Avowed - Obsidian's new game, like Pillars of Eternity meets Elder Scrolls

I don't really think whether it's innovative or generic will matter so much to how well it does, but I think whether they go the modern RPGlite direction, or the deep RPG direction will have a major impact. Personally I think they should take the leveling system from Skyrim, add a lot more depth to it, and bring back the dialog system from Fallout NV.

I hope it's good, I usually like good games. Obsidian as lost a lot of what made them good however. I expect the world of avowed to be slightly different than most fantasy worlds, but will have some major flaws in gameplay.

VR only works under ideal conditions.

Also good luck trying to take a phone call while playing VR and needing to strip off the VR gear just to answer the call, and then you have to put it all back on and needing to re-calibrate.

Meanwhile normal games just need you to hit a pause button unless they're one of those games that don't allow a true pause.

Deadfire was probably one of my biggest gaming disappointments in recent memory and I thought Outer Worlds was mediocre, so I'm not getting my hopes up again for an Obsidian game. They've lost a lot of the talent that made New Vegas, Mask of the Betrayer, Sith Lords, and Alpha Protocol.
What was so disappointing about deadfire? I haven't played it yet.

All of the content is incredibly shallow and the game as a whole just feels incredibly truncated. The actual gameplay mechanics are really nice -- combat, character building, and itemization are some of their best work. Unfortunately the majority of the quests, stories, and characters are all flat and hollow feeling; there's maybe a handful of quests and characters I thought were well done and memorable. The ending section in particular is probably one of the most disappointing finales I've ever played in a game.

Virgin Pillars vs Chad Divinity: OS

With PF: Kingmaker in the corner beating off.

Well it is set in the same world as Pillars of Eternity so we kind of know what we're in for in the world building front. I guess the questions are when are where is it going to occur within that world.

They decided to include a "reaction" system where every choice you make has effects on your companions' attitudes. So expect a lot of "Aloth didn't like that" and "Pallegina turns her nose". Remember your bro Eder? Now he's become "my wife's son: the character" and Pallegina is still Sawyer's unlikeable bitch of a waifu. And the factions you can work with? All of them are insufferable and everyone treats you like their errand boy. When the most likable character in your game is a manlet furry, you know you've messed up. And while they emphasized "character choices" nothing really matters other than the final scene and any choices you made in the previous game have very little effect on Deadfire. Combat is fine but I never understood Sawyer's need to balance a single-player rpg.

Tl;dr Obsidian sucks at writing and have basically ruined anything remotely interesting in the PoE world. I don't expect much at all from this new game but I look forward to reading the reviews.
