See, I don't even think it goes that far for them. I'm convinced at least half of these idiots are just pissed that their husbando got utterly BTFO. I've seen this exact same song, and dance before. It happens all the time in the Final Fantasy fandom. Hell, I'm pretty sure its got the most infamous case of it happening.

This isn't about patriotism, or whatever. That might be the case for some of them, but I highly doubt it is for most of them. This isn't irl politics. This is about a bunch of rabid fanboys and fangirls being utterly livid that their pretty boy, edgelord husbando got his ass handed to him on a silver platter, and then some.

I only bring about the patriotism part due to the AnR ending, emphasizing their hate for the alliance based on how they betrayed the island, and how they constantly treat Floch as this heroic patriot who is a good guy. Those factors alone plus some others are partly why I think there are retards who seriously wanted Attack on Titan to have been this story about patriotism. They also take the story very personally as though it actually happened and a "based patriot" lost to a bunch of terrible traitors especially Mikasa who they act mentally retarded about (even drawing porn of her being raped by titans and other creatures).

Of course there is also another good portion of them mad that Eren didn't get his trophy wife and child where they unironically believe Eren having a child offscreen will deepen his character motivation. You could very well be right as Erenfags come in different shapes in forms from the Unironic Yaegerists, EH shippers, and pretty much people who wanted to see him win that didn't fit those categories.

Okay so unpopular opinion I know but I kind of enjoyed myself I think. It’s certainly different and interesting. It has a lot of neat ideas and concepts though the execution leaves a lot to be desired. All in all despite its failure I feel that I’ve come away from this experience having learned a lot and brimming with fresh new ideas and a renewed passion for story telling. I personally think everyone is overreacting a bit.

Edit: I mean honestly if you want to be mad about something be mad about the character art being so boring and trash for such a kooky story. That’s the biggest sin. The characters that aren’t Titans all look like mutants.

I mean I found the story to be really great until the Ocean since it was an engaging and thrilling story that was fun where Isayama actually felt like he knew what he was doing.

After the ocean, the writing for the story got exceptionally weaker with the plot bending itself backwards for various characters to make stupid decisions for the sake of the plot and the worldbuilding is honest to god garbage. There were some highlights (Pretty much the Marley Arc was great, and there were some good characters) but overall it is a much weaker experience compared to the first 90 chapters.

The thing is though, this wouldn’t actually be that interesting. Attack on Titan is like the epitome of “decent ideas, terrible execution”. Rewriting the whole series would still take you through mostly the same plot, just with better setup and foreshadowing of character motivations and plot points.

Like, my suggestion is still that we go with the “Eren is a violent psychopath whose tendencies not only go unaddressed but are actively encouraged by his superiors, who believe it makes him a more effective weapon” idea, but this doesn’t actually require any real changes to the plot, just some differences in dialogue and actions that were kinda already there in the background but never properly addressed.

At that point, you’d basically just be doing the job of an editor, and that’s a lot less exciting than coming up with fixes for the plot itself.
