Avowed - Obsidian's new game, like Pillars of Eternity meets Elder Scrolls

I started a new playthru of New Vegas recently. I can say that the dialogue feels nothing like this, so I can only assume all the good writers left the company a long time ago. I would love to know when exactly this happened, I don't remember dialogue being this bad in Tyranny/Pillars of Eternity 1 but somewhere along the line, by the time of Outer Worlds/Pillars of Eternity 2 things clearly changed for the worse.
What changed is that all the autistic male developers either transitioned or were replaced by troons, blue-haired fat lesbians, and niggers. Now H1Bs do all the technical stuff, and those dysgenic loser mutants write the story and dialogue.

It is their first 'AAA' project at microsoft. They were acquired back in 2018.
It is safe to say this game probably has at least 100M probably way more.
So it would need to sell at least 1,5 m copies to barely break more than even.
I doesn't even look like it's going to reach more than 50k on steam.

here's to (hopefully:optimistic:) the first of many woke AAA game failures in 2025 :drink:

Game had over six years in the oven and Obsidian has around 300 employees. Let's say half the team has been hard at work for six years and salaries range from $80k to $150k. 100M is a safe bet.
I'm thinking more in the 50-75 range, Outer Worlds had a 30 million dev budget.
Outer Worlds was also developed in significantly less time with less developers and almost entirely without Microsoft backing. There's no reason to believe Avowed was developed on such an anemic budget.

15k is a fucking disaster, even for a budget title.

It depends on what the numbers on the gamepass say. Remember, Microsoft's current strategy is to push people towards it.
So even if the sales are not amazing, if there are enough moves to that, then MS will be content.

Outer worlds was AA though pre microsoft.
Outer worlds had about 80 devs.
Avowed has had about 125

So if we assume OW cost 30mil to make with 80 people.
30mil / 80 is 375k per person yes I know this isn't the best way to do it, but bear with me. This doesn't factor in inflation etc either so we'll just deal with it.
That means AT LOWEST with 125 people at 375k per. That's about $46,875,000
Not perfect but I think that's reasonable. And that would be for a AA game. AAA I'm imagining its bigger. Especially under microsoft.

Consider that this was a new engine too they're using unreal beforehand they were using unity. Which means they spent money on training etc...
I think unreal takes a cut of sales after a million too. Unity I think didn't you buy a license? I don't really know much other than unreal definitely takes a cut.

Bottom line, they have to sell more and are making less.

I got the game, it's adequate so far. I'm a sucker for fantasy fps games and there just aren't many of them worth playing. Im going to get in to what stands out to me, but this game will be an amazing Steam Summer Sale game for many people. I wouldn't say this is a $40 game, it's better than that, but at $70 the crowd it's value matches is smaller, which is likely who is buying the game.
On to what is going on in the game;

Color palette: I'm torn between this being a very beautiful representation of walking through a CRPG, and it being an overly soft colored mess. It might be too colorful and it's washed out with no dark areas which don't do the colors any favors.
Graphics/UE5: not kidding, best running UE5 game I've played. Most are messy looking, this isn't. Most don't exactly run perfectly smooth, this does. Also most any kind of adjustment can be made in the setting/graphics menu. This isn't the case for a lot of games, but here the options are well done.
Combat: it's both better and worse than I was expecting. Its relatively responsive, with block/parry/dodge mechanics. But this isnt skyrim/oblivion. Combat is more action and not a tactical, tactile, visceral oblivion experience. Hitting and getting hit is definitely quantity and not quality. You will essentially just press a lot of buttons instead of making interesting choices with your environment and maneuver around like oblivion/Skyrim play.
Writing/Dialog: it's typical millenial trash. Its also a bit jarring in the setting. There is always a "witty ironic edgelord" choice in the dialog options. Even if you avoid it in your choices, every character is the first 20 minutes of Allistair mixed with Marvel. I can see some fat blue haired retard at home right now picking all the worst dialog choices wondering why people in the real world doesn't think he/she/they are the coolest person.
Game narrative choice/character creator: there is an unavoidable part of character creation where you have to put this hideous coral Reed mask shit on your character and it's referred to as the god touch or something. I honestly don't have an issue with you being marked somehow but the fucking options are horrendous multicolored throwup like you are a member of Davey Jones crew in pirate of the carribean, except Davey Jones is RuPaul. Thankfully you can hide the choice, but every character reacts as if you are a freak of nature anyway. So i made my character black and its an unironic Jim Crow simulator. It's humorous enough that it covers the whole issue for me nicely.

I didnt get the game for the dialog. I got it for the overarching story and the fantasy game/setting. And it's adequate. I dont know if it will be worth multiple playthroughs though. That's OK, sometimes games are a singlefire and are worth it.

How long was Avowed in development for
5 years, but by a much smaller team.
Outer worlds had about 80 devs.
Avowed has had about 125
Outer worlds had 80 devs? Why the fuck is the game smaller and with less features than fucking oblivion or Morrowind?

Fucking New Vegas had half that many people working on it. Meanwhile you could easily 100% TOW in a day. And in the trailer for the next TOW these fucks had the audacity to joke about having stuff that should have been in the first game

I remember Sawyer commenting that the Gamebryo engine was the easiest engine they had worked with in terms of content creation. Which is probably why they were able to pack that game with so much content and create large expansions for it in such a short amount of time.

Yeah, that's why i don't believe the bullcrap some New Vegas faggots always says about: "If Obsidian have more time, New Vegas could be a masterpiece".
Like... bitch, you saw all the DLC's packing up, and they don't care about expanding the Legion more than Ulysses in Lonesome Road. The game is good as is.

I tend to estimate on the higher end always with microsoft. Remember this is the company that spent 500 million for Halo Infinite.

I also find it hilarious how fast the grifters switched to defending a game like its their lifeblood (KCD2) to calling this game out of its issues.

It looks okay but feels dated as fuck. The magic skill tree looks sick. Dialogue is pure ass. No way I stick with this.
