle ground between "pathetic simp who just wanted to fuck his stepsister" and "genocidal maniac who makes cool poses". Either way though, no matter what they do, I don't think it could possibly be worse than what Isayama wrote, so I'm enjoying it so far.
However, I do think they will go in the opposite direction as I have little faith in them based in the first chapter and how they come across as pseudo-intellectuals who sniff their own ass. Doesn't help the people they are catering too are the dumbest/worst part of the Attack on Titan fanbase
