By the by, I'm not spoilering shit. Also the only thing AoT has had going for it was the shipping. It never had anything else because the story was so fucking slow and barely ever moved until right at the end.

Now that the dust has settled and everything has been said and done, what exactly was the point of Mikasa's character in retrospect besides of being a third wheel and a borderline-NPC?
Mikasa's purpose initially was to be the counter-weight to Eren's emotional fire by being colder and more level-headed. She also served as a younger version of Levi and was also a Deus-Ex machina for when the plot needed Eren to live. The sad thing is the potential of the story is there, it is just all squandered almost immediately in the first third.
However, obviously the counter-weight to Eren is lost rather early on, and by the time Zeke kills the entire Scout Squad, literally everyone has plot armor, so after the time skip she has no real purpose in the story and kind of lingers until she kills Eren, only because Levi killed Zeke (who just basically goes 'I'M HERE, KILL ME NOW' and then he just dies). It was a retarded slap fight between the two of them from start to finish.
No, because he did. It's a retcon.
Yes, he did. This was never intended as the ending. Isayama had no idea where to go with the story and when the story just organically grew to Eren winning due to his laziness, he either realized he had to change it or his editors basically wouldn't let him do it because even for the Japanese, having a stand-in Nazi win by genocide is a bad look.
Attack on Titan is the 'Cope, Seethe and Dilate' of fiction, holy shit. This is hysterical.
"YOU AREN'T SMART ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND"
Nigger, the main character sat in a puddle of his own piss and screamed that his entire motivation is that Mikasa wouldn't fuck him. Which was an ending Isayama made up in like 3 days when his editors told him "No, you can't have aryan Jew Hitler destroy the world, I don't care how much money you make, change it you fucking weird autistic fuck." So he just burnt the whole thing down. How people don't see that ending was basically never intended is hysterical to me, because its obvious Isayama just doesn't give a shit and planned nothing, so the only organic thing that made sense was Eren winning and that his plan was nothing more than 'fucking murder everyone'. Because he had nowhere else to go, he had to reverse everything in a fucking 180 degree angle and make the end of AoT a necrophiliac version of the Avengers where Eren is like "Welp, guess I'll just die".
Though my favorite part of the ending has to be Reiner going "NOT ON MY WATCH" and then naked wrestling a worm which is them immediately forgotten about a chapter later.
Is there some rule that every shonen anime has to devolve into shipping autism at the end?
Attack on Titan is particularly bad because of the absolute glacial pace of the plot after the timeskip. There are points where nothing is fucking happening over and over and over and the story is constantly just waiting on Eren to move the fucking plot along. Isayama stretched the ever-living fuck of this thing out for nothing. So there wasn't much to talk about between chapters except for shipping. This is part of the reason why the fanbase is so crazed, they literally hung around for like 5 years to get this ending, so its the gamblers fallacy of fiction. They're in too deep.
The ONLY reason Levi lived is because he was the only thing the series had going for it in the middle chapters with fujos and fangirls obsessing over him. I mean, in the course of this story Levi obviously should die, I mean, Levi serves as a protection mechanism and his death obviously massively increases the stakes when the murder machine is no longer available. But he was simply too popular because Isayama was doing absolutely fucking nothing with anything else all AoT had was shipping. Honestly, I went over to 4chan and reddit during the luls (before like, the very very end) and the chapter was only briefly discussed before it de-evolved into shipping.
And I still find it absolutely fucking hilarious he wrote an incredibly important character, Historia, out of the manga by getting her pregnant by a literal nobody. Its fucking laughable and terrible. If you think this is good writing, you're a fucking retard.
EDIT:
Also the amount of times he just writes a character out to have 'break glass in case of use' is crazy. He does it MULTIPLE times. When he doesn't know what to do, he writes a character out, but they're too important to kill, so he does some bullshit to isolate them. Sometimes they get used (Annie) and sometimes they just never get used (Historia) and would have been better off being killed. He's so transparent in what he's fucking doing.
