Honestly the angriest people got at the ending were the IRL Yaegerists, most people just have a unsurprised disappointment or are neutral. The IRL Yaegerists are having meltdowns and coping hard that it's hilarious.
Yeah, the insane theories they're coming up with are fucking hilarious. Its like, "Isayama's fucking awful. he thinks smart characters can magically talk anyone into anything. He liked marvel, wanted to end the series and pulled an endgame." Now, I could be wrong, but I just think that its done. Eren will die with a monologue, the dead characters who show up will give everyone a thumbs up and disappear and Ymir will be free with all titans gone. Then the last chapter would be some shitty epilogue.

If I were the ultimate asshole, though, I'd have the last chapter be just the rest of the world just genociding the Eldians in the last chapter because they don't really care about ending the Titans, they're still hyper racists. The last panel is some Marylean holding their baby and saying "You are Free" meaning free of the island devils.

What if the final panel is Armin holding up his baby while the flash of a nuke goes off in the background?

Honestly it's hard to tell, it's unknown what the hell is going to happen. The ending is going to be divisive either way because if it's genocide then some people would complain about the Cringevengers being for nothing, Erenfags would bitch at it if the Cringevengers won, and pretentious anime snobs/reviewers would praise or bash the ending. An ending no matter what happens is going to be memorable not for the ending itself but for the journey that led up to it and how big Attack on Titan is. The ending would've been forgettable during the years before Season 2 came out of the anime since Attack on Titan's hype died down between the year after Season 1 of the anime to the year before Season 2 came out.

Either way whatever happens is going to be interesting from the fandom perspective except for the fact that the memes are guaranteed to be hilarious.

Yeah, you are right. But it seems awfully hard to pull something complex in 2 chapters. I just think the way it should end is they kill Eren and are walking towards the Marlyeans in victory and they all just get fucking shot.

Then it turns out its Eren negotiating with Ymir in PATHs, showing her every possible future. That they must move forward by removing the Titans and mistakes of the past. That with the Titans still around, the cycle of hate won't be broken. Eren talks to her about his own hatred, and that his realization that his hatred would keep deestroying the world ovr and over again. Then you do PATHs magic to reverse engineer shit and the story begins where it started, with Eren waking up crying because he defeated the Titans. its the same as To you, 2,000 years from now, but with no walls and a young Eren and a young Mikasa.

I think that would be the only real way to salvage this clusterfuck and explain why Eren went to the extreme and abandoned his friends and emotion, to show Ymir that this wasn't the way. There's no genocide win, there's no cringeavenger win. He has to demonstrate to her in the absolute way that hatred will never work. It will isolate you. it also goes along with the character trait of Eren's will, knowing to save the world he must embroil it in hate and death, even if he doesn't want to truly do it. At the end, its just all reset with no Titans and no hatred.

It fits the themes of the work, it explains some narrative elements and why Eren is so violent to the extreme, why he abandons his friends, why his attitude just changes, why he tells no one of his plans. To demonstrate cruelty and death don't work. Yeah this is obvious, but Ymir is a child who is hurting and doesn't understand, and he's trying to get that across. Historia's pregnancy was just so she didn't turn into a bay machine. But since this ending makes some sort of sense, uses rules within the universe, has context, narratively fits the themes of the story and results in a somewhat satisfying conclusion, Isayama won't use it.

I used to hate the timeloop thing but I think its better than whatever this is. Both a genocide win and a cringeavengers win are fucking idiotic (but hilarious). And yeah, the memes will be fucking amazing.

Honestly that's the only thing I've ever heard that makes the timeloop ending theory bearable because the timeloop theories are usually cringe and is just dark for the sake of being dark for most of them. Last 2 chapters themselves are going to be just wild especially when the full chapter 137 comes out this week which will see what the hell really happened and what the leaks mean with the addional context provided.

I hope it's really bad. Bad enough people have to debate which ended worse, Attack on Titan... or Bleach. At least with Bleach you can see where Kubo wanted it to end, when everyone faded out of view for Ichigo and he was just another human again. Is there any semblance of a planned ending in AOT?

No. Isayama never planned this out from the start. There are countless filler chapters where it is quite evident he is trying to figure out what to do to buy time. Obviously he has some sort of plan now, but whatever it is its probably retarded.

As I said, he probably is the type of writer who focuses more on whatever he likes to do and had some semblance of a plan but changed it due to popularity and pressure (as I said before he honestly feels like Prequel-Era George Lucas in what he's writing). It doesn't help how slow certain arcs get (mainly the last two as everything after the Marley Arc felt slower in comparison) and how he has been retroactively change things using the anime to revise stuff for better or worse which pissed off some manga purists.

