Okay, that’s news to me. But if it’s literally called “final season part 1”, then it’s pretty much just confirming a second cour and not a movie.

Pretty much, it would be retarded to call a movie "Final Season Part 2" when that's not really a season. It's like calling a season of a show "X the Movie"

So this is from MAPPA and the sound director, where you can see 'Final Season: Part 1' listed by the keyboard. He tweeted the image out and then deleted it. Unless its a photoshop or a troll.

Netflix Japan also said it was the final season part 1. And I know its easy to fake tweets, but I really do not give enough of a shit to go looking:

I think its honestly going to be a surprise movie or movies. The series is ending, so a good way to bolster that revenue is do movies. I'm sure they'd get millions since as you said the Japs have shit for taste. But I will love the Western salt from that, because waiting for movies to get released in the states takes forever. 'Surprise Moviefilm(s)' makes sense to me. More cash, better animation budget, more revenue for everyone. It also makes more sense because why not announce a second cour when the season was announced? Plenty of popular anime, including AoT, have done this. So why not just say its another cour? Because they want the surprise of a movie drop. That's it really. So that's my guess. If its just another cour, I think they're stupid for hiding it because it'd have to be obvious to anyone you'd need more than 16 episodes to cover the last bit of AoT. I just don't see the point, honestly. Its not really building hype and people would be expecting it. But they wouldn't be expecting a movie.

Anyway, barring a second cour or movie, the AoT anime ends at chapter 116.

There's no way they're going to drop it at that point. The pacing is way too slow for them to do so. And considering Attack on Titan is one of the biggest anime series in recent memory, it would be a crime to end the anime on a cliffhanger.

Never entirely rule out a cliffhanger if the manga or other source material shits itself so hard to where it is preferable instead of the anime reaching that point.

139 the rumbling continues, is successful and EVERYONE named dies. EVERYONE....except Mikasa. She's in the mountain cabin chopping wood next to Eren's desiccated head, talking to it, imagining that he's really there. She's talking to it, and we get exposition about how Paradis is at peace (as much as you can trust a now insane Mikasa). The last shot isn't actually of a baby and Historia, or even anyone's baby....

....its a shot of a delusional, long-haired Mikasa, cradling Eren's head, imagining it was their baby and saying to it: "You're free now."

That's how it could be even worse.

I can't even say whether I thought that was "good" or "bad"-- frankly, my impressions are not dissimilar to one's state of mind after getting bashed in the head with a 2x4.

she is adopted and also I hate that I actually like that last panel-- it's not "metal", and it's not "weird", and it's not "titillating", and it's not even "just desserts". It's like... I wanted that... and I got it in the worst way possible-- and I think that was the point. I wouldn't even say it's like Anno using the narrative as a means to criticize his own audience-- I really think the writing staff decided to fuck with their readers for shits and giggles, and that's wild because this would actually be really sad.

It's... morbidly fascinating, honestly. The more my mind clears, the more I think this chapter was meant as a tragicomedy.
Eren goes "THIS ISN'T EVEN MY FINAL FORM", the hallucigenia randomly decides to Ragako everyone at the fort despite the fact that they blew up the Founder, Falco doesn't get to save Gabi like he was trying to do this entire time, Annie barely gets to reunite with her father and the rest of the Scouts save for the shifters and Ackermans all get Titanized because the hallucegenia decided to be a dick. For all the people who decided to tough it out to see the conclusion of the most presumed ship... you get what you want... in a dream... with a broken Eren-- oh, and you get Mikasa kissing Eren's decapitated head while Ymir Fritz watches in real life.

You know, Ymir's been doing that whole "omnipresence" thing that Rei did at the beginning of NGE and the end of EoE since the Rumbling started.

Given Mikasa's dream, the "see you later, Eren" here, the "see you later, Eren" from chapter 1, the fact that nearly every character of note is dead, and the known last panel of this manga, I have a feeling we're going to get something on that scale.

...I'm not putting much stock in that-- I'm still messed up from reading that chapter 1.5 times.
