Avowed - Obsidian's new game, like Pillars of Eternity meets Elder Scrolls

Any saved sources that Feargus Urquhart is racist to white people except for himself?
No, just rumors of him making people's lives miserable back over in Interplay days. Maybe Tim Cain or Chris Avellone talked about this.
This is him being shitty overall btw, nothing to do with racism, just toxic work culture.

The document posted earlier does have Avellone mentioning him a lot, though skimming it over makes me think it's mostly financial malfeasance and essentially embezzlement.

Another day another Whistleblower.

Perhaps there's still a lot of people there fed up with faggots the like of Hansen and his ilk who haven't yet bailed the studio.

I honestly don't even want to see Matt Hansen and his cronies get fired or quit, I want them to sink with the ship then laugh as they blame whitey.

Avellone had a interview with someone from rpgcodex and aired out a lot of dirt about the higherups which include Urquhart. Most of it was about his time at Obsidian rather then Black Isle but I'm pretty sure that's the origin of what you where talking about.
Here's a link to a googledoc that has the interview in it.

I really doubt he's like that. Urquhart gave Sawyer the ok to make Pentiment which takes place in medieval Europe and only has white people in it. Doesn't seem like the actions of someone who hates whites.

People really misread the room when every company (including Microsoft) shut down their DEI offices. The DEI agenda didn't stop, the corporations have embraced it from the start, so their dedicated offices serve no purpose anymore. This toxic behavior will continue.

a shorter 20 hour or so game
What the fuck have they been doing for 5 years if this is the best they can manage?

Wait, no, don't answer that, it's a rhetorical question, I know the reason why. They just keep hiring women, fags and minorities that require ten times the numbers, time and effort to accomplish what a single White or East Asian straight man can do in a fraction of the time, and the end result is still dogshit.

It was probably enough to get him to fuck off from the industry entirely
That, and I want to say his accusers owe him something around six figures in dues for their accusations so he probably just lives off of that in a sort of soft retirement.

I don't blame him for wanting to avoid game development entirely, though. The guy only seemed to have negative experiences despite all his time with Obsidian and anything with his name attached is bound to get game journos to run his name through the muck over his accusations, rescinded or not.

The real answer from what I remember reading is that they tried to make something fully open world but with Co-op and couldn't manage it, because Obsidian is fucking incompetent and full of Jeets and women, so they had to scale everything back and make it gayer.

Yea this was scaled way back into a sort of fantasy version of Outer Worlds.

A couple years back they were promoting it as "Obsidian's Skyrim" but I guess their workforce was too Indian and black to even imitate an open world game from 2012.

I very much enjoy the irony of a game studio putting out a game about brain drain and a competency crisis(Outer Worlds), which now not only suffers thru it themselves but are a living joke no different than something you would see in that game, alongside much of the industry.
OW really was ahead of it's time. Avowed will not have such charm, I'm afraid, especially if that Fall of Avalon game will beat it to the punch with a 1.0 update they have upcoming this year.

I forgot the details, but wasn't the competency crisis in Outer Worlds fixed by letting the girl boss(es) take the wheel?
In the tutorial mission yes, but the "villain" of the whole game is a black woman and ultimately trusting the old white dude is the "heros" route.

But outside of the main quest that's mostly it. The Indian guy is also technically the "good guy" too, who you're supposed to help fuck over the black woman.

But if you look at the stories in the computer terminals it's mostly "we need to increase GDP so we put crack in the toothpaste" and other stuff like that.

Oh no, its even worse. That "crack in the toothpaste" thing is when you help a guy recover his experimental appetite suppressant. He starts boasting about how people can work for longer while eating less and when you remind him that there's already food shortages and less eating and more work is going to have nasty consequences he does a double-take in horrified self-realization about how he never actually thought about the food situation. IIRC he actually scraps the whole idea once you do that because he doesn't want those deaths on his conscience.

And then when you show up at the big capital city the resistance member you can talk to the resistance member there about how they got started and she talks about the shredder that the "suggestions box" fed into, and that one day once it broke nobody bothered to fix it, and so the paper just piled up over and over. If that isn't the modern corporate world in a nutshell, what is?

like the stories we say do make it feel like a cool game, but it sucks a lot. a lot of the quests have that whole "it sounds cool as a story" but the execution always sucks, or like the gameplay really makes it seem like there isn't a lot going on, i will say the whole infiltrating the gas that wakes people up from cryo area was very neatly designed especially the part where you have to watch the people die. the murder mystery planet sucked but i did like how the parasite made everyone so happy, it was a really good example of "toxic positivity" ; in a way the whole game feels sort of like Mr.Kick's system shock remake that came out recently, like its a modern version of what was a cult classic 20 years ago. like if Outer Worlds was released by trokia 20 years ago everyone would talk about how amazing it was today. it has the same bad gameplay and people wouldn't have complained about how ugly everyone looked and because people still trusted game journos back then they'd actually love the good parts and forget the rest.

they also do a lot of stereotypical quests too. there's one with the cannibal family and another one with a cannibal factory and another where people win a "prize" to live on another planet when they retire, but the prize is obviously just getting murdered. and that doesn't even get into the fetch quests.

Outer Worlds has a big problem with telling and not showing. The shredder is a good idea for a story but it is delivered to you via an ugly talking head with bad voice acting. It would probably be more effective and drive the point home if you were exploring a building as part of a quest and saw it yourself. You could go to loot the container and as the door swings open you see it, or something.

As it stands while there are some interesting elements to OW's setting of a sci-fi corporate hellscape it's just kind of lame, boring, and at worst feels like Reddit.

That just means they've done away with their scapegoats in a foolish attempt to trick people into thinking the problem was gone. Soon enough, people will see the truth, and these corpos will wish they still had a consultancy group to sacrifice to the gods for their mistakes.

Outer Worlds should have been a lot more dark and gory then the satire about how bleak a corporate dystopia would be might have worked.

Instead everything is really bright and cartoony with Borderlands humor because they wanted the reddit audience.
