Avowed - Obsidian's new game, like Pillars of Eternity meets Elder Scrolls

Haven't read the thread yet, what should I expect?
Lots of text of people posting their opinions on Avowed, and the occasional reaction gif.

From what I've gleaned from the reviews, exploration and (surprisingly) combat are decent but everything else (plot, quests, companions, general writing) ranges from bland to awful.
And it's completely broken. Elon Musk must be seething right now.

Not even 10k niggercattle, but probably later when more people become aware of it. Might give us a good idea of how many people will actually play it.

They got 10,000 people to pay like 20 bucks to play it a few days early. I don't think it'll be much better because the game's price point is outrageous at 70 bucks when in reality its a good 40$ game.

I don't see the problem?

Visuals, gameplay, story, be damned. The audio library they're using is quite nice. That bird in the background is quite serene.

At least the game isn't woke since it's optional and the dialogue is different options of bending over just like KCD 2. As we've recently learned RPGs are all about different choices of cucking out or becoming gay.
The people telling you this are the same people telling you that you don't have to suck the penis in KCD2

Bugged broken and not well optimized, how surprising. My old PC is not going to like it I wager.

I will pirate it in a few months or next year after it is patched well enough, just to see how low they will sink the world of Eora.

X - Nitter for salt mining and slop eating.

As expected it does look likes a Skyrim clone. Repetitive, not exceptional and quite boring (may be less boring than vanilla Skyrim though). How far they have fallen from the excellent fights of PoE1&2.

I am realy too old for this shit.

Haven’t looked into it at all except that I like the psychedelic skeleton art. Does the game lean into that art style?

If it does I hope it doesn’t completely fail. If it doesn’t I hope it crashes and burns catastrophically and obsidian finally goes under.

Unless the player character is a retard who doesn't know shit about the world, the answer would still be "No". I'd like to see an "advanced" lying system though, like in Planescape, where you could make vows honestly and then break them, make false vow (picking the option with Lie in parentheses) fulling intending to break it, make false vow (ditto) and then keep it even though you've lied at the moment of making it, or just make and keep it honestly, all of which would shift your alignment appropriately.

That however requires competent writers, not tumblr freaks that got hired purely for being brown and lgbt.

No, it's significantly worse than vanilla Skyrim. You know what you can do in Skyrim? Kill a lot of NPCs, interact with a crime system, steal things, get sent to jail, be evil.

You can't do any of that in Avowed. NPCs are totally static.

*sigh* So gameplay-wise it is a downgrade from both PoEs AND a downgrade from Skyrim and Oblivion. Fantastic, absolutely fantastic.

No chance I pay for this.

I dont really get that vibe. If anything it reminds me more of modern audience slop like Suicide Squad or Forspoken.
"Here's dozens of meters and a screen covered in numbers and particle effects to make it look like something is happening."
Yeah, I also get that vibe. Skyrim and Oblivion were much more clean in that regard, much more immersive, dry and readable.

Vermintide 2, though not an RPG, is a good exemple for better FPS melee and range combats, UI and readability while still fairly simple to learn.

But given it is supposed to be an aRPG I still think the Skyrim and Oblivion comparison still hold water. Remove the crowed UI, town down the glitter, the smokes and the fucking numbers and you might see a closer resemblance I guess. I do not know what oher first-person aRPG I could use as a point of reference. Monomyth ? And even then I still have to play it.

I saw it posted a while back on the RPGCodex, probably in December last year, but If I recall right some opions in the game should allow you to tone some of it down (should have been the default realy).

From what I've gathered after watching a little bit of gameplay, the game devolves into indecipherable chaos once more than a couple of enemies are on the screen. In the clip posted above, it's really hard to tell what effects are caused by the player versus what the companions are doing. There are I think four enemies and the act of using <cc spell> followed by <nuke spell> isn't screaming tight gameplay. There's a reason the guy didn't post a clip of him using the sword.

You can turn down some of the targeting widgets but the spell effects alone are enough color vomit to make combat an assault on the senses.

Vermintide has to contend with at times hundreds of enemies on screen at once. Enemies and most importantly, ally abilities have to be distinct but also not intrusive to the point of distracting. No one likes conflag staff Siennas and the "neuter ability effects" mod is one of the most popular mods on the workshop. Vermintide's melee combat is imo the pinnacle of first person melee and I wish more games tried to emulate it.
Nah, monomyth is an Ultima Underworld style crawler. I played the demo during nextfest like a year ago and wasn't particularly impressed.
