Not sure how I feel about that. He could just not work like any other person could chose in their occupation.

Harper backing up Snell.

Bauer also taking Snell's side, arguing with retarded fans on twitter who think players should "be heroes" and take whatever the owners give them without complaint.

Kind of crazy how effectively the owners are manipulating the situation. By leaking the terms of the negotiations after already going back on their promise (originally it was going to be just a 50% cut, now they're demanding an extra 30% cut), they've managed to frame it as "greedy millionaire players" and a lot of fans/ESPN are eating it up while ignoring the 30 greedy billionaires on the other side.

Owners made a new proposal for salary cuts. In addition the the original 50% (since it's just half a season), the extra cuts will be done on a sliding scale, with the guys making the most losing the most (up to 80% of their salaries for the top earners) and the guys making the league minimum losing the least (50%, identical to the original deal)

Smart way to divide the union, the lower-level guys won't want to risk their salaries so the superstars get paid and if the superstars complain they'll look like assholes.

The 30% is their ticket share revenue isn't it?
Supposedly. Owners won't release the books to prove it though because they're gearing up for a fight with the union next year when the CBA expires.

While the MLB will play a short season, Corona-chan had forced the minor leagues to cancel their season.

NEW YORK -- Baseball's minor leagues canceled their seasons Tuesday because of the coronavirus pandemic, and the head of their governing body said more than half of the 160 teams are in danger of failing without government assistance or private equity injections.

The National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues, the minor league governing body, made the long-expected announcement.

"We are a fans-in-the-stands business. We don't have national TV revenues," association president Pat O'Conner said during a digital news conference. "There was a conversation at one point: Well, can we play without fans? And that was one of the shortest conversations in the last six months. It just doesn't make any sense."

It's now time for the Cleveland Indians to feel the wrath of cancel culture.

Major League Baseball side the Cleveland Indians are to review their team name in light of recent anti-racism protests.

The Indians replaced their logo two years ago, swapping a cartoon of a Native American named Chief Wahoo with a letter C.

The review was announced hours after NFL side the Washington Redskins said they would look at their name amid outrage following the death of George Floyd in Minnesota.

A statement said: “The recent social unrest in our community and our country has only underscored the need for us to keep improving as an organisation on issues of social justice.

“With that in mind, we are committed to engaging our community and appropriate stakeholders to determine the best path forward with regard to our team name.”

Washington’s “thorough review” follows increasing calls for change, including from one of the team’s main sponsors FedEx.

“In light of recent events around our country and feedback from our community, the Washington Redskins are announcing the team will undergo a thorough review of the team’s name,” the side said in a statement.

“This review formalises the initial discussions the team has been having with the league in recent weeks.”

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement the league is “supportive” of the team’s move.

Here we go again...

Not too surprising, this started a couple years ago when the Indians dropped the racist Chief Wahoo logo and the Braves ditched the tomahawk chop (at least officially). I don't think they'll change the name though. Cleveland is just too irrelevant for anyone to seriously care, it's why they were able to get away with Chief Wahoo for so long in the first place. The Redskins are on the chopping block because
1. The name is pretty racist
2. They're constantly on national tv playing against the Giants and Cowboys, you can't miss them.
The Indians are a mediocre small-market team playing in a weak division of other mediocre small-market teams. In a week everyone will go back to forgetting they ever existed.

On the one hand, they can suck my fuck if they cave in on this.

On the other hand, if they rename the team the Cleveland Spiders, I'd be fully on board, because that would be a bad ass name. Mostly because spiders are gross.
I'd love it if they were called the Spiders, that was the team's name about 100 years ago so they can play up the history/tradition angle that baseball fans are all suckers for.

The Indians have been pretty good for the past few seasons though.
Cleveland's more likely to change their name than the Washington NFL team is. Don't underestimate how stubborn Dan Snyder is.

A weird side effect of this quarantine stuff is that I realized I'd rather see the Yankees play a scrimmage than see the Yankees play a spring training game against some team I don't give a shit about like Baltimore or Arizona. I was more excited to see Gerrit Cole pitch against Giancarlo Stanton than I was about any minor league matchup. If this Covid shit ever ends, I wonder if this will become the new norm for the pros. Spring training/offseason work being done 99% in house with the occasional exhibition game against a local rival.

I'm just amazed that it was the players and not the owners arguing for the shitload of games, the owners wanted all the changes you are going to see this season, personally as someone who isn't collecting SSI i dont care/nor want to sit through 162 games of mostly seeing guys miss balls. 60 games might make it seem a bit more meaningful though. Also to help with social distancing instead of sitting in the dugout the player should sit in the stands, like how the staff would be the laugh track on closed set sitcoms in the 70s/80s. full uniform change for those way off the batting order, too. have them wave around stupid souvenirs have them eating hotdogs thrown from one of the vendors. the whole dumb charade.

This season is going to be entertaining, but not from a baseball perspective really. With only a 60 game season, even a bad team could potentially win their division, wildcard and/or the world series. I think it was last year that even Detroit was in contention at the end of May. Also will be really interesting to see what happens when half of a team ends up getting covid. Even the best team could be down to their reserves for most of their roster. Would be funny if it happened to the Dodgers of all teams

Blue Jays will be playing their "home" games in Pittsburgh this season

Betts signed a new deal with LA. 12 years, $392 million. Fucking insane how much these dudes make, also it's fun watching Boston fans meltdown on twitter over it, they were so sure he was coming back lol.

With the short season the individual stats should be interesting too. The MVP/Cy Young awards will basically just come down to who gets hot for a few weeks.

Apparently Pennsylvania's state government shut that down. So now their options are:
-Omaha (CWS stadium meets MLB regs)
-Buffalo (sort of like home territory but the facilities supposedly suck)
-Scranton (Yankees minor league stadium lol)
No matter what, this is going to be rough year for the Jays. Good thing they had no chance of competing this year anyway.
