I'm surprised the rootbeer company hasn't steamrolled them with lawyers by now for using the name barq, to avoid any potential association with them. On that note at least they didn't also steal the phrase barqs has bite given the whole furry thing
Explicitly allowing minors on that site is going to fuck them one way or another eventually. Some pedo or pedo group is going to do something creepy and its going to open a whole can of worms for everybody involved in that site, leading to a frantic DFE situation. Mark my words

I'm not going to defend allowing minors on their platform, but I will say that to their credit, Barq seems to at least make an effort (a half-assed effort, but an effort nevertheless) to make it clear when someone is a minor. If you're under 18, they force you to always have your age visible on your profile with no ability to hide it.
This is in the Lumin City OP, but Lumin infamously raged when Barq banned him for lying about his age when he was 17 (and nobody took Lumin's side, lol). So there is at least some attempt to moderate.

Barq is (for all intents and purposes) a more functional clone of the now-defunct Howlr, a different Tinder-like location-based furry dating app. It was well-known among furries at the time for requiring you to be 18+ but having no moderation. Pretty much nothing was removed and some locations were congested to hell with spam accounts and obvious trolls.
I guess my point is that both furry dating apps were shitty with their moderation but in different ways.

I mean, I haven't engaged with furries since FA was dominant and Weasyl was a struggling indie site, but this app from the few times I've checked them seems "okay". Granted I'm not from the US where the people pool is rainbow colored with neon hair and political views. Profiles in general look closer to what I remember; rampant fetishism and OC art, but seeing so many real life pictures alone is astounding. That shit was done the norm around the relatively cookiecutter furries I knew. They were deadly afraid of involving real life cause obviously that'd remind them that they're actually not a subby faggot slut but a straight guy who got attention online for the first time from a 32 year old on TF2.
Minors have always been skating the age of consent cause of how "mature" they feel, but even if you ignore that, it's completely normal for a 10 year age gap between these people casually sharing porn and ERPing. Again, practically the fucking norm these days innit? Pedophilia running rampant in every community online. As well as OCs.. Basically anything that made the fandom interesting the first place has become normal. You see "SFW" vtubers with womb brands retweeting porn.

Fun fact: when the app was still in its early days (early 2021), the original name was FurryApp, or FAPP for short. Because of course it had to be a masturbation joke.

I guess Barq finally realized that openly allowing minors to use their platform was a bad idea because they announced today that you must be 18 to use the app.
