Just finished reading the manga, and the afterlife in AoT sucks.

We brought this up earlier in the thread, and dubbed it "Crippled Heaven".

I still don't know if it was actually supposed to be the afterlife, or just Hange having a dying dream, or whatever because both are hilariously equally possible in this series.

I’d like to think it’s a dying dream, if only because I’d like to think my favorite character is in a better place. Also, I think Hanji would be a person to keep the eyepatch because she seems like the kind of chick who’s proud of what she’s been through. Also, eyepatches are pretty badass.

I like to think it's actually heaven because the idea of an afterlife populated by people who are still in the same mutilated, maimed, and crippled state they were in when they died is really funny to me.

It's extremely dark, but it's really funny, and oddly fitting a series like AoT.

There are only 9 more chapters to cover. I can't see how a straight adaptation would warrant splitting up the third part into additional sub-parts.

Does this mean the anime version is going to add more story to try and unfuck what the manga did? Or are they just padding out the finale to milk the franchise for all it's worth?

The latter is most likely. While they might try to fix some of the issues, the crying Eren nendoroid proves that ending is going to be at least roughly the same because it was specifically copyrighted, and trademarked for the anime, and not just the manga.

I think it's a combination of trying to milk it, and there being a shitshow happening behind the scenes at MAPPA. Whatever it is, it's ridiculous, and even if by some miracle they changed the ending, the fact that it took this long to get there makes it still a complete joke.

Could just be that Attack on Titan is a low priority for Mappa, and it’s getting the Valve Development treatment of “yeah if anyone’s free to work on this, that’d be great”. I remember there being something floating around how even the animators were wondering how the hell they were going to be able to animate the ending, which probably doesn’t help.

That or they realize the shows fucked and are only putting out episodes as fast as contractually required.