It doesn't help Attack on Titan was the first serialized manga Isayama has ever wrote because he wrote one-shots before the Attack on Titan manga was made including a prototype version of Attack on Titan which was his first ever one-shot, so his meandering probably has to do with how personal the series is. Honestly reading about trivia related to him gives some interesting information like how he told people to watch Game of Thrones before the final episode but then in the same month got pissed off at the ending later on, and how many of his favorite films lists include capeshit.

>Eren is sent back to the PATHS
>He looks around and sees Ymir is in a tea party with the pigs.
>Looking like a mind-broken pushover protagonist in a NTR doujin, Eren hangs his head down
>"Of course. This was the answer all along. I was a fool."
>A splash page montage of every highlight of the manga in reverse chronological order ends with Mikasa and/or Armin going into the light while Eren can't follow
>Suddenly Eren is in darkness
>He's hyperaware, but not feels like his head is spinning
>He's a baby, in his mother's womb, just a couple of hours before she goes into labor
>In his mind, he thanks everyone, and wraps his umbilical cord around his neck
>Skip to show the Yaegers distraught, as their baby was stillborn
>Skip a few years
>Nothing changed
>Titans killed everyone since they didn't have a good guy titan to carry them at the start
>The island is nuked, and every character you cared for is dead.

The end.

Is there any semblance of a planned ending in AOT?
Currently, no. There is not. There is speculation that Isayama did want to end this with Eren succeeding in mercilessly genociding everyone, but that executives stepped in and made Isayama change that which why all this current lunacy has been going on, and why Eren's character has been largely absent, and wildly inconsistent.

We do know that AoT originally supposed to end a long time ago with everyone die, and the series ending being similar to The Mist's by Stephen King, but Isayama changed it because he was either forced to, felt bad, or because the series suddenly got so popular. I forget which. It might've been all three.

Tl;dr: Current!AoT, no. Past!AoT, yes.

Past!AOT probably got changed because of its popularity and Isayama feeling bad about his original ending being too depressing. Given he has repeatedly said such in interviews. With Current!AOT either Isayama planned something really autistic or executives forced him to change his ending since despite everything about it, AOT is still a shonen series

Whatever happens, the shitposts are going to be fun to laugh at like this among the other shitposts using AOT scenes

But man thinking about it it's strange how AOT' is being a parallel to Tokyo Ghoul in how it is getting to it's ending with it being rushed and some ass pulls coming out, only differences is AOT had a better anime adaptation and Tokyo Ghoul was more urban fantasy so the world building didn't seem as weird.
How did Tokyo ghouls got fucked over?

How did Tokyo ghouls got fucked over?
With Tokyo Ghouls ending it was really rushed and consequences didn’t matter for certain people but I think someone could explain it better than me. As for its anime, the first season rushes a lot of shit that could’ve been used for like 2 seasons and the original author wrote an anime original route that was garbage which was so bad they had to rush to the original manga ending. Then for the :re adaptation it rushed shit alot.

While I'm not an Eren stanning yaegerist, I'd have preferred the full rumbling ending. You can want that ending without thinking it's moral or anything. Not all series should have an ending where the guys who are morally right win. It would also have fit the earlier themes much better.

At least it would be different from this generic shounen/avengers power of friendship powers assemble.

How did Tokyo ghouls got fucked over?
Massive tl;dr, and I already explained this earlier in the thread, but basically the ending of Tokyo Ghoul left a lot of questioned unanswered, and felt massively out of place, and way, way too happy.

It pretty much went "Hey, you know how all these characters got abused, tortured, cannibalized, and brutalized for this entire series? Well, they're perfectly fine, and have no lasting trauma whatsoever! They're gonna face little to no consequences for the horrible things they've done! Also, the world this series takes place in is still really fucked up and horrifying, even in comparison to other horror manga, but we're not even gonna fucking mention that! Everyone lives happily ever after! The end!"

Well i hope they take inspiration from Evangelion for the ending. Everybody loved that ending...

I didn't even consider this could be a real possibility due to Japanese otakus being what they are:

You know, I hate to say it, and I'd absolutely hate for it to actually happen, but considering how fucking insane Japanese otakus are, and just how many lunatics actually supported Eren's genocide, this could actually fucking happen.

I'm hoping to God it doesn't, though.
