Then Andrew Miller, Joba Chamberlain, and Jamie Moyer. :story:
I want to see Joel Zumaya come back. I quickly looked him up on Wikipedia, and the most current thing about him is that he was working at the San Diego airport as of 2019. What a shame that his career ended at 25 due to injuries. There was so much buzz around him and his fastball when he was coming up and he was really good before his arm gave out; that hype for him was the precursor to the hype for Aroldis Chapman, who obviously has put together a far more accomplished career. I thought he (Zumaya) and Chamberlain were going to be stars for a long long time when they came up in the mid-2000s.

The Cubs and Brewers are going to face off for the NL Central lead. Go Cubs Go!

Baseball is still hard to follow comprehensively even as a fairly dedicated fan.

I had no idea that Cubs were doing so well this year until I started paying attention to the top teams in the MLB when Toronto decided to go all Murderers' Row on the Yankees for the last month. As they do every decade or two.

The Brew Crew don't have shit against my nigga Mike Imanaga II. PCA seems to have a personality which is more than I can say for Mike Trout. Only guy I like in Milwaukee is the Miz (who did not deserve that All-star nod) and he can grow into his own once he gets traded in their inevitable sell-off disguised as 'retooling' so go Cubs!

With Trout being mentioned above it's a good time to bring up that he hit a two-run homer yesterday which notched his 1000th (and 1001st) career RBI; he's also now just three homers away from 400 for his career. Truly a shame about all of the injuries as well as playing his entire career on a garbage team like the Angels.

I was confused when Ryan Braun was on one side of the Brewers' alumni game the other week.

In my AL mind, he's perpetually on the big league team.

There was a mildly interesing r/baseball post the other day noting that Trout is the active career WAR leader at 89.6 despite his injuries & decline. But still only ranks 49th all-time.

Meaning that other than a breaking down Trout, there are no Top 50 all-time players currently in the modern game, with some allowances for finished historical careers vs. ongoing ones.

There didn't seem to be much insightful analysis as to why modern players aren't more competitive compared to their generational peers, other than lots of bleating that the replacement players from the beginning of the last century were amateur laypeople shit.

I was surprised to read as well that Trout was now just crossing the 1k RBI plateau, despite his injuries. Really shows how the RBI as a stat has really changed.

You used to have overrated players like Joe Carter posting 100 RBI seasons year after year while running OBPs under .300.

Of course, the modern game has funky shit happening like batting your best players leadoff or 2-hole for more PAs.

Trout also didn't even have to suffer the indignity of hitting in front of your NL pitcher in the 9-hole all the time like half the league before the universal DH.

The Rangers have been 1 of the best teams in the month of July!!

The Rangers are 15-6 (9-1 in the last 10 games) and are in a dead heat in the WC race.

The Astros have now lost 5 in a row!!!!!

AND

HOLY FUMBLE BATMAN!!!! The Angels outfielder just dropped the 3rd out and the Rangers scored 2 to tie it up!!!!!

This game just ended and it was one of the weirdest games I have ever seen.
  • After the egregious error above, O'hoppe, the Angels, catcher completely loses a foul pop out behind him, letting the inning continue.
  • The Angels then take the lead in the very next inning, and then the Rangers tie it again in the next inning after that.
  • The angels then immediately take the lead again in the very next inning after that.
  • Later on, Adolis Garcia, Texas Rangers Right field completely loses a routine fly out, gifting a double. Based on his body language literally everybody thought the ball was an easy homerun but actually he just had 0 idea where it was. This double would later score on a homerun by the next batter
  • Then, the absolute weirdest thing of all, the Angels challenged a safe call on a close tag for a double, despite the fact that they already lost their fucking challenge by challenging the error above. Literally nobody on the Rangers side said anything about how the Angels got 2 fucking challenges, and they lost on both of them lol.
  • Angels win 6-4, what a retarded game. Joc Pederson may actually be a demon sent to torment me for my sins.
Edit: Now that the dust has settled, it has been determined that the 2nd Challenge wasn't actually a challenge but a Umpire Review which is BULLSHIT. It was a close tag at the bag, why would they ever review that, when it clearly would have a winner and a loser. The entire point of the challenge is for plays like that. The fact that the Angels can just fucking ask for another review after losing their challenge whenever they want is such fucking crap. The call ended up being confirmed, but it is still such horseshit that it was ever reviewed. Why even have challenges to begin with if we can just ask the Umpire to review calls we don't like anyway. Umpire review should almost exclusively be used on Homeruns/foul calls, and maybe interference, not close fucking tags. This game riled me the fuck up. Also, FUCK JOC PEDERSON.
