Personally I'm always secretly waiting to be surprised, and have Tom or Chris be jolted awake by some post or event and realize how much of their issues are of their own making. A true redemption story. Intellectually I know that that's an impossibility, that if these people were capable of such an epiphany they wouldn't have achieved the online profiles they did. But imagine how magical it would be if Tom finally displayed some sort of pattern recognition or learning in terms of oversharing. It would be like if a Greek tragedy suddenly had a happy ending one time out of a million retellings.

To be fair, what "issues" does Tom really have? The guy's fed, he's got a place to sleep even if it's grimy, he doesn't really have to work; in other places around the world that would be something people would kill for.
He wants to be an entertainer, and in a sense he is an underground entertainer. He puts on little shows for an entire audience of weirdos online, who check back regularly to see what new dramatics he's offering today. Underneath it all he obviously enjoys something about it or he wouldn't keep coming back, because he's been doing it for years.

Self awareness necessarily leads to either change or humbly accepting one's limitations, both can be tough, and Tom's already living far beyond what his station in life would be in any other time or place. When it come to self awareness, people like him and Chris simply have no use for it.

The truth of it is, if his family is any indication, old Thomas doesn't interact with people well or very often. But if he were to keep to himself and try to be stoic and self-reliant for company's sake, he'd probably go insane from the isolation. He says he doesn't want the "harassment" (if you could even call it that, I've known bullies who were meaner than this) but continually invites it as if it defines him to piss people off.


So take it for what it is - He wants attention. What he's not gonna outright state is he wants attention for being this altruistic hippie trans fairy godmother he wants to portray, positive and peaceful vibes man, and down with the government.
