Reddit, 4chan, tumblr, and Twitter all love it and those communities have been reading the manga while waiting for season 4. There will be some hate but it will come in 2-3 forms depending on how it goes either:

With anime airing there is additionally weekly whining about anime not being done by Wit anymore and not having stellar production values (they were with previous studio after first season anyway) and complaining if adaptations skips anything.

I think the strengths of the manga are greatly downplayed when Eren dickriders and sheep in other places keep aimlessly praising the story and going along with the Jaegerist bullshit. It makes it difficult to talk about anti rumbling views on the plot

The manga, as Isayama said, became Eren's story. All the other characters are window dressing for Eren. Which leads to Eren being the only character. Meaning the others are completely inconsequential.

Reddit and Twitter definitely do regular discussion on AoT, but as for the shipping/shitposting stuff, that's honestly common with any fandom. Most discussion on 4chan/Tumblr about any fictional work (whether anime, TV show, or whatnot) tends to focus more on shipping (especially if the cast is large) or memes but will actually get into story discussion once the new content drops. It doesn't help that AoT is a monthly manga so it falls under the shipping and shitposting more than speculating on plot, if AoT were a weekly manga instead then there'd be more plot talk.

The most normies will feel divisive on AoT will likely be the ending which is going to probably be what determines AoT's legacy if Iseyama shits the bed then the ending will be seen as a good series with a bad ending, if the ending is ambigious/"dark"/bittersweet it will be wanked to oblivion at how great it is, and if it's a happy ending then it will get lukewarm reception with many complaints on how it's happy.

Of course that depends on how MAPPA handles things more than Iseyama.

Three episodes in and I finally realize the OP is in English thanks to subtitles. Episode three goes up a bit in art quality for some of the shots, I think its safe to say they won't tank in art quality too badly going forward. We're still mostly on backstory, I'm also starting to wonder how they'll manage to finish it in 13 more episodes given we've mostly gotten new characters and their reasons for fighting without really advancing the plot all that much.

You already have a Japanese/Far East stand-in in Hizuru, and Eldia was seen as a world terror before the 114th king or whatever secluded him and his subjects on ɹɐɔsɐƃɐpɐW. How are you stoke sympathy for the Eldians outside of creating sympathetic Eldian characters that have nothing to do with Eldia formerly being a world terror? And exactly what does Eldia or its subjects inherit from German or Japanese history beyond superficials that lead you to believe that Eldia is meant to invoke proxy sympathy for the Germans and Japanese?

These are critical details-- in real life, there's no real reason for putting Jews in ghettos except for the completely fictional scapegoat narrative blaming a supposed betrayal of Jews for Germany's loss in WWI. In AoT, the Eldians suffer the ripple effect of being descendants of the Marleyans' former oppressors. Their fictional narrative is that the ancestor of the Eldians made a deal with the devil, introducing the threat of the Titans embodied by Eldia itself, who were eventually defeated and cast into Paradis by some guy they made up-- the truth of the matter, however, is that Eldians indeed have the power to turn into Titans whose power was used to oppress the Marleyans, and could be legitimately feared because of that.

What did the Jews have that the Nazis were afraid of? When did the Nazis overthrow the Jews, or when did the king of the Jews relocate his people to an isolated location?

This isn't "the final season", it's the penultimate season, whether they do another cour ("the final season part 2") or a finale movie. "The final season" title is just a marketing gimmick to build up hype.

Anime-only here btw. Not planning on watching yet because I don't feel like being blueballed with a cliffhanger on episode 16 and another year+ long wait for the 2nd cour/movie. Also this way if I find out after the fact it's as bad as you guys say, I can just pretend the season 3 finale with eren on the beach was the actual finale to the series and live a happy life. Not falling for sunk cost on this one.
