So I'm watching another anime about genocide, The Promised Neverland.

And holy shit, is the shit after the escape bad.

You see, there are these kids that grew up in an 'orphanage' that is just a meat farm for humans. They kill and butcher human children to state their desire for human flesh. You see, demons weren't always sentient. They got sentient by eating human brains. So in order to stop endless war, the human and demon halves separated, humans allowing demons to have these farms of humans they get for food.

Now, humans are sentient, but Demons do not give a fuck since they can't resist human flesh. Even though humans are on par with their intelligence, they don't give a fuck. Because if they don't constantly eat human flesh, their minds go back to being bestial.

Now you got this girl, Emma, who is like opposite Eren. She's all bubbly and so fucking naïve it hurts. "There was this human town, with demon babies and demon elderly. They just need butchered human children to survive you know? Even though the only reason they have sentience is because they steal it from humans who they hunt, butcher and kill."

Not only that, but demons who interact with humans don't give a fuck and use them as experimental fodder, torturing children and letting them die. The whole thing is black and white, pretty fucking clear cut to me. Its not like AoT.

1) The demons have stolen sentience. It is not theirs to have.
2) They treat those that have given them sentience like dumb animals, disrespecting this gift.
3) They torture those that give them sentience, to find out how to make them better meat. This is even though they know they are on par in intelligence, thought and pain with them.
4) There is a solution for them to stop eating humans, but the nobility rejected it and murdered the people with the solution. They still eat human brains of children even though they don't need to.
5) The children are saved by a demon who can gift immunity to demons from degenerating and not need to eat human flesh. They just drink her blood, since demons acquire powers through eating. Her companion doesn't need to eat humans because he doesn't degenerate because he has her ability. Yet it is shown the only reason he set the children free and helped them was so they could breed in the wild and he could hunt and eat them later. I guess this is sort of better? But still, it shows that demons, even when free from degeneration and no longer need to eat humans, will still hunt and kill them.

Then you have the sort of Eren character who wants to murder all of them. And, besides the girl's plan to give the magical demon blood that prevents degeneration without humans to all demons, I fully agree with the Eren sort of character to go full genocide. He saw them torture, murder sentient beings. He saw their disregard for life. They kind of try to say 'Humans are just as bad!' But uh, it doesn't work. It feels like the show wants you to root for this naïve idiot and try to show this Eren is 'JUST AS CRUEL AS THE DEMONS"

Nah. They stole sentience from humans, show no reverence or respect to those who gave it to them, actively torture, mutilate and experiment on creatures equal to their intelligence without pity, and basically oppose any sort of attempt to stop them from needing human flesh.

I mean, I know I'm only at the beginning of the story here, but things seem pretty fucking clear cut to me. I know its cutting out a LOT of shit like the Goldy Pond arc (after which the quality plummets) but I mean, JFC, if the demons don't want to overthrow the royalty who is purposefully keeping their society in a feudal hell, then fuck them all.

I also can't stand Emma's naïve nature, when she's seen pickled hands and arms and heads in fucking jars and her only excuse is "THEY HAVE OLD PEOPLE AND KIDS TOO". Fuck off. They know you're sentient and they eat you anyway. And there is no guarantee they'll all agree to not eat humans and stop degrading. I know the anime is skipping a lot (especially a big arc), but some have said it is an improvement and may fix problems of the manga.

Next chapter of the manga is coming out on March 9th, depending on what happens we may get a massive Erenfag meltdown
That soon? I can only get so erect. This is the penultimate chapter, right? It ends in April?

The Promised Neverland plot sounds like yet another false equivalence, broken Aesop story with a NPC for the main character. For me that story premise had been repeatedly done for at least a few decades mostly without the false equivalence, broken Aesops, or NPC protagonists. Thou the ones with starting NPC protagonist(s) and/or supporting NPCs do have their scenes with the NPCs getting hit hard with the reality of the situation, losing their shit and are no longer NPCs.

The Promised Neverland is a metaphor for vegetarianism.
There's even a human adopted from a factory as a pet.
It works well as a metaphor for that by having you understand how animals must feel about humans, but after Goldy Pond, the manga is shit. The first five volumes are fire though. I highly recommend them to anyone. Just stop reading after volume 11 at the latest.

Pretty much if everything aligns correctly, honestly the Erenfag salt is just delicious, like these people really are going hard on copium trying to think of ways Eren will win as though he was a real person denied of victory.

Kinda shit metaphor though. Besides humans not being mentally equivalent to animals, cruelty for animals is not a goal, with humane killing being a big topic (only the conditions can be cruel in case of lack of space). And there is no real alternative to not consume animals unless you want to be dependent on vitamins and likely having fucked over immune system. You can't even release farm animals to the wild without them dying due to not knowing how to act.

The author could've made the demons more morally ambiguous by making them show an outright religious reverence for the humans, with man meat being 'divine gifts' or smth. Have them show treating their sacrifices with the utmost care and respect before painlessly killing them for consumption (Have them pray to human statues too).
I believe this could've been pretty unique and mindfucky without making the demons unambiguously monstrous and giving them more of the above mentioned moral ambiguity

Come to think of it Tales of Symphonia did a similar storyline too but smaller and better. I like how the MC was forced to accept what he and his party gained from the deaths of those people, and how it was necessary to keep those gains for them to continue fighting.

They made it out like they were gonna address a lot of this stuff with the factory farm children but then no they wish the problem away with the fucking dragon balls.

I believe this could've been pretty unique and mindfucky without showing the demons as being completely monstrous and giving them more of the above mentioned moral ambiguity
It felt like something along those lines was being built up with Sonju but it never really goes anywhere. Most conflicts or interesting concepts in that manga were underutilized or given up on entirely. I can't tell you how initially fascinated I was by the world and little details like Sonju and Mujika's comments after the kids leave them.

The big bads could also have been framed as this all-powerful religious authority who run the man farms, and the upper most echelons are secretly hiding this method of keeping demons self-aware W/O resorting to cannibalism because "those sacrifices shall NOT be in vain!!"*. This i think would add some tragedy to the demons too

*the method was discovered very recently when the religion had been entrenched into demon society for centuries, so this would make them more hostile to their practices being rendered obsolete after commiting such heinous acts for so long in order for their civilization to simply exist.

I just don't find anything 'morally ambiguous' about TPN. We can't talk to animals and communicate with them, like demons and humans, so it isn't even remotely equivalent. Even though Demons who don't need to eat humans anymore still want to eat them...its just all stupid and so fucking naïve. Its an awful fucking metaphor. If we could talk to animals I really don't think we'd be eating them. So it doesn't translate.

To me, there's really two options:

1) Kill all the fucking demons. They stole sentience from us, so fuck 'em.
2) Force them to not eat humans by drinking that girl's blood. And any who resist die.

That's really it. There's no third option here. I'm not going to let innocents be meat just because they're fucking tasty. Seriously, go fuck yourself.

I hear you, I genuinely don't understand anyone in this thread trying to argue that there is any moral reason to not just kill all of the demons. Besides the fact that veganism is fucking gay, its a shit metaphor precisely because animals are not sentient creatures with the ability to have higher cognitive thought processes and communicate efficiently and easily with humans.
